I am trying a free Index.dat cleaner called Spider 1.16. I does clean the 5 index.dat. I am running window 98 with Ie6. It worked ok My computer did have a register crash when I first try it, But may not have been the soft-wares fault.
I had one Index.dat file with 2+ meg in it so I started look for a way to clean them.
I find it works best if you clean your cookies, Temp file and history before you run it.
Not great but it's free.

| Lost, another easy option for 98...go over to Fred Langa's site (www.langa.com) and download Clean All. The program adds a right click option to the recycle bin that Says Clean All. When you select it, the program will boot into DOS clear out tons of stuff, including dat indices, check file systems, run scandisk and restart windows. I use this to clean up frequently. |
