OS = Windows 7 Starter

I mostly use Windows Media Player, but the few times the video does come up in Quicktime it is an an inch square in the middle of the screen.

How do I make it full size?

Only thing I can think of is to right click or drag the corners out.

Alas, tried that before and it didn't work.

Now the program is not even opening up. Maybe I'll just remove it and download Quicktime again.

I don't have win7 but there may be a way in Add/Remove programs (control panel) for doing a repair.

You can use VLC instead of Quicktime. If you do not want VLC to take over everything, when you install it, simply uncheck all but the quicktime items.

Do you use use larger fonts?

(Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display)

Some programs just do not resize well when you use anything but the default font size. If both are true here, then it is not unusual for the program to not display correctly. Quicktime is not that great of an application anyway, so nothing is lost if you remove it. Actually, you probably do gain something because Apple likes to launch some nonsense process if you have Quicktime installed.

I just went to the Control Panel and removed it. Funny thing is, when I clicked Remove it asked me if I wanted Quicktime to be able to update itself. When I clicked No it ended the uninstall, lol. What does a program about to be removed need with the ability to automatically update?

I clicked Remove again, the program told me it was configuring Quicktime, then it removed itself. Weird uninstall, but it's done now.

Then I downloaded Quicktime, and downloaded an .mov clip to test it on. It still does not fill the screen, but it is quite a bit larger. I find if I download the clip, click on the middle window it gets even larger, but still does not fill the screen. When I go to the top and click Edit-Full Screen, it finally goes full screen. Okay to use to once in a while, but I'll stick with wmv which goes full screen all the time.

Easy E:

Thanks for giving me directions in changing font size, (I changed them to Medium some time ago but then forgot how you change them Grin ). Changing the font size back to default did not affect the picture size for Quicktime. Worth a try, though, and it might work for different players.

I downloaded VLC a little while ago, didn't use it much, but then saw some discussion on the net about how maybe VLC is spyware. You have skills I don't-do you know that VLC is safe?

Also, if I wanted to alter the file associations for Windows Media Player, so that it plays some file types but not others, how would I do it? I might want Windows Media Player to play some file types, but have other players play other file types.

To change File Associations in Windows 7, open Control Panel > Control Panel Home > Default Programs > Set Associations. Select a file type in the list and click Change Program.

Alternatively, to change specific file association(s), right-click the file association you want to change. Select Properties > General tab > Type Of File > Change. From there, you will be presented with a list to choose from. If not listed, click Browse to navigate to the desired program.

I have VLC installed on several computers and neither Malwarebytes, or my av programs (AntiVir and MS Security Essentials) flag it as spyware.
When you install it, there is an option to allow VLC to go to the internet to get info on what you watch and play. I see No. There is also an option to allow it to check for updates. Again i say NO because I prefer to do the majority of updates manually.

It says this
Quote:
VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player
Open source means that ANYONE can view the underlying code. I'm sure that if it were truly spyware, there would be outcries all over the internet to stop using this player.
and this on the main page
Quote:
Completely Free, 0 Spyware, Ads or User Tracking

Here is the download for the source-code
 http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-sources.html
It is totally open, as mentioned previously for anyone to look at.

There is also a portable version for those who want nothing written to a computer. (I run this on one of my computers).

Much thanks to all who answered.

Corinne: I went to Control Panel-Programs instead of Control Panel-Home, but I got to the file associations anyway. Thanks for the tip.

Plodr: Much thanks for the info on VLC. Think I'll give it a try.
