I have been using hotmail for over 9 years. Suddenly, I cannot get into it--must sign up for a new account with windows live or something! I can get my contacts only...NOT my inbox. I tried to sign up as they say, and it would not let me. Please help, somebody! |

| I can't understand this. It appears that @hotmail.com is gone and replaced with @live.com. All my e-mails that are saved are gone and I guess we will need to notify everyone of a new address. Not me! If they don't fix this, I will have lost thousands of dollars in business and I will go to gmail or something. I bet the internet will be burning up with this one. |

Esther....I have been thinking it is punishment for my sins being Easter and Passover at the same time!
I got it fixed. You need to register for the @live.ocm and then look for a drop down box or go to MSN and find ACCOUNT. There it allows you to get hotmail. Don't ask me how I located the ACCOUNT thingy but you may need to just register and then try to log into hotmail afterwards.
What a bunch of trouble!!!!!!! |

Wasn't that AWFUL! I so dreaded trying to fix it this morning, when I had a block of time. I signed in, and it worked and I could access my inbox and all my folders! It does say "live" at the top, but I could use my same u/n and p/w like always.
I then called Microsoft at 1-800-642-7676 and asked for tech support [their online help screen is totally worthless]. I asked "what happened? why weren't we notified?" I think what he said was that they are converting to live, and since my inbox does say "live" at the top, I have already been converted [even tho my address is "@hotmail.com"]. And they are giving us 5 gig of storage--like who cares!
I hope this never happens again! I'm too old to get a scare like this! Anyway, thank you, Bruce. |

Since I don't use hotmail and can't note the change am I understanding correctly that IF I had a plodr@hotmail address, then MS has changed it to plodr@live email address and I'd have to log in at live now rather than hotmail ? They also have moved all the old emails over to the new account?
I know I will see questions at other forums and I want to give the correct information. |

MS has had problems lately with Hotmail & Live Mail. A friend got a warning message recently when logging into Windows Messenger with her Hotmail address. She was instructed to create a new identity. Login, however went without a hitch. Later she got this link: http://windowslivewire.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns !2F7EB29B42641D59!37886.entry
(Click both the "blue" link and copy/paste the whole line - 2 seperate pages.) Essentially: "Our bad".
I converted my Hotmail accounts to Live some time back. The addresses have not changed, and Hotmail is now available in Pop3 form in Outlook Express. |

| Plodr - the hotmail addresses still work. You just have to go to ACCOUNT and it allows you to switch to hotmail. I bookmarked my hotmail account and go to it each time now. Stupid MS on this one! |

Like always, backup, backup, backup.... Especially if you are using it for a buisiness.
I gave up Hotmail when it went to all spam all the time, changed settings without asking, and had to use 3rd party software to access it with email client without paying a fee. Only way to control the spam was to limit mail to that from pre approved email addresses. Great for the under 10 year old generation I guess. But what do you expect from M$, Hotmail had much better service eons ago before M$ bought it. M$ makes great computer mice, but other than that..... not so good products/services. |
