I use Chrome, Maxthon, IE, and very rarely, Opera. I tried several times, but I never could like Firefox. The Maxthon I use is 1.6.5.18, a very old version, which was just a direct continuation of the last version of MyIE2 with a new name. I haven't been able to learn to like any of the newer Maxthon versions, which were complete re-writes.

I remember Maxthon - it was excellent improvement over IE. Ultimately i settled with firefox for many reason mainly security and extendability with extensions. I also use google chrome, but only when i browse on website that is in some foreign language - so i use firefox "Open With" extension. Chrome native, automatic and painless translation to english language is one feature that none of firefox translation extensions can match.

Maxthon is still my primary browser. Only issue I have is that it crashes way too much (versions 2 & 3 in Windows 7) which is obviously annoying.

You might want to try Palemoon, a simplified version of Firefox. Faster, and as simple as you want it (minimal addons).
BTW, still offers the series 3 version as well as the new version 9.

At one time opera was the best, especially for dialup.
It was the only one to use cache properly(instant back with the back button without contacting the website again)

I have switched most everything over to Chrome. My IE bogs down after opening more than a few tabs. I can go over 20 with Chrome with no problems. I have not used FireFox for a long time so much so it is probably out of date.

There seems to be more addons now for Chrome, but I have resisted because I do not want to slow Chrome down, it is very fast for me on this old computer. I have only added LastPass as a form filler and Page Monitor that checks when a page changes.

I am trying Maxthon 3.3.7.1000

It runs a Chrome like engine which changes to an IE engine if it feels it needs to.

You all so can easily manually change the engine too.

Maxthon 3 can use the same engine as Chrome (Webkit) though it is probably not the latest version. Personally, I have not seen Maxthon change engines by itself. Of course as you mentioned, it is possible to do it manually.

There is a browser called Lunascape which you can set individual webpages to use a different engine (Trident, Webkit, or Gecko). One might say that is a great idea. On the other hand, you computer would need to load 3 engines. Plus, it can get confusing as the context menus differ between engines.

It does change to IE if you go to windows update.
I find Maxthon 3 more stable then Lunascape which seems like a toy.
