I've been a OneSuite satisfied customer for several years. The cost 2.5 cents when calling from home are 2.9 cents when calling from elsewhere through a 1-800 number seemed reasonable.
The one sticking point for many people was the need to put down a minimum of $10, which would expire in 6 months. If you didn't make a lot of phone calls, it would not be worth it. Now OneSuite has changed the policy a bit. If I make a phone call today, my money/minutes will expire 6 months from today's date.
Everytime you make an outbound call, the expiration date is pushed back to 6 months from the date the service is last used. So if you make just one phone call, that is enough to extend the expiration date to 6 more months.

I am a long time onesuite subscriber. I use it mostly for internet access from places that have no local connection numbers for vtisp. Therefore I use it a lot for a couple of weeks then not at all for months. This will allow me to keep my account current without building up minutes that I don't use. Well done, onesuite!

Call Cards minutes purchased at Costco (Verizon) or Sam's Club (At&T) for $20 for 700 minutes NEVER expire until used.

The reason described by plodr is the reason that I quit OneSuite, as mentioned  HERE  . That is good news, though, that OneSuite has now improved their service for low-use customers. It is ALWAYS good to have another low-cost option that makes some sense! OneSuite's longevity is also a very good sign!

I have been VERY happy with Tel3Advantage since quitting OneSuite. I signed up with $25 on 2-15-05 (4 Years Ago!), but got $32.19 credited due to a sign-up bonus. The downside is the $25 minimum recharge. The upside is the 1.9 cents per minute cost AND that the balance never expires as long one call is made per YEAR! I still have a $9.12 balance from my original $25 payment on 2-15-05! It was a little bit of a gamble to pre-pay $25, and I certainly never thought my $25 would last this long. I feared at the beginning that Tel3Advantage would be out of business by now. But they have survived so far, and are still providing great service, so I was lucky, and I am glad!

OG1, there is no Costco anywhere near me and I refuse to "join" Sam's club just to buy a calling card.

Yes, but.....there is a 15% charge to add minutes. Yes, you could just buy a new card, but that's a trip to the store, not to mention that not everyone can pony up the annual charge. (Not to mention location problems, as plodr alluded).
I have found that the Verizon card gives me better connections when used for internet connections, but onesuite is more than adequate for long distance phone calls. (Some phone cards do not allow intrastate calls) And, the minutes do not "expire". Like pay-as-you-go cell phone plans, your account expires, with your minutes going into limbo until you buy more. This change helps to avoid unnecessary buying of minutes.

Boz, I know this is a long shot, but have you ever used Tel3Advantage for internet? In my travels as an entertainer, I go to places that have no vtisp local dialup numbers. I use onesuite and Verizon prepaid cards to connect. Verizon gives me better connections than onesuite, and your description of Tel3Advantage is intriguing.

Well done indeed Onesuite. I didn't know  Onesuite changed their expiration policy  and I checked just to make sure and yes everytime you use your Onesuite your account will be good again for another 6 months and this includes using it to make voip calls or sending a fax. Applause

No, I haven't used Tel3Advantage to connect to the internet. I have only used it for voice calls and faxing.

How's the reliability of sending fax through VoIP? I read its not that reliable because of the way fax machines receive the compressed packets of data or something to that effect. This is the reason I subscribed to online fax service with Onesuite.

Is Tel3Advantage VoIP? My local phone service is provided by a local cable TV company, so I guess that is VoIP, although I use regular phones throughout my house. In any case, I have never had any trouble faxing anything.

So you don't have a PSTN landline?
