Post  Title: Same termination notice

I got the same early termination notice on 12/01/01. I
think it is very unfair because they did not mention
anything about the usage limitation during the signup.

Post  Title: NZ Platinum Not Really Unlimited Access!!

Thomas White
Guest
Just got an email from Netzero today. I prepaid for 15
months of unlimited internet access using
their ''Platinum\" service. Well, they decided that
because of rising costs and because I have high
usuage, that effective December 30, I will be cut off.
They said that if I reply to their email telling them to
cancel immediately, they will cut me off within 5 days
and refund me the difference, but they don''t say what
will happen to the balance after 12/30./ Anyway, it''s a
slow connection and causes problems with my browser
(IE) I just don''t think it fair that they could do this. Do
you? If you know anyone else affected by this kind of
action, encourage them to write to the FCC and to Mark
Goldston, Chairman of NetZero.

I upgraded to Net Zero Platinum approximately six
months ago being promised unlimited Internet
connection. One of the first things that I noticed was
that as I surfed the Internet I was continually plagued
by a (this page cannot be displayed) warning. This
would not allow me to download any more pages, in
effect disconnecting me from the Internet while allowing
me to remain logged on. (I was connected, but at the
same time in actuality I was disconnected.) I then
would have to disconnect from the web and relog on, a
slow and cumbersome project. I have dealt with this
situation from the beginning of my subscription to their
service but continued with them because at first it didn’t
happen that often. However, the frequency by which
this inconvenience occurs has increased dramatically
within the last four to five weeks. Sometimes I can’t
surf for more that five minutes at a time. I finally
contacted their customer support Nov.14 for assistance
and they sent me back several possible solutions with
which I tried to alleviate the problem. It was to no
avail, as none remedied the situation.
I just received a notice, that they were canceling my
account because I have become a liability on their
resources. They intend to discontinue my service
Dec.30. That''s fine… they can do what they want,
however I am currently paid up and they are grossly
hindering my availability to the Internet by using these
tactics as I described above. I believe they are trying to
get me to cancel my account prematurely by strong-
arm tactics. I have to believe that this is illegal and
intent to make a formal complaint to the Attorney
General in the state of California. Their web address is
 http://caag.state.ca.us/consumers/mailform.htm  . I live
in Indiana so I will also make a complaint to the
Attorney General here. That web address is
 http://www.ai.org/attorneygeneral/complaint/index.htm
. Find the perspective AG’s for your particular state and
file a consumer complaint. That is what you pay taxes
for. You can also go the Federal Trade Commission site
and file a consumer complaint there. The URL is
 http://www.ftc.gov/ftc/consumer.htm  . When making
this complaint make sure to include Net Zero’s regular
mail address and phone numbers.

I hope this helps anyone wishing to take control of such
grievous injuries incurred by the abuses of Net Zero.

Post  Title: NetZero Dumped On Us

Annie
Guest
I got the same message as everyone else. I noticed
when it was free I hardly ever got booted then when I
got the Platinum I was constantly being booted. What
makes me mad is they sent out the notice the day
before their billing hits my bank. How convenient for
them. Then if I cancel it will take 2 billing cycles to get
my lousy 9.95 or what ever they pro rate it back at..
What a crock!!! I also use Outlook Express with their
email addy for my personal emails, now I may not even
have access to my email if I can''t get the 10 hours free
a month, since they prob will not have access here in
Portland, Oregon. I did check out Avon.Net they are
cheap & will even send you a CD disc so you can
download them, or you can download them off the net.
I prefer to have a disc as a backup in case of
installation probs or if my computer crashes. If anyone
finds out about other good cheap services who send out
a CD disc to download from post it here. Good luck
everyone in finding a nice reliable ISP.

I''m using netzero platinum for a little less than a year
and today I just got my service termination note too. I
knew the moment that netzero merged with that
rediculous juno they would screw up. They can go sell
their fake \"unlimited access\" to Bangladesh or
Afghanistan cuz they ticked me off so bad to the point I
don''t even want their free service for back up.

Netzero Platinum \"Unlimited\" is not
UNLIMITED. On a scale of 1-10 I give it a 1. Just got my
notice today for excess usuage. See below....
Does anyone know who to complain to about these
people and the way they do business?

If you exceed their \"usage\" agreement, your account
gets terminated. Reads the following I received from
Netzero. > We regret to inform you that based upon
certain factors, including the cost of telecommunications
services in your area and your pattern of usage of our
service, it has become too expensive for our company
to provide you with Platinum Internet access. In
accordance with the
terms and conditions of your user agreement, your
Platinum account
will be terminated on December 30, 2001. Your
account will automatically revert to our standard free
service, including email with your same member ID, on
December 30, 2001, if such service is
available in your area.* If the free service is not
available, we are
unable to provide any service, including email, to you.

