I installed Opera 9 beta with video acceleration. So far, way more stable than chrome, faster, smoother video. It launches far faster than previous Operas. All in all, the best version, I have tried of Opera in a while.

I usually use linux but at moment am using XP which I rarely take online. However my linux drive is broken waiting for a replacement and I am also experimenting with tethering to a smartphone.

I normally use Opera in linux so downloaded latest 12.00 for windows. Fine. Page loading errors galore. I blamed the limited tethering program DNS choices for the errors. Especially since Seamonkey did same.

However I needed to upgrade flash and silly flash installer insisted on installing Chrome 20.0.1132.47

I prefer Opera interface, but the Chrome browser is fast and I get lot fewer page loading errors. No idea why. but its welcome. Time will tell, still in process of getting a cell phone amplifier/repeater. And I will try other tethering programs. This one is limited to two DNS choices and the uncooperative webpages tend to hang on DNS lookup. Then Opera times out. Maybe thats it, Chrome maybe gives DNS process bit more time?

Soon as I work things out, its back to linux though. I tried it from live cd and tethering works with it too just fine. Might try linux version of Chrome, been long time since I tried it before. Really buggy back then.

Quick note on my experience:

srware iron is less annoying than Chrome. Faster.

Latest ff is pretty good- way faster and more stable than older version. They all seems to go through phases of speed and crashieness depending on version.

Problem is they all insist on auto updating. Opera can turn off, but doesn't seem to work. Chrome is worst for updater.exe

srware iron chromium doesn't auto update

Can always use your firewall to prevent browsers from connecting/communicating with their update sites. Its crude, but if you really like a particular version and dont want it butchered , I mean updated, then this strategy would work.
