Users of this forum - especially those people who have some kind of long distance calling plan or any other way of limiting their call charges - might be interested in a new dialup service currently on trial. It’s based in the UK and can be dialled from most countries including the USA.
It needs no registration, no signup, no software downloads, no credit cards. No personal information is required, etc. Don’t expect 100% reliability, for the time being it’s a free service, but mostly you can get a good 56K connection. Useful for backup, travelling in places where there is no broadband, infrequent connections that don’t warrant a paid subscription, etc etc.
Current problems include sometimes having to wait up to a minute or so to get connected in busy times, getting cut off occasionally (just connect again) and minimal support. But it’s otherwise free & very simple so if you can handle these limitations it could very useful. If you’re looking for a free email address, usenet access or anything like that then this will not be for you, it’s for basic web access only.
Contact me for details, state which country or countries you will be dialling from and allow up to a day or two for me to get back to you. Limited number of free accounts per country, feedback sent direct to me will be very much appreciated.
Any feedback should state country you are dialling from, and details of connection problems and connection speeds. Your email address will be used only to provide you with connection details and will be used for no other purpose. Thanks. |

It would be helpful to post a website that shows access numbers.
If this is true | Quote: | | It needs no registration, no signup, no software downloads, no credit cards. No personal information is required, etc. | Why the mystery?
The old posters here who have been hanging around on this site for the past 9 years are well versed in setting up a DUN and can give any instructions needed to those new to that kind of setup. |

| There isn’t a mystery, access numbers aren’t much use without usernames and passwords and these are provided on request. Later a website will be developed to automate the process if the demand for the service warrants that. This is not a finished product at this stage. |

I believe you will find that people will be interested, if a website is available.
I don't believe that many would be willing to provide a email address or additional information, without knowing the particulars, of the service offered.
When the website is available, feel free to provide the information.
At this point, it has drawn interest, but consider this topic closed. |
