My situation exactly, vinnyc! Sending everything & receiving nothing when it comes to good ole metconnect!
My suspicion is that the metconnect folks haven't been paying their Verizon bills!
My guess is that metconnect will be DOA for a really, really long time to come.
The question, before the house, is how does one complain about an ISP that is free?! Griping to metconnect won't do any good - - - that doesn't make them pay their bills.
Charity begins at home (or until the money runs out!).
ATTENTION TO ALL METCONNECT USERS : When & if metconnect rejoins The Land of the Living, be sure to post the news right here!!! |

Guardsman,
We are all experiencing the same problem you had a few months ago with Metconnect. Did you finally figure out the cause of the problem. Any solution ? Did it go back to work for you eventually ?
To all, are there any ISPs offering one month free trial currently ? Thanks.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but like many of you on this site I rely on MetConnect to connect to the internet. I'm not in a situation that I can afford to pay for overpriced internet, with hidden fees, and contracts. I'm experiencing the same issues as all of you have been since March 3rd. I decided to inquiry about it at MetTel the parent company that owns MetConnect and received this email:
Kevin,
Unfortunately MetTel has discontinued the Metconnect service.
Thank you,
Greg Armstrong

Subject: Inquiry about Metconnect? (EmailID:42607)
To Whom it May Concern,
I remember reading awhile back that MetTel actually runs the Metconnect
service in NYC. I wanted to let you know that the service has been down for
two weeks or so. I was curious to know if there were any plans on restoring
service or if the service had been discontinued? I figured perhaps such an
old service doesn't get repaired or tended to much these days.
Sincerely,
Kevin
So there you have it...MetConnect is officially dead instead of emailing it's users or informing us on the site the service has been discontinued they decided to leave us all high and dry. Not sure what I'm honestly going to do for internet now. I refuse to pay for Road Runner or DSL, and from what I've heard Clear is a scam.
Guess I'll have to look into one of the major dial-up companies still around. Rather pay $15-$20 a month for dial up than $60. |

I think there are still dialup ISPs available for $5/mo. You could check to see if one of those has a number in your area. _________________

| I have had VTISP for about 6 years and for $4 a month it is great. Having 100 hours a month may not be good for some people but it is as fast or faster than any of the other 20+ dial-ups I have had and is very reliable. I think they off other plans too. I pay by the year and never have had a billing problem. |

VTISP is a good low-cost option. It costs $3.95/mo if paid annually.
http://all2easy.net/ might be another one to consider at $4.95/mo. _________________

| Has MetConnect stopped functioning? When I log on, it tells me that I am logged on but there is no internet access. Have they gone out of business? |

| I dumped MetConnect last november. Dial up is just way too slow and archaic for today's internet. I switched to FiOS and i can never go back to dial up even if i have no other choice in the future. Free MetConnect was great while it lasted and it was way better than AOL or NetZero when it worked properly. I don't mind paying for internet if it works properly and it gives me little or no problems. Oh well, it was good while it lasted, it's time to move on. |

Probably because of this email sent to someone who inquired about the service.
Unfortunately MetTel has discontinued the Metconnect service.

So you dialed every access number and they work. Can you surf and for how long? |

No, Metconnect is still not working. You can dial into the numbers, and it'll keep you connected. Your computer will try to send information but will not receive any data, and then will disconnect after a few minutes. In short, you cannot surf, only dial into the service with no surfing. You can register accounts online, but that doesn't mean anything. |
