Friday April 2 I discovered my dialup serivice (Access4less) was not working. I am not sure what happen (I thinkg they canceled me) I don't why they would however, I started looking a new ISP using netzero (big banner ***) I went to the freedom list and that's where found Socalfree. Thinking it might be a scam I signed up using BS info but, to my surprise IT'S NOT! I looked up the numbers that I though wound be local to me and today (the 3th) I called SBC to verify the numbers. Only two were local (that was good enough for me) I've been running Socalfree for three hour now with now problems. I've performed a few tests like SSL, no problem, FTP site, did not work when I went direct however, when I used a proxy it worked fine, DNS had no dns lookup (that's a good thing) No busy signals. Over all I would say Socalfree is a good service, I hope they keep it up. I understand they are trying to do the same thing with WIFI. I will update this post if turn to be bad after all also, I would like give special thanks to Access4less for canceling me, now I get it for free!
P.S. I live in the San Gabriel valley.

Not really slower than any other standard isp service that costs $$$. Earthstink, for example, $22/mo(can't get SBC dsl to work, cause the copper lines in my area have tons of noise in them, and SBC isn't going to put up new lines in my lifetime) has fewer busy signals, but they do have them, and also downtime occasionally. This free service will require you to make multiple attempts at logging in, but so what? That's just a minute or 2 of waiting for free service, I've had to do the same for EarthStink! FREE, it rocks!
Just remember to not follow the instructions for slower modems, advice on setup for v34 modem speeds--- use the usual error correction/v90 56k dialup protocol for typical 45-48k speeds. v34 is SLOW.

80% of the time you will get busy signal and couldn't connect.
There are port restricted and couldn't open some secure site.
Well, if you only use this to check email and don't mind a very very very low speed, then go for it since it costs nothing.
