Trying to decide

I'm trying to decide to either keep my PC that I got, which is a fairly new PC, it's a Gateway Triple core 2.0 GHZ. Or go back to my older PC which is a single core 2.0. The big thing got me on this is the fact the CD button gets stuck a lot on my Gateway (newer PC) and I hate that. I just need something simple in the other room that can play flash videos fairly decent, movies, and email and web surfing. I didn't really want to buy a new Computer.

This is one of those things that you need to decide, but if it is having problems I would return it, or exchange it.

At least get one that is fully functional, if the return or exchange option window is open.

True... The gate way I got back in 2010. I could probably just get a good external DVD/CD drive maybe and just not use the main drive. That would be cheaper.

So the decision you're trying to make is whether you should stop using your newer PC because the CD button gets stuck? What would you do with your newer PC if you go back to using your old PC?

Not to much more, The new one does play movies on the web a lot better. and does load things quicker.

Is it the tray button, not releasing? You weren't specific about which button was sticking.

If so, try using the software method, open my computer, right click the cd icon, click eject. A extra step, not to bothersome.

A paper clip will work to open it as well, it has a release slot, tiny hole on the tray lid. All cd players have this option, in case the button fails (be gentle, doesn't need much force).

If everything else is working, keep using it,

I thought you had just purchased it recently.

The actual button sticks and doesn't allow the cd to open. I can't believe Gateway would make such a cheap button. I might of actually fixed my problem. I had a external dvd drive laying around and I plugged it up. So hopefully this will be my fix.

Here's a small software program, no install needed.
Click the cupholder.exe file and you have two choices: extend or retract. This opens and closes the tray.
Unzip it and simply click the icon. I know it works in XP and 2K because I use it on two computers with those OSes.

Seems you have found a couple of work arounds, electronic opening, instead of manual button.

I use that program, especially on my laptop where it can be tricky to open the tray. On my laptop, it doesn't retract the drive, probably due to the different mechanics. Thanks for letting me know it works in 7.

Thanks for that. Works on my Win7 desktop too, even from within the Zip file! It comes in handy on those smaller towers with the vertical DVD/CD drives.

I actually decided to get a new PC after all. Wal mart had a sale on a PC and Monitor, and I went ahead and got it. I didn't need the monitor but you couldn't beat the price! It actually has a decent button for the DVD drive.
