What are you doing to protect your privacy online?

Do you use Facebook and, if so, are your privacy settings locked down?

Do you use the check-in application on our smart phone?

I always refer to my often brought up Holy Triad of Internet safety: a good firewall, a good anti-virus program and, alas, a good spyware program. Big Grin Shiny LOL

Of course, data privacy is all a part of this. I'm so glad that this day has been designated but I realize, through the years, that people are still lax on the simple basics of protecting oneself from all the evil little gremlins (i.e. hackers, crackers, etc. etc. ad nauseuam) that creep and lurk out there.

When I use even webmail like Yahoo and Google Mail, there are settings that can, at least, enhance the privacy and data protection. All of them, it seems , have anti-virus programs that are supposed to scan the email before you get them. That's all good and well but one must have their own security programs even beyond that. You're so right! That said, at least in my opinion, one thing has changed since your  Holy Triad   advice in 2008. That is browser choice. At the time of your advice, IE7 was a significant improvement over IE6. Since then, however, IE is now on version 9, which has significant security enhancements ( Internet Explorer 9, Privacy and Security Enhancements .

Any thoughts about the privacy changes announced by Google? (One article:  Google tracks consumers’ online activities across products, and users can’t opt out - The Washington Post )
