Individuals who are using free InnoculateIT Person Edition know that this service expires on May 15, 2002. But, they may not know of another free anitvirus program is available now for download- "AVG Antivirus Protection 6" also provides manual update service. Please note: AVG does not provide technical support for this product. Yet, you can download and evaluate AVG from this website:

While, I am not an employee of AVG, it may be helpful for international users to note that AVG also provides a 30 day trial period for them.

I use AVG anti-virus, and I highly recommend them. AVG is good, small and free. There was a trojan on my machine that McAfee left untouched for several months. I tried out AVG, and it caught it immediately.

I also use AVG Anti-Virus. It is a GREAT product. I hope it remains free, along with the free automatic updates! _________________

Where did you hear this? I haven't gotten anything from InnoculateIt PE. _________________ Freedomlist.com (March 1, 2000 - 2013)

| I use AVG anti-virus. Easy to use and update. I run it manually at least once a week and update once a week (automatic). I believe you can program it to do automatic scans and updates. The only problem which may or may not be due to AVG is my computer will not finish defrag, so I have to defrag in safe mode. Not a big problem when I think of the pain my last antivirus program (Dr. Solomon's by McAfee) was like to the point I unistalled it to retain my sanity. |

I have used AVG software for a couple of years on 3 different computers - Old, Older, and Oldest. Have had excellent results. On the oldest I had a problem with defrag also. I set all system programs for no auto tests and updates and exited all startup programs displayed on my toolbar, and then I was able to complete a defrag sucessfully. I don`t understand why, but it worked for me. AVG is one of the best free softare programs available. Thanks for all your replies re AVG antivirus software from grisoft. I am a little afraid to download and use them, because I must remove/disable InoculateIT first, and nowhere on the AVG site do I see instructions for downloading and installing. InoculateIT had these, and I could print and review their instructions before downloading/installing. I would feel much more comfortable having printed instructions for AVG first; I have e-mailed them this question, but received no response. I am also a little afraid of an antivirus program without tech support. What if....??
I would appreciate your opinions. Thank you. |

| Best I can determine the program downloads and installs as any other. I selected the "Buy" option to get the registration number and used it during my install. I downloaded to my desktop, shutdown all other programs (Kill It All) and installed. A newer version of AVG was released yesterday which I download and I was e-mailed the same registration number (AVG-11474519-QJJ). I was using Inoculate and turn it off after my pc boots up. |

I know we're not allowed to mention warez sites but on the filesharing program called Edonkey you can easily get a copy of Norton AntiVirus.

i have reservations about downloading programs from all over .
i am worried about integrity, safety, etc.
avg seems to be easy to install,
a question to experience users of avg, is it normal to see this program suddenly downloading updates , these updates appear almost daily, since i installed avg. and zonealarm does not ask me for permission. i find these a little bit disturbing |

1. Right click the AVG icon (a yellow/black/green/red square) in the system tray, and choose "AVG control center".
2. Click the "Update Manager" tab.
3. UNcheck the "Allow scheduled update" box.
4. Click the "Scheduler" tab.
5. UNcheck the "Enable schedule tests" box.
Just to remember to manually update the DATs once in a while (Update Mangaer tab). I update my DATs about once a month. |

Been using AVG for quite some time and think it is great.
As far as defrag goes, never a problem. I use Enditall from PcMag that shuts down all your running programs so Defrag can run without getting interupted by a program. |

Greetings,
I have WinXP professional. So far it's not compatible. I've installed etrust from Computer Associates (InoculateIT PE). It works pretty well. They have updates all the time. It is not free but, not too expensive ($20).

Deborah | AVG DOES work on my XP Home computer. Sorry to hear it doesn't do so well on XP Professional! _________________
