This started as a very good free internet provider. Then you could not download the program. Now there are a lot of busy signals. (in the St. Catharines area) Until they upgrade the system, this ISP needs some work.

I bought the CD at the local HMV since all the other Free ISP's seem to be deminishing quite quickly. Works good most of the time but banner is biggest I've seen. Anyway in my opinion I guess this is the best Free ISP in Canada right now which still isnt that good considering theres not many left. Faster than Juno & Funcow. I hardly ever get disconnected.

3web is one of only 3 isp's available in Windsor the other 2 being Juno and Netzero. I don't like 3web because its software is heavy on the system resources, I mean 4 megs for a dialer cmon! But who am I to complain if I'm getting something for free.

It seems to be the best FISP available outside of Toronto. Downloaded from net. Had no problems. Runs fine. Have Netzero for backup which is very intrusive by comparison. No contest.

I bought their CD installation software at a Canada Post outlet, installed, and ran it and was very, very disappointed. It takes over your PC even forces you to use their own browser, places files in your PC and add-ons that you do not want or authorize.
This is garbage as far as I am concerned and have uninstalled it which took over an hour to clean-up my hard drive, then I threw the CD in the garbage. I currently am using Funcow (very slow, and hard to log-on during the evening peak hours) and NetZero (also very intrusive, runs active scripts, etc.)

I used 3web last year. The service was good. Note so far it's the free ISP with technical support. Now everybody is with 3web after the others closed down. This makes it had to connect. 3web admitted that its network is overloaded but it says that it is upgrading.

Nice product and service.

Well, I find this ISP very hard to connect (Montreal) but if I am very patient sometimes I can connect within 10 tries, But once I am on there is no problem I have never been disconnected much to talk about and speed is average (a whole lot faster than Funcow I like to alternate between this and Netzero(40hr limit/month) and use funcow as a totally last resort.
In spite of it all... IT IS FREE so who really cares as long as U have a connection somewhere... If U aint happy then pay for your service Yippykiyay !
Later pple

Your review is right on the money for the St. John's area... connection is not a problem but it's painfully slow at around 200 bps.

Post  Title: phantom window...

cam
Guest
Anonymous complained of a phantom isp portal at the top of his screen after using 3web, and I had the same thing happen to me... I got booted, my computer locked up, and when my computer re-booted, I found that a band at the top of my screen was blank, no program I started could occupy that band! It was very near the same size as the ad banner... Well I found that running 3web, and logging off properly put my video back to normal. I hope this helps some people out, I had this happen to me using funcow too, but I find that, unfortunitely, 3web crashes more often....

Just what region are you in? Do you work for/at or are you trying to promote 3Web? 400 hours per month is a 100 hour week. If NetZero and other freebies are starting to charge FISP hogs (over 40 hours per week) due to the fact that other users are negatively impacted, does your activity impact all the others who are complaning about this ISP?

Post  Title: 3Web.net, more like 3slow.net...

I was forced to start using 3web when 1stup went belly up, and all I can say is that it is a piece of garbage. I have no problems connecting all the time, but it hangs up frequently, and if I go surfing anywhere off the island (I live in St. John's, Newfoundland), I am lucky to get 200 Bytes a second speed. Local sites are giving me the 56k speeds that should be coming out of the service, but off island, I am waiting 10 minutes to check my mail when I only got one message. I would go to another one, but I can't seem to find any other ones. Unless they get the speeds fixed, my rating of 3web, 1 out of 10!

Post  Title: 3web Download

Why me?
Guest
Is there anyone who can help me find a link other than 3web to download the software for them. Apparently, the demand for 3web is too high and they won't let anyone download from their website anymore. The only way is to pay them $10 to get the software mailed to us which I don't want to do. Please help!!!

Post  Title: A mess

What a mess ! not only is it very difficult to connect, they disconnect you every "two minutes". Most of the free ISPs, not to say all maybe, look more like spys than anything else. Governments should prohibit such people (including Microsoft and company) from spying massively upon their citizens.
