You are one year too late to contact access4less. Contact the ISP which has been billing you for the past year to cancel service.

I was never notified of access4less moving to earthlink. Who should I contact to stop subscribing? (I was already planning on moving to dsl; now seems like the perfect moment.)

Access4less's website gives me a "Cannot find server," and I can't find any information for access4less subscribers on earthlink's site.

I had also been billed extra month even though I cancelled it before the date specified. I printed the cancellation confirmation page when I did it on line. I sent that to my credit card and got their letter that my request is confirmed to stop the payment.

Also note that I did call them and was told it will be refunded later but I suspected they won't because the e-mail address they gave me to send my complain was undeliverable.

I had no problems opting out of the changeover to earthlink.

I did so about a week before my next billing cycle date.

I merely followed the instructions and got to a screen telling me that my service was scheduled for cancellation on May 16.

I even logged on and used the service for the next few days, before May 16. I never logged on the day of May 16.

My cerdit card was never charged again.

I found the process straightforward.

I'm another victim. I canceled on May 2nd, well ahead of their deadline of May 4th or 9th (depending on what message you read). My credit card was charged on the 16th for a further month. I emailed immediately, got a reply that I was not going to be issued a refund, after that they have not responded to any emails. I emailed Earthlink, they were sympathetic (must have heard this a lot, but didn't send me the corporate/legal emails for access4less that I asked for). Anyone out there know the email addresses for someone important at access4less?

Thanks
Andy

I beg to differ. I opted out of A4L on 5/08. They discontinued service on 5/9. I was paid from 5/1 thru 5/31. When I e-mailed them they said the smallest unit of service is one month (because I stopped their service). I e-mailed them again and explained that I opted ouy of EARTHLINK not A4L and that A4L dropped me. NEVER HEARD ANOTHER WORD.

Also, prior to the above I asked A4L if EARTHLINK'S $9.95 rate is a fixed rate or a promotion. They replied that its a fixed rate but like any other business they have the right to change their rate.

A4L will have service until middle June for all paid subscribers. On May 20th customers who did not Opt out will have service in ELINK, but customers who paid for service will have service at A4L until middle of June.[/quote]

For the record, there was NOT adware and spyware in the A4L dialer.

Just for the record, there certainly WAS both adware and spyware in their dialer program, named isetup.exe, which the user was prompted to run as part of the signup/setup procedure. Good riddance to them.

I am a former access4less customer, having declined the switch to earthlink and officially ending my service on May8th... having notified them on April 26th, per their instructions. I received confirmation and assumed things would go smooth. Not quite. I received a statement from access4less, showing that they had just taken payment from my credit card for the month of May 5th to June 4th! Now, I know they said my termination would take place on May 8th, not on May 4th, which is my official last day of the billing cycle, but they assigned me the May 8th date as my final day. Why would a company charge someone for a month that they would not use, and in addition, there won't even be an access4less after may 20th! Yet they took payment from me for a time period up to June 4th! They did end my service on the date they promised... so now, I can't get onlinwe for those days that they're charging me for, nor can I use access4less email, but my money sure is good enough for them! Needless to say, I've emailed them several times and their autoresponder replies telling me that their customer service will respond to my request. Sure they will. Someone mentioned the word "integrity" talking about how access4less is handling this switch-over. Think again. Anyone else getting burned for a month of non-existent internet service?? Keep an eye on your credit card for that last month!

I was notified in a timely manner both via email
and by website (and by performance degradation)
of the coming change. I followed their instructions
for opting out, and it has worked as advertised.

It's refereshing to see such an example of integrity!

Post  Title: Earthlink vs Access4less

I originally started out with JPS.net which sold out to OneMain.com which sold out to Earthlink. I had NO PROBLEMS until the move to Earthlink. . . after that I would receive as many as 7 "busy signals" each time that I tried to access Earthlink. That is why I am opting out.

Access4Less.net has given me great service up until April 29, 2005, when they CRASHED for 4-days...I almost expected that they would not make the effort to get back up because of the transfer to Earthlink in two weeks.

I also encountered the same problems as one other subscriber in trying to Opt Out...I hope that they have taken care of it because I will go to my credit card company and get a charge back if Earthlink charges my card.

Post  Title: Gonna miss this ISP

Guest

Really hate to see A4L pull the plug on this service.

Read a few minor gripes about them, but personally, I have enjoyed reliable and virtually trouble free service from the moment I signed up. In addition, I truly appreciate the way they conduct business even as the end grows near. Although they will be missed, the notice of closing sent out with plenty of advance warning was refreshing. Unlike some other low cost ISP's that just pulled the plug and ran like thieves in the night without warning, leaving people hanging, the A4L folks in my opinion are a class act and will be hard to follow for the price..

With that said, I went with Worldnetusa.net as mentioned in a post by aci-john. Service close to A4L without email, but they gave me a price match to what I was paying A4L with no set up fee, and I was set up in 5 min. Had to call their 800 #, to get set up, but for credit card info. that was my preference anyway. Just hope they come close to A4L with service and I will post my experience later.

This is the post to worldnet I refered to:  http://www.freedomlist.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20150

Thanks Freedomlist for the great source of info. and thanks and good bye A4L.

Post  Title: Problems opting-out

I received an email from Access4less about the sale of the company to Earthlink. In the email they wrote that I needed to opt-out by 5/9/05 or they would move my account to Earthlink. I went to A4l site signed in and clicked on the opt out button, then a message appeared on the page that no more charges would be made to my account. At that point I thought the process was complete.

On 4/24/05 I receive an automated telephone message from Access4less informing me that if they didn't hear anything from me by 5/2/05 they would move my account to Earthlink. Well, I started sending emails from my primary email account to , , and all of which were rejected; I would get a failure of delivery message.

I had to use an alternate email account to contact Access4less. I did receive a reply, but they said I needed to provide them with my name, and registration number, all of which were included in my email. What’s going on here? Surely Access4less doesn't want my $9.95 to go to Earthlink that bad? Should I be concerned?
Confused

Post  Title: Use Earthlink the same way you use Access4less.net

I just got done talking to Earthlink Tech support, they said I DO NOT HAVE TO USE THEIR SOFTWARE TO ACCESS THEIR INTERNET SERIVCE!! That means I can still use Windows Dial-Up Networking to Dial into Earthlink just like I did for Access4less.net! And I can use POP Mail clients such as Microsoft Outlook Express to access E-mail! Access4less.net even said I can keep all my Access4less.net E-mail addresses!! I think the only change here is the access number instead of dialing into Access4less.net I will dial into Earthlink!! Access4less.net also said; "We have made a special arrangement with EarthLink that will keep you connected through EarthLink's award-winning service at special discounts available especially to our subscribers." That means you will not have to pay anymore then $9.95 per month ever because you were a Access4less.net member!! Also the entire Hawk Communications Network which owns Access4less.net is transfering all users to Earthlink!! That means Access-4-free.com and  http://www.hawkcommunications.com  If you go to  http://www.access-4-free.com  you will notice they have an Earthlink.net link which says Access-4-Free members get the discount!! Here is the link:  http://www.earthlink.net/offers/access4free/

Oh I'm sorry. It did not say anything about Access4less. I just went to Earthlinks website to learn more about it and saw that 9.95 is available for 6 months only. And I assumed that meant for everyone. Maybe it does not apply to those of us on access4less,but I just don't trust it. I am a pessimist.Lol. I do aplogize though for being unclear about it not mentioning access4less users
I wouldn't be surprised, but it hasn't been verified.
