There is a new ISP directory http://www.myispfinder.org that breaks down ISP's by city. It doesn't include phone numbers, only cities, so that the data stays up to date...
Some benefits of ISP's registering with http://www.myispfinder.org :
Highly customizable profile page.
Free 120x60 banner on profile page.
Specials / Package Management.
Real-Time Banner updates.
Real-Time City / POP Management.
Customizable Links for all clicks or package clicks.
Traffic Details.
Feedback / Ratings Management (coming soon).
ISP / End User Forums
There are premium banner spots available, and they are charging half price for the first month.
Still not a lot of ISP's on there at the moment, but it's sure to grow VERY quickly...

If the ISPs that register are allowed to be listed for free, I guess it is okay to leave this thread in the "Free services" section.
By the way, the Access4Cheap listing is wrong. A4C started accepting subscriptions on approximately July 15, 2002, and the domain name was registered on July 11, 2002. A4C only offers 2 e-mail accounts per subscription. _________________

Well, the ISP lists ALL of thier own information, so I'm assuming for whatever reason, they made a mistake in entering or updataing their info.
I will let them know... Thanks! |

You can go here: www.findanisp.com
enter your city and state or even a zip code and check the boxes for unsponsored and virtual ISPs and have all the information, including the access numbers and network that they are on in a table form. |

While I will give findandisp credit where credit is due, as they were the first site to "successfully" list ISP's by city, thier information is very shaky at best. I've been watching the site for over a year now, and I've seen area codes get dropped off the site, and many listing errors.
http://www.myispfinder.org Is a NEW site that is attempting to make the directory structure for ISP's more reliable. That is why you will not find phone numbers listed on the myispfinder site. ISP's change their information on a daily basis, and I'm sure when access numbers change, ISP's would not enjoy waiting a week for their profile to be updated by a spider.
http://www.myispfinder.org shows BOTH sponsor and non-sponsor ISP's in the same fasion, as Findanisp IS a for-profit site as well. The main purpose for bringing myispfinder to reality was for an easier to read site that gave information in a NON-cluttered manner. The city listings on Myispfinder are more accurate with less abbreviations, and mispellings, and make the site easier for the ISP who lists there FREE or SPONSOR to keep thier own information up to date.
Again, Myispfinder is new, and it will take a while to get a large volume of ISP's listed there, FREE or otherwise, but it will soon be the ONLY ISP directory to go to besides freedomlist
And how accurate are searches for zip codes anyway? How many ISP's break down their coverage by zip codes? Cant think of any besides like Earthlink. You search by State, Area Code or City. There will soon be search features for different package types, and many more available tools for the end user.
Thanks!
Oops... forgot one thing... the current ISP's listed have been signed up for 3 months prior to the sites launch, so that is why there are only sponsor ISP's at the moment. _________________

All I see there is a major advertising campaign for the ISPs that have paid the bucks to be listed (TOAST.net, Mach10, Access 4 Cheap and Screaming Internet), with a few minor listings for each city. _________________ Freedomlist.com (2000 - 2010)

As with ALL the isp directorys thelist.com findanisp.com isp.com, it is a site that favors paid advertising. Freedomlist being the only one that doesn't.
Findanisp recently removed all ISP's from the site that aren't paying for sponsor spots.
On http://www.myispfinder.org all ISP's that cover a city are listed for that city. but, YES ISP's that are sponsors, do recieve a favored listing at the top of the page.
There are a very limited number of spots for favored ISP's, but there are an UNLIMITED amount of spots for free listings. Again, once there are a lot of ISP's on there, there will be a lot of valuable information that relates to someone searching for an isp, and some of those that may not be covered here under free or cheap isps.
Thanks!!

