Post  Title: Not bad as far as speed, but a real pain to cancel.

I'm only using their free service at the moment, but I rarely ever had any connection problems, and the web surfing was pretty fast. The thing is that they're a royal pain in the rear end to cancel. So buyer beware. If you do sign up and try to cancel, be prepared to argue with some bozo in India, who speaks broken English, and has a nasty attitude, because that's who you'll end up talking to.

When I cancelled netzero they billed me for charges that just didnt make any sense they made my checking account overdrawn over $150 because of overlimit fees and bounced check fees it caused all my checks to bounce when I called them to get it fixed they said they didnt know why I was billed like that and they would return my money but they never did now I am going to take them to small claims court and I am having my bank investigate them.

On the subject of trying to cancel Netzero Dial Up Internet. These guys are as bad as trying to cancel AOL. You would think that with all the bad press AOL has gotten for giving their customers the run around over cancelling, Netzero would not want to follow their path. I cancelled my Netzero account in September 2006, I was billed again in October, at which point I called Netzero and cancelled again. Now it is November 8th, 2006 and guess what? My checking account was charged again! So, once again, I call Netzero. They tell me they have no record of my cancellation, either of the previous two times I've cancelled! GRRR! I'm very frustrated at this point (to say the least) I ask to speak to a supervisor and she says "We are sorry to lose you as a customer" I tell her I'm not a customer and the fact is , I am a victim of theft from Netzero. Well, I cancelled, again, for the third time, today. We'll see what happens. I spoke to the bank and they told me I can fill out a form that will stop all charges from Netzero from occuring ever again, so I'm headed to the bank now! Good luck to anyone who tries to cancel their service with Netzero. Honestly, I wish there were something all of us who have been burned by Netzero could do to stop the madness. Anyone work for a newspaper, TV or radio station that could get the word out? I'd really love to hit these guys where it hurts.

I don't have any trouble with either service.
As a matter of fact I just downloaded a 47MB file with no real problems at all.
Never having used anything but JUNO or NetZero I have no way to measure another Internet service.

One thing that NZ does is load and or update files without letting you know. This can be very annoying.
What I do is block everything momentarily. This gets them off my back and I can continue using
the Internet.

Someone suggested using a gift card to pay for the service.

I signed up for NetZero dial-up as I only have phone access. It was impossible to get online. It would dial numerous numbers and all were busy! The following day I cancelled by phone and they billed my account for Aug & Sept. I called them again and eventually got someone to give me a cancellation number. Many calls (When I could get a live person) have ensued with no refunds, or promises to date. They know how much I used their services (NIL) and owe me two months.
Never dealt with a company so devious as NetZero!

Just to provide a clarification for those who don't know: almost no ISPs (and absolutely none that would be listed on Freedomlist) own their own phone numbers/dial-up equipment/etc. - they lease access on a contract with a backbone provider. Usually, these state that the ISPs customers will be disconnected at a certain number of hours of use, no matter what the customer is doing at the time or the activity on the session. So, even if the ISP wanted to change it, they can't. Once again, this is true of almost all dial-up ISPs. There is much, much more on the subject in various places of Freedomlist's other  forums  .
If you're downloading a program on dial-up, it's best to use a download manager that allows continuation of broken downloads.

Have been using Netzero for 2 years. Use the internet regularly for extended periods of more than 3 hours. Without fail, I will be disconnected precisely at the 3 hour mark. A message will be displayed "connection lost for unknown reasons". I've done extensive correspondence with their customer support about the reasons and causes of their timeouts. All support solutions, ie. use different access number, check internet settings etc. have NOTHING to do with this issue.

Upon extensive questioning emails to their customer support, here is what I've gotten in response from them so far:

"Session timeouts prevent members' phone lines from being tied up for long periods of time." - Well that isn't anyting new, what I want to know is why.

"Please note that the Session Timeouts happen at server levels. These settings cannot be changed"
- Well, I'm not logged in through any server network if that's what they mean, so that doesn't apply. If they're talking about the Netzero "server level", then certainly Netzero could change it, right?

I really apologize for this long post, but I felt the need to express my ongoing frustration due to such vague responses from Netzero that appear designed to circumvent any admission on their part for disconnecting a customer after exactly 3 hours. Why they won't admit it is beyond me. Perhaps there would be legal implications involved if they did. Thanks for reading. Liar <netzero

to avoid billing errrors
use netzero gift certificates instead of credit cards to pay your netzero bills.

frugu,

Netzero is part of United Online, as is Juno. Instead of offering web space through either Netzero or Juno, United Online offers both free and paid web space through MySite. See "  http://www.mysite.com/  " for further details. I cannot say anything about this web space service as I have not used it. But as a free Netzero (and Juno) customer I have been notified about its availability.

