Above I have listed a link to the grading of the MagicJack based on the Better Business Bureau's complaint list. They get an "F" and I am not surprised.

I received my MJ last week and it does not work. Not sure if they've sent me an old one or a new one.

I tried their live chat 5 times and finally got someone to tell me that it's not compatible with Verzion...yet there are blogs with people who have Verizon and their MJ is working perfectly fine.

I do believe much of the incompatibility issues are systems related and I had found one site in which this guy put the link for the company that sells USB ports stating in their online add that it will work with MJ.

The whole thing about limited outgoing phone calls sucks as they don't seem to advertise that when you purchase the phone...a 400 or 500 outgoing limit or something like that. I guess that's good if ALL of your calls are internationally made...you'd save a bundle.

The bbb link above gives a mailing address for them and I will be mailing mine back tomorrow certified mail.

I'll let you know if I get my refund right away or not.

I also was able to confirm their address via the Better Business Bureau's main serch page and as of today, 12/03/2008, they have a rating of an "F". So, if you haven't ordered it yet, I might tell you not to because so many people are having problems with the MJ, with getting their money back when returning the MJ and with MJ charging the $39.99 well before the 30 days period has expired. Not to mention the terrible service you get MOST of the time when using their "Live Chat".

Just wanted everyone to know that I received a full refund of the initial $19.99 Magic Jack took out and the $39.99 they took out after 30 days.

I am at least satified with that but wished their phone had worked for me.

Whats a complainters?

Anyways, its not FREE because you are paying a yearly service fee plus did you spend time reading the post? It says that MJ cuts off people who uses their service a lot meaning their unlimited isn't really unlimited but MJ won't say how much is unlimited. Skype atleast informed their customers that their unlimited is actually 10k minutes a month.

I have bought 3 Magic Jacks so far and referred 10 friends to it. I have no problems with using them, in fact, I take them overseas and make local US calls from there.

HOWEVER, dealing with them on the chat line is the most atrocious experience one can ever have. Over the past 10 weeks I wasted at least 20 hours chatting with several dozen totally incompetent agents, who wen tin circles but NEVER solved the problem. All I wanted to do is place an order and the system rejected it every time. None of the order were apparently accepted, although I received order confirmation and a billing on my credit card. it went so far that the Fraud Division of VISA contacted me about ten billings in the same amount in one day. Today, after 10 weeks of trying to extent me subscription, I was finally successful to place an order. Surprisingly or not, two of my friends whom I referred to Magic jack, have the same problem and are desperate to place an order for service renewal. If anyone wants to see, what one has to go through, sent me an e-mail and I forward to you the log of the 4 hours senseless chatting with them. It was a horrible expedience. I even wrote two letters of complaints to the CEO of MJ , but not surprisingly, never received a reply.

It does not work. This morning, I received a call from a friend, whom I had referred to M.J. he has the same problem. I have explained this so many times to several dozen M.J agents that I must have spent 15 hours on line chatting with them. There is no solution. I begged them to have someone call me explain the on-screen message that I get, but nobody will help me. When my current subscription expires, my service will be cut off and I have no choice but to throw the device away, as I can not renew the subscription. This cannot be solved by chatting with you for another 10 hours. Your order site simply does not accept order. Is there a way to solve this by calling in and give a credit card? Last November I had no les then 6 entries on my VISA card and the Fraud Division of VISA alerted me. All charges were dispute and never paid. There is somehting seriously wrong with your oder system. I have complained time and time again about this, but nothing is being done about it. Shame on Magic Jack to put their customers through this

A friend got one but you needed a super fast internet connection and it didn't work.He gave it to me to try and it worked,but I had to use a cable modem connection.It had 2 days for free then you had to pay.It stored the phone numbers of the calls I made.I lost my high speed connection,so the thing was useless.I tried to get into majicjack site to erase the stored numbers,but it wouldn't let me unless I registered.The friend wanted to return it to the store for his money back,but I wouldn't let him with my numbers stored.

This company is the worst on the internet (and there are plenty of bad ones).
Their service and chat are terrible.
Their web site is ridiculous as you can find nothing useful and all they want to do is sell you something else.
Why don't they just sell the thing for more money and stop nickel and dime everyone.
I have had the original for several years; then bought the plus for full price and two weeks later they send me an email with a special price that was half the full price.
They do not tell you the rules up front when you want to make a change as I wanted to transfer my number to the mj+ but after they charged my credit card, I found out it takes 10 days to do a transfer.
I do not know who I dislike more - the phone companies that charge to much for their service or this company that I really dislike their business practices.

If you are thiking about one, think again. Since January have purchased/replaced four. M J cannot get them to work right, calls cut in and out, totally useless. Nothing customer service tries works, and then they try to get me to try the magic jack plus, for more money. Why are these guys still in business!! Protest

And they have the nerve to charge per month for service! (Dont they charge something for it??)

I can think of several excellent FREE computer programs: AVG, Avast, AntiVir, MS Security Essentials, WinPatrol, SpywareBlaster, Gimp, Foxit, Malwarebytes, Puran Defrag, AppRemover and Revo Uninstaller to name a few I either used in the past or am currently using. (I moved up to the paid version on a few of these programs).

I've sort of used MagicJack to two-three years. The device never really worked well - the calls I've made or received would start fading out within a minute and I had to switch to my cell phone every time. The only reason I kept magicjack was because I could easily access my voicemail messages via my email or by calling my magicjack number.
So, I'd prepaid $59.95 for five years of "service" and thought I was all set. Not so fast, buddy! This June I got an email from Dan Borislow from a email address. It notified me that they've invented the magicjackPlus and would not be selling the original version of magicjack by the end of this year. OK... In this email they've offered me to upgrade to the new service for half price at $34.95 if I respond within 48 hours. OK, I did not... The email did not say anything about loosing my account or assigning my phone number to someone else right away or anything of this sort if I did not respond. After all, I still had two and a half years of the original plan I'd prepaid for.
My phone stopped ringing a while ago but I did not realize that they de-activated my account after the 48 hours have lapsed from the email notice. They immediately assigned my phone number to a new customer and I had no clue about it until today, when, out of a blue, I tried calling my own number and someone else answered the phone, to my surprise. I've contacted their customer service - the on-line chat - with Irish answering my inquiry. He or she was not helpful at all, not to mention that this person could not spell correctly or put proper sentences together. He/she told me that "the system recognized the inactivity in the account" and that's why it was de-activated. BS!!! I think they knew exactly what they were doing. They need to boost their profit margins and my account no longer suited them. They can get more money selling their MagicJackPlus for which I did not want to pay just yet.
So, I asked for a refund for the unused portion of the time they cheated me out of (two and a half years of service they did not provide). Irish said the refund was not possible and blamed the system for de-activating the account. So, the system screwed up, but a live person cannot make me whole? I think MagicJack is providing bad product to begin with and horrible service. They should not be in business.