So far, the site has done quite well, there's just under 50 ISP's registered in just 3 days! _________________

Happy Searching! | I don't think the statement made about http://www.findanisp.com is true. There are A LOT of non-sponsor ISPs listed for my city. It appears to be the same as it has always been. Why do you state that "Findanisp recently removed all ISP's from the site that aren't paying for sponsor spots"? _________________

I stated that all non-sponsors on FindanISP were removed Directly from an email reicieved from the site owner directed to an ISP that I have worked closely with in the past.
After just surfing the site again, I do see a few non-sponsors listed on a second or third page depending on city. Hmmm...
There is new light to the subject though as Findanisp is going to a pay per click system that will affect EVERY ISP on the site. No free listings... get a click... pay for a click.
I apologize for any inaccuracy in that prior post, but it was my understanding from an email directly from the owner/maintainer of the site that all non-sponsors WERE removed. I'm curious now... maybe they were removed, but new ones are allowed to sign up? hmmm... I will have to do a little further investigation into this matter.
I definitely did not mean to post or spread a non-true statement, but it was my understanding that it was true...
Best Regards. _________________

| findanisp.com/sponsor.php wrote: | To keep the page load times reasonable, the total number of ISPs on the initial search page results will be limited to an appropriate number (currently 20).
The new method for sorting ISPs within a city on the first query is sponsors first, and within the sponsors based on the clickthrough rate.
ISPs with low clickthrough rates can no longer be guaranteed they will appear on the first page of results. Refunds are always available for sponsors who decide they would like to terminate their sponsorship of the directory.
At the start of February 2002, each ISP in the directory was allocated 100 "free" clicks. New ISPs are given between 25 and 100 free clicks. When the number of remaining clicks approaches zero, you'll need to purchase clicks to remain in the directory. The price per click is $1.00 ($US). You can buy as few or as many clicks as you like ($50 minimum to open the account). When the remaining clicks reaches zero, the ISP will no longer appear in the online directory, except by using the "search by ISP Name".

This part is even better:
| findanisp.com/sponsor.php wrote: | Other Directories give you only raw click counts - we give you a complete real time database query of each clickthrough, including the IP address, Host name (if in DNS), and the city name the visitor was searching. You won't be getting incentivized traffic from some third party bingo site that requires bored people to click on a banner ad to keep playing bingo... (one of our own actual experiences along the way).

Wow, who knew when I used findanisp, that he turned over my IP address, and DNS name to the ISP that I clicked through to. Seems like the statement is hounding the directories that adhere to their privacy policy.
So my first statement does appear to have been off-based, but after reading the entire sponsor page, these items stuck out at me. Good' ol findanisp is in it for the money just like the rest of us, and non-sponsors are at LEAST second page deep.
Again, I apologize for my mis-statement on the earlier post, and hope this will clear the air a bit. _________________

| Hey Jake. I noticed you registered the domain names www.findanisp.us and www.findanisp.info and have them forwarding to your isp directory at www.myispfinder.com. With FindAnISP, www.findanisp.com, being one of your biggest competitors, don't you think that's a bit unethical? Or sleazy at the least? |

If www.findanisp.com can't be bothered to protect their interests, its their tough luck. This is business, Rich, and business is tough. _________________ Freedomlist.com (2000 - 2010)

Took the words right out of my mouth.
I was however going to offer some other examples like www.eaby.com, a common mis-typing of www.ebay.com, that has nothing but advertising links for ebay which pays commisions to the owner of eaby.com.
And also www.findanisp.us is a GREAT domain name. All in the name, it says Find an ISP in the United States! You can't get better than that. If it weren't for findanisp.com, I would seriously consider moving the full site over to that domain name.
As far as Findanisp.com being my main competetion, I would say for most purposes, for now, it is. However, Myispfinder is more focused on the traffic being sent every day to thelist.com. that is the site that really we are targeting to take traffic from. They get the most traffic of ANY ISP directory, and have one of the least helpful directories.
Somewhere near the first of the year, Myispfinder will be launching the webhosting section of www.myispfinder.org, with a new control panel for ISPs even further allowing them to easily configure their services and coverage areas. I'm also working on integrating Canada, and World wide services for internet access.
While for now, it may seem as we are in direct competition with findanisp.com, this is not the case, and will be more easily seen in the near future with expansions to Myispfinder.com.
And, rich_fall, if you would like to further discuss business ethics and practices, feel free to email me, and we can discuss it privately. _________________