Been with NZ for a couple of years now. No drop connections, no slow connections (so far). Only complaints are, there's no Newsgroup access and the inability to use the window's DUN. An inclusion of a little web page space would be welcome.

by the way, with regards to your suggestion to research "BEFORE" signing up for an ISP, are you giving this valuable information to other members that have written about how they were abused by a company. i would hate to think such belated and obvious information is being withheld from the masses.

In the future, I suggest BEFORE you sign up for any ISP or purchase software, you do a search (google or yahoo). The posts by frustrated users should warn you what to avoid and what is worthwhile.

I was not asking YOU to do anything. I just copied and pasted a complaint to a lawfirm. Thanks for the suggestion to research AFTER the fact, you seem to be the king/queen of the obvious. Unfortunately your statement is about 5 moths late. Sorry my post wasn't written in a way that you seem to like, but i'm sure others will find it useful. ta ta

Please do something about this company. They are out of control! I called in to receive internet service and the girl I spoke with added extra features on my program after I repeatedly told her not to. She then told me the only way to cancel it is to call in the next day, but I refused that answer until she finally agreed to take it off. When I called back later that night to double-check that she had taken it off, I spoke with another girl who confirmed that the unwanted service was still on the account. I told that girl to take it off, and after being placed on hold, she came back to tell me that she had taken the unwanted program off, but that she added another unwanted package. (I am under the impression that they are getting incentives for signing people up, legally or not.) At this point I told her that I wanted to speak with her supervisor, but she refused to do so. Her only excuse was, "I can't." And then, she HUNG UP ON ME! I called back and spoke with a supervisor, and explained what happened. He sent me to the retention department. I told him to not open the account and he said he wouldn't and that I wouldn't get charged. The following bank statement showed that they charged me for a month's worth of service. When I called to inquire, they informed me that they would credit the money back the next month. When the next statement came, they charged me for another month. I called back and a supervisor (after hours of yelling back and forth) agreed to credit back the second month and send me a check for the first month. After a couple months of never seeing this promised check, I called back last night. The person on the other end informed me that the matter was taken to corporate and that they decided that they would not be able to reimburse me for the 1st month. Conveniently for them, they decided not to inform me about this. I spoke with them again this morning, and I was informed that I couldn’t be reimbursed for the first month, since the $9.95 package did not include the first month free. When I called the sales office to see why it was advertised this way, I was told that it DOES include free first month. They still refuse to pay.

Their only argument is that because i gave them my credit card, I obviously opened the account. But they conveniently did not have any record of me calling multiple times to cancel the account on that first day I dealt with them, as well as after their first of 2 erroneous charge on my account.

I've never dealt with a company with such horrendous business practice. My whole experience with them reeked of bad business, and it is scary to think that the Netzero employees signing people up for these services have total access to accounts, but yet hold no accountability. Please do something about this, as I am willing to bet my left arm, that it wouldn't take much digging for you to find that they are a company founded on a lack of morals and practicing with no regard of ethics.

Post  Title: How to Cancel an Account

luluinphilly

When I got NetZero, I needed it because my employer decided to cancel free access. I can still get my company email but I can't get online. Anyway, when I cancelled NetZero, I just told the CSR that, "I get free access through work." Of course she tried to sell me an email account "for free" which we know is bogus. But I stuck to my guns and said, "I get email through my employer." The argument on their end? "Do you know your employer has the right to look at your email content? You can get an email account and not have to worry about them looking at your email." Well, that's true but if you're at work checking your Yahoo accounts or other accounts, they can still check up on you. If nothing else works, just tell them you now get free email and internet access through your employer. And end it right there.

I signed up for NetZero for $6.95 per month. Now that my contract is up, I'm glad I found Freedomlist.com. I was sick of the constant "checking" by NetZero. It's really not checking. If you click on a link that opens up another window or a link that opens up a pop-up advertisement, that's when you get the "checking." Hello? I just closed the window so I still must be alive! It's not the pop-up goblins! And the constant bumping off. After reading other comments, now I know why. Unless you're going to be on and off in under an hour, then you'll be fine. I've been bumped off, had to sign-on again, and was immediately bumped off again! How insane is that? Although, I must say that I cancelled my account without any trouble. And I'm notorious for getting things refunded to my credit card. Just make sure you get FULL NAMES, have them send you a copy of your cancellation to you, AND check your credit card statements immediately. I can do it online so if I'm charged, guess who's getting a phone call? Unfortunately you have to be on top of the company in order to get the satisfaction as a customer you deserve.

clintjam this is a Netzero thread and you want info about Juno.
I suggest you go to https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/18141/author/
and send him an email asking if this works on Juno.