We provide you with this notice to allow you ample
time to establish
service with another provider. If you wish to terminate
your account
prior to December 30, 2001, simply reply to this email,
leaving the text of this email in place, state your desire
to cancel and your
account will be terminated within 5 business days

being used by net zero.

they got us to convert to platinium when they
limited the free hours to 40. now that they are
dropping the 40 free hours down to 10 they obviously
don''t have the capacity to handle us heavy users.
it''s obvious they don''t care since they believe to gain
revenue from those 40 hour users who will now pay
the $9.95.

Any company which takes such a myopic view will
not be in business for the long haul, you simply can''t
screw your customers. those of us who did switch to
platinum in the last year and basically saved net zero''s
a** from going under are no longer considered a
valuable customer.

to those of you thinking of switching to platinum- DON''T.
who knows at what level they will dump you or when l
they will raise the fees once they switch you.

It seems that we are all too expensive for Netzero. Or
maybe we all live in the same area (re:their letter). I
have used them since 1996 or 97 and went to the
platinum because the ads were driving me crazy. But
10 hrs a month? I spend that must time trying to re
connect!

Post  Title: net zero dropping customers

john
Guest
net zero platinum no longer offering unlimted
access, they are dropping me also due
to my pattern of usage, which is well over 200
hours per month.

maybe i was \"costing\" net-zero too much money
due to my usage, but i also have several friends
and relatives who switched to net-zero which are
not \"heavy\" users based on my rec.

net-zero will eventually lose these other accounts
since those friends and relatives will be advised by
me to switch. i suspect net-zero will be out of
business once word gets out about how
they treat their customers.

at least they have given us 30 days to find another
isp.

for those of you looking, msn has a 3-month free trial
and the cheapest isp offer i have found so far is
accesscheap.net

Netzero has also notified us that our service will end
on
Dec. 31st. Their promise of unlimited access is
obviously a lie. They also use your credit card at
their
discretion without permission, once you give them your
number for their platinum service. You cannot reach a
person for problems without giving your credit card
number and incurring another charge. I would not
recommend Netzero to anyone due to the problems we
have had.

Reading other comments I don''t feel so bad. hahaa
I''m deaf and retired, So I use the computer a lot.
I have used Netzero for two years and went with their
paid plan a year ago. I get booted off a lot but what
the heck, it''s Cheap. But in the last few months I have
had a lot of problems that I think Netzero is responsible
for. to try to make people who use the service alot,
leave. I just got my NOTICE that they were not going
to give me service after 12-30-01, So I will fine
another service. ANY SUGGESTIONS , looking
at LOCALNET, SOUNDS GOOD.,

I had used netzero for well over a year (mostly on and
off until about a year ago). Then I decided to pay for
the platinum because I HAD like the service. Today I
just got an e-mail from them stating they were going to
drop me the end of Dec. because I used the internet
too much (least thats how I interpreted it). Even
though I have paid well into next year..........Needless
to say--I do not recommend NetZero to anyone and I
regret having recommended them to several friends.

PLATINUM IS NOT UNLIMITED!

I have used the Platinum service for about 3 months
with no complants. I signed up for 6 months after the
free hours were reduced to 10. I just received an email
from NetZero stating because of my usage I was too
expensive for the company to provide me Plantinum
Service and they were terminating my account in 30
days!!! Below is the email I received:

We regret to inform you that based upon certain

cost of telecommunications services in your area and
your pattern of
usage of our service, it has become too expensive for
our company to

your account
prior to December 30, 2001, simply reply to this email,
leaving the
text of this email in place, state your desire to cancel
and your
account will be terminated within 5 business days.

You will automatically receive a refund of any fees you
have already
paid for any period of time remaining after your
termination, which
you should see within two billing cycles of your credit
card or within
30 days if you paid by check or money order.

Sincerely,

NetZero

gets dropped most of the time - what am I paying for?
I am currently seriously looking for a better isp - even

I switched to Netzero Platinum when they were limiting
their free service to 10 hrs. a month. I went with
their 6 month plan. It''s been 1 month now and I have
no complaints. I have none of the problems described
in the former posts. I do not get knocked off very
often, it does happen though. I have NEVER had
problems connecting, 1 try every time. I give it a 8,
because they do have pop up ads every so often.
