Title: NetZero is a Scam and We Should File a Class Action Law Suit
|
|
gemurp Guest
To all:
I made the mistake of signing-up to NetZero Platinum in Best Buy on 11/3/04 with the first month to supposedly be free. On 11/6/04, I received an error message " Your NetZero connection has been corrupted. Please reinstall the software. " After trying to reinstall the software myself and calling the toll free automated help line with no results, I was forced to call the $1.99 per minute live technical assistance number twice to correct and reload the software. Their system conveniently disconnected me the first time I called and once a live connection was made, which required me to place another charge call. They stated that the corruption occured because of NetZero's automated system updates, yet they have charged my credit card account $29.25. I cancelled my account 11/14/04 through a person named " Yachia ". I recieved a confirmation number, However, after reading some of you folks' complaints, I'm not so sure that these bastards have cancelled my account. On 11/8, I received e-mail confirmation from an Alice B. in Tech Charges that the $29.25 would be removed. But they have not credited this money back to my account. I'm extremely "ticked" off! I've contacted my bank to stop payment on any charges to NetZero. Has anyone done the math on how much fraudulent money Netzero makes on hundreds of thousands of incidents like mine? Million's of dollars, even if you cancel within the fake 30-day free trial! Are you "ticked" off yet. I'm ready to sue the bastards. Please join me in a class action law suit against these CHUMPS, as they should suffer much more than we have. I can be reached at (edit - email address removed - J) If you are still with NetZero, I recommend that you get out as soon as you can!
Regards,
George

Title: HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED

For those of you are considering signing up with NetZero, DON'T. I've used them for years, and I've noticed since the begining of the this year, internet connections have been bogging down. Even with version 7.
My main gripe is the reliability. I get connected at the same speed I used too, and the first few minutes the connection seems fine. Then all of a sudden, traffic stops to a DEAD HAULT. I don't dropped, just no activity. This happens every single time. I continually have to hang-up and re-call.
Another reason I'm fed up with them is that you have to use their dail-up software, and it plays stupid advertisment videos! With new ads every month. NZ is sneaking them into your computer, slowing down the connection even more. The dail-up software also steals the focus from your desktop. It's alsways on top of other programs! And when you exit from it, a big window pops up asking you, "Do You Really Want To Exit?" WTF?!?!?!?! YES!
For a major nationwide comapny, with all their TV ads and what not, you'd think they can provide a better service. I'm going to cancel this BS of an ISP. Hopefully, I won't become another victim like other NZ users when they tried to cancel.

This is what I experienced in Costa Mesa, CA. A year ago I dropped NZ and have been using Access4Less; I've been satisfied. It's better than NZ, but for a few bucks more, you can do a lot better. Luckilly, I have Broadband at work for large downloads.

I've used NetZero for about 2+ years. Started with the free basic service then switched to Platinum. The connection/speed was fine then, but now it has gotten REALLY BAD, to a point where i'm going to change ISP.
The connection speed is around 44k and higher as before, but the reliabilty now is... well... non-exsistant. I checked my Network Connection in WinXP, and in 15min, I racked up over 200+ packet errors. Obviously I couldn't go around the net, but I just sat there looking how high the error count would go.
I thought it was my house's phone line (I live in Long Beach CA), but then I moved to Indio CA, and it's the same drama! Completely worhtless ISP. I also can't stand those STUPID ad videos that play back during dail-up. I know those things download in the background, eating the little bandwidth modems already have. They even put a soundtrack on some of them! I can't listen to my MP3s in peace!!!

I'm dropping the "hi-speed" portion to platinum for one simple reason, it only works with Internet Explorer, and I refuse to use it. Now I'm dealing with IE getting defaulted by netzero on each startup Luckily, I created a bank account for netzero that I can close if they can't undertand a cancel request.

The Taskbat Icon (2 monitors for up/down) just go dark = nothig uploading or downloading. NZ support has been no help.
I'm afraid my problem may be NZ's way of getting me to switch to their fast service: I've used them for years.

