Why not use Windows Mail, it replaced outlook express in the Vista operating system, not live mail. Just go start all programs, windows mail, just a more secure version, which replaced outlook express, works basically the same.
Setup your email accounts, basically the same as outlook express and go. It has junk email filters built-in, etc. |

| Windows Live Mail replaced Windows Mail in MS Vista. Since I have two Hotmail accounts, I can get my Hotmail e-mail (Http) via Windows Live Mail which Windows Mail cannot do. (Outlook Express 6 can use http mail like Windows Live Mail. |

It as well is available for XP SP2 or higher and can replace Outlook Express as well.

I prefer to get my webmail online, and stay with Windows Mail for pop3 accounts, Windows Mail doesn't support http mail like outlook express did. |

Windows Live Mail (formerly named Windows Live Mail Desktop) is an e-mail client from Microsoft's Windows Live set of products. It is intended to be a successor for Outlook Express on Windows XP and Windows Mail on Windows Vista. It contains a superset of Windows Mail's features, and provides integration with Windows Live Hotmail |

Windows Live Mail is developed by the same team that wrote Windows Mail. According to a March 3, 2006 blog post from a Microsoft employee,[2] it would contain all the new features in Windows Mail, and add to that the following:
Similar visual style to the Windows Live theme
Synchronization with Windows Live Contacts
Support for RSS feeds, which requires and uses Internet Explorer 7's RSS capabilities, including the ability to reply directly via email to the author of an item that appears in an RSS feed, as well as multiple feed aggregation into a single folder
Multi-line message lists, as in Outlook
The usage of Emoticons in e-mails and other functions
In-line spell checking
Separate inbox folders for different POP accounts
Better picture/photo messaging (PhotoMail)
The final version of Windows Live Mail was released on November 6, 2007. It can be installed using Windows Live Installer. |

Think Microsoft's intentions are clear, even though they have not gotten around to actually killing off Vista Mail and Outlook Express just yet.
OG1's observations seem well supported:

All three versions work but Windows Live Mail is the latest version from Microsoft. Microsoft will not abandon Windows Mail because it is already packageed with Vista. Removing Windows Mail from the Vista package is more costly than providing an additional "stand alone" application to work with Vista and XP.
Note from plodr: There is no need to get snippy. I removed the needless comment directed t Boz. Simply posting sources to back up your claim is sufficient. |

Exactly who are you arguing with in these two posts? Seriously, just stop making statements as if they are fact when they are not. _________________

| Do not take things out of context if you want to prove your point. If you used all three versions, you would know better. However, I bow to your limited knowledge in forming your opinions and viewpoint on this matter. |

Windows Live Mail is just an option, actually no more than a plug-in, they would like everyone to use it, because of the advertisements they can generate, not a required upgrade. Windows Mail and Outlook Express are still system based email clients., and will continue to be until XP and Vista are no longer supported. I don't think you will have an option other than a third party email client with the release of the upcoming codename Windows 7, in 2010
Personally I think live mail is no more than a way of delivering advertisements. It does have opt out options, but most people will not take the time to read them.
http://www.microsoft.com/info/privacy/default.mspx
http://www.microsoft.com/info/privacy/fullnotice.mspx
Again, this is an option, not a requirement to have and not a forced use email client. Everyone has a choice, use it if you want.
My choice, I don't use Live Mail or Hotmail.
MS has been developing more software to generate advertisement dollars.
I opt out on Silverlight as well, because it is no more than a new way of advertisement deliver. |

IF WM is EVER actually replaced by WLM in Vista installation packages sold by MS, or as a replacement to WM via Windows Update, THEN you can say: | OG1 wrote: | | Windows Live Mail replaced Windows Mail in MS Vista. | At the time you posted it, and as of right now, your statement is and continues to be WRONG. You even contradicted YOURSELF in this very same thread.
OG1, you simply need to stop acting like you know everything, when many statements that you make are just guesses that you try to make sound like fact. I'm done with this issue, but if you do make similar statements again, without posting a link to factual evidence, not just some writer saying something is going to happen that isn't an official announcement, but that has not yet happened, then I'll delete your post. _________________

Angel didn't ask, if it was a good idea, nor did he ask about the official replacement. He asked if it could be done...
Partial answer:
| angel wrote: | | Can I download Outlook Express... | Yes.
Two potential sources:A Google search, may find others.
| Quote: | | ....and use it insteady of Vista's Mail? | I don't know.
Tucows doesn't include Vista in the list of compatible operating systems.
Since I don't have Vista, I can't test it, to find out for sure.
Unless someone else can answer (instead of arguing about it's replacement), you could try, and find out. |

Of course, as usual, pete is correct. I'm sorry for the distraction.
angel, please see http://www.vistax64.com/vista-mail/123458-...vista.html and http://www.vistax64.com/software/166311-ca...vista.html for answers from some seemingly knowledgeable people. It seems like OE cannot be installed on Vista, according to what I saw at the above links.
Hopefully the above answer is correct.

As an aside... | OG1 wrote: | | angel wrote: | | Can I download Outlook Express and use it insteady of Vista's Mail? | Why?? Use Window Live Mail. I do. The Answer is YES. Again, why would you?? | If the answers at the links I provided are correct, then here is another example of OG1 giving a 100% wrong answer, but saying it as if it were fact. OG1...do NOT answer questions as if you know the answer to be accurate, when in fact you are only guessing. _________________
