Title: address.com(free internet access)
the_imposter60 Guest
this is BAD! WAY too much of a hastle to deal with! ya gotta agree to this, that and the other thing, send them a pint of your blood, give up your first born child, send a lock of your hair, let them rummage through your trash, etc.(i'm joking,of course) how many thing's do you have to do here to get the free access?-ALOT! you must agree to buy stuff(oh,yeah like ALL of us have credit card's!)and exactly how much free access time do you get? i don't know,i did'nt stay on the site long enough to find out(probably 10 hour's each month, like most so-called"free access" site's). i REALLY hate to say it,but you're probably better off going with AOL's free trial offer(ugh!),1,025 hour's for 45 day's,or trying to find a decent, cheap local alternative.

I'm the "master" of FREE anything, and Address.com is the worst free internet. All those ads and you can't use your service half the time. Also, you can't use popular instant messager services, as a matter of fact, you can't use ANY instant messager services unless they can open it with your browser.

Title: Chose not to install
Annoyed Guest
I could tell that this would be loaded with spyware the moment I got the installation screen with the things I had to "agree" to. I cancelled the installation right then and there. I'm realistic-- I'll accept that a free service involves inconveniences like advertising and frequent busy signals. I won't accept installing hidden software that affects my entire system, as well as requiring software downloads that have nothing to do with my internet connection.
Oh, and PERSONWHOPAYSFORTHEINTERNET needs to get a life. If you aren't interested in a free service, what are you doing wasting your time posting messages on a "free ISP" review group?

***. It waists your time with the forced ad jumping and disconnects often. My computer would Always lock up. Finally, it infected my computer so bad it wouldn't even boot up any more. I had to take it for repair... it needed a new hard drive. Stay away from address.com!

Title: Getting rid of Address.com
Sam Guest
I had to "flatline" my computer to get rid of Address.com -- wipe everything off my hard disk and reinstall.
Another avenue to attempt is lavasoftusa.com. It will rid your computer of spyware, which Address.com puts on your computer. I don't know if lavasoftusa will rid your computer of everything associated with Address.com, but it is worth a try before the more drastic solution above is attempted.

Title: Address.com is the DEVIL
ensane_asylum Guest
This "free" service really truly ***. First, I couldn't get it to allow me to access the net, and then it decided to install a bunch of freaky files on my comp. Pop-ups were horrible. To all of the users who still get emails from them, block them as senders. That's pretty much all we can do.
Good luck dealing with them...

Title: DO NOT USE ADDRESS.COM!!!!!
Guest
Address.com is the worst. I have not used it for a couple years now and my computer is still infected with the ad virus that they have insert onto my pc. What they are doing should be illegal. We all should file a lawsuit against them for destroying our PCs.

If you tried uninstalling their program, your best now is to re-install your Windows98 and choose to delete all files.Back-up everything you want to keep.Drastic, but looks like this is your best hope.Good luck !

Title: Uninstall Address.com

Bruce -- it sounds like Add/Remove programs didn't get all of address.com and there are remnants still hanging around. Here's a link to registry backup & editing: http://www.freedomlist.com/forum/viewtopic...#00021562. Hopefully that will help. Good luck.

Title: DON'T USE IT!!!
bruce bailey Guest
Still have infections from this horrible isp that I removed one year ago. It is in the hard drive and controls any isp that I now use. It removed win98 files so now I get Illegal Op messages as I surf. I got a button mouse with hypergrid so I can bury the banner but when I go off Iexp. I have to shut down my 'puter before I can use WORD or anything else.
If you really need free get NET ZERO which is much better than if was last year. I used it when Accesscheap ran off and now I have Poetworld which gives you the choice of switching between UUNET and QUEST and with 200 hrs. for $7.50 mo is pretty cheap for a reliable isp.
Can anyone tell me how to uninstall the address.com "bad add" popup that still remains? Been trying for a year.

Once upon a time, there were many GOOD free ISP's, some with limited hours, banners and/or pop-up ads...but nothing like the far reaching tentacles of 'address.com'!!