Title: THANK YOU ALL FOR THE NETZERO WARNING MSGS.

I just want to take a moment to thank all of you who took the time to post a warning to us potential victims about the Netzero scam. It is your collective warnings that helped me dodge a Netzero bullet of despair. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you all!!! David M.

Title: lousy service at NetZero
|
|
fredo Guest
I've had NetZero for nearly 3 months and am not pleased with the service. often times is unable to search and find web sites, thus, wasting time. TIME IS MONEY! I will be trying AOL or YAHOO which i find to always search & locate websites. Furthermore, in order to speak with a live person at NetZero you must dial long distance or begin paying $5:00 for the initial first call. JUST WHO DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE?

You might run into difficulty if you manage your cookies, and after each session you delete your temp files--windows and internet--,history folder, and fragments, as well as clear out your index.dat files in both cookies and temporory internet folders.
Now, think of the price. For ten bucks more, you can have broadband.
I have broadband at work and for $5 a month, dial-up at home. I used NetZero for three years before they aggrivated me enough to check out the competition. There are much better deals out there!
Good Luck. | pirates1933 wrote: | I just signed up for Netzero Hi speed,it does everything it says, plus.
Page downloads are 2-4-6-8-&16 times faster then regular dialup.
If people sign up because of my assessment of NZ High Speed please post your results, thank you. |

I've been having the exact same problems and two more in addition: Every week or two NZ totally shuts down and I have to re-install. Additionally, every once in a while NZ will cause my computer to shut down automatically. I have attempted to get help from NZ tech support, but they finally told me that I needed to take it to my local computer doctor. A lot of help they were. I have used other ISP's in the past without these problems. |
Sounds like you may have a virus or a worm. Run a program like Spybot, then run your AV program. If I'm correct this should alleviate the shut-down problems you're having with NZ.
The time-out problem with NZ I still experience on occassion with another ISP. It appears that this is, to some degree, a nuisance we have to deal with in dial-ups; although, NZ was far worse at twice the monthly cost.
good luck, Ed

IF YOU CALL THE LINE TO CANCEL YOU WILL NOTICE THEY READ OUT A URL TO CANCEL ONLINE WITHOUT HAVING TO TALK TO A REPRESENTATIVE. IT CLICKS ON WHEN LINES ARE BUSY I THINK IT IS WWW.NETZERO.COM/ACCOUNTS/CANCEL OR SOMETHING NEAR THAT. I LIKED NET ZERO, I SWITCHED LATER BECAUSE I GOT BORED AND EMAIL WAS A PAIN

I found a solution. Dropped NetZero and went to Access4Less. So far, it's a good dial-up ISP.
I guess my suspicions about NZ were right: they've sabotaged their Platinum service, hoping to get another $5/month for "high speed." If this is true, I hope others will do as I did and find an alternate ISP: Good luck.

I had to fire NetZero because two of my e-mail addresses died the first of June. I also did not like all the spam sent by NetZero.

Title: NetZero is not that good - any better ?
|
|
DP Guest
I've been their user for 1 year. I have no other experience for now so I cannot compare(I had HiSp).
ANY ISP better than this at $10 HiSpeed ?
I give you a honest report:
PROS:
1. stable network all over the country(I used to travel)
2. reliable company - will not disapear next month.
3. cust service OK but not excelent (lucky I know PC)
4. HiSpeed (=$15/mo) checked for speed - 3minimum usual-5-6 times faster. In tests on different sites (speed measure) speed was better than 128K ISDN
(pictures are still good to see and choose for Hi quality dnld)
5. No problems with installation (w2k)
CONS:
1. disconnect after 4 hours exactly - need to reconnect - no good for heavy user like me
2. 20 min or so idle popup - need to click
3. some days it disconnects - about 20% more for phone calls
4. Long connect and disconnect time (5min ea.)- taking over your computer CPU
5. HiSpeed often not available (although paid extra $5) - down to ~24-33kbps
