So, on balance.... everybody is losing money by selling stuff to you. Can they make that up on volume??

Maybe they make it up over the long haul.

I purchased a satelitte dish on Ebay - paid $40.00. Dishnetwork was running a rebate deal - Free dish with one year programming.

I installed the dish and signed-up. Dishnetwork sent me a check for $199.00...

Did they make a bad deal?? Nope, I have their dish--their programming--and for the last three years they have had my yearly subscription fees.

Some months ago, Oldman, nee Windtalker, posted this information on the General Forum. I gave the contact information on one of the sites to someone from work who was having problems getting a rebate. Sure enough, the rebate arrived within a couple weeks!

1) Read rebate requirements before you buy the product or as soon as you buy the product to be sure you meet the eligibility requirements and you know the mail-in dates.

3) ALWAYS make good copies of everything you send in for a rebate.

4) Complete all information requested on rebate form in a legible hand writing. You may want to use all caps.

5) Provide all documents requested on the rebate form.

7) Call about your rebate if you do not receive it when it is due.

All I did was bring the information here from an old thread. The thanks go to Oldman/Windtalker. He put it all together a number of months ago.

It does not matter to me whether they make it up on volume or whatever. I look for good deals and make the most by combining available promotions. My annual yard sale is mostly my free after rebate and coupon stuff. (I have no use for 8 optical mice, 4 scanners, 1000's of CDR, telephones, surge protectors, highlighters, Peachtree Accounting software (6 copies), USB 2.0 PCI cards, keyboards,..........). I don't do E-Bay. I buy all this stuff with my GM Mastercard I also earn 5% of purhase as a credit towards a new GM vehicle.

This one seems like an excellent, inexpensive deal even without the rebate! Wow, you get 8 batteries altogether!

Importantly, does anyone know if the included AA and AAA rechargeable batteries are made of Ni-MH (Nickel Metal Hydride) and if so what mAh rating they have (such as 650, 700, 1600, 1800 mAh)? How long does it take to fully recharge these batteries? Is there a manufacturer's website for this product?

Thanks.

I have to recognize that Staples has dramatically improved in the timely manner they send rebates. As one person mentioned, one can get ahead in playing this shell game; this individual has claimed to "be $400 ahead." This is possible if you play your cards right, and follow procedures/terms/conditions of the programs that are being participated in. Therefore, this person can not be condemned for getting most for the dollar.

What I do have trouble with is how these retailers, especially Comp USA, Circuit City and Best Buy play their games of gimmicks and rebates in making the process of buying a large ticket item such as a computer an experience that makes hemerroids pleasant. Then these corporations wonder why computer sales are declining.

The reason so, is that consumers just want a set price for items that involves larger amounts of money. Not some stupid game that offers "free internet" if you buy this computer, or this "rebate" if you buy that model, and other gobblygook.

If a store wants say $1000 for a HP that has 2,53 GHz Intel 4 with 256 SDR RAM and 80GB Hard drive, and all the bells and whistles, it just should KISS [Keep It Simple Stupid...} the price as $1,000. Not this $1,500 minus $100 for this, minus $100 for that, etc all and minus another $300 because you brought it on the 4th Friday before a full moon, etc all.

The "rebate game" may NEVER die.
"High price minus rebate" is the same to the seller as a "lower net price". However, the high price makes "top line revenue" look better to Wall Street. (Plus the fact that some people don't get the rebate for one reason or another, adding to the bottom line.)
How Wall Street perceives the company [regardless of any deception] is all that really matters.

I just got my $30 rebate on my new Epson printer. It was $23 after rebate. My Stylus Color 640 stopped working after 7 years, so I ordered this new one. Just before I was going to set up the new one, I decided to "beat" the old one, including pulling the print head assembly back and forth. It made a terrible "gear slipping/stripping" noise, but it started working again! It still makes an awful noise when it prints, so considering its age, I will set up the new one when I run out of ink on the old one!

I don't know much about the Stylus Color 640, but a similar problem with a HP Deskjet was cured by cleaning the mylar tape and the slideways for the print head.

The dirt was causing the toothed "timing belt" to slip and make a sound similar to stripping gears.
