Help please from anyone who has cracked the GMX settings.
I have used the set-up for my new gmx.com e-mail but it just won't work. Very disappointed as the interface looks great. However, attempting to set it up with Outlook seems to be a no-hope experience.
I have set it to pop.gmx.com and mail.gmx.com along with the other settings recommended by gmx. Outlook failed with the test message and when I try to send an e-mail using the gmx address as the default within outlook, I get the same old failure to communicate message. I've tried pop.gmx.co.uk and .net but nothing seems to work.
Any advice from anyone who has been here before and succeded would be much apprecieted. |

Really one of the best emails that I have ever used.
Your settings, agree to mine, are correct. My windows mail works perfectly. Some other settings: Make sure that under servers you check server requires authentication and remember password. Under advanced, your settings must conform to your own ISP. Check instructions on ports to use. I have ATT and my settings are outgoing 25, incoming 110. Some ISP, may block some ports, to avoid spam being sent from the ISP. In reality you are forced to send from your ISP, using the GMX address.
Do not use the port settings recommend by GMX, use settings recommend, by your ISP, for outgoing, this is most probably where you are having your problem.
BTW, welcome to Freedomlist, where your questions and input will always be welcome. _________________ Richard |

Hi,
I am using the port settings you suggest (default for my ISP) and yes I have checked all the advanced settings which are as you suggest.
I have also set my GMX address as my default so that also is not the problem.
After all this I still get a refusal to connect to my e-mail.
I very much appreciate you taking the time to help - Thanks!
Any other ideas?

What ISP, do you use? I will try and see what I could do.
In the meantime, here are all my settings: General, Check Synchronize
Servers
email user name:
Check remember password. Do not check, log on user authentication
If you are having a problem with outgoing but not incoming (which is it?)
you are probably using the wrong outgoing port (per your ISP)>
If you are set up the same as me, you should be OK, unless your ISP is giving different instructions.
Are you having trouble sending, receiving, or both? _________________ Richard

Hi Richc46,
My ISP is Orange and that works fine. However, I have been "spoofed" and can't stand going through all the "rubbish" I get. Orange haven't been all that helpful and getting any e-mail account that isn't WEB based seems an impossibility. I do prefer to use Outlook so here I am with GMX - but seem to have hit a pretty common problem having looked at other users who struggle with pop3.
Any help would be great.
Thanks in anticipation |

Under servers, put a check by my server require authentication, then go to settings. Make sure that you you check log on using, the GMX information, "not same as the settings on incoming mail server," then check remember password.
GMX requires different names, not .com etc, if you are in Europe.
Check all this out let me know. I bring this up, only because Orange seems to be in Europe.

You MUST establish an e-mail account with www.gmx.com in PA NOT GMX in Germany or UK!!
Your settings are wrong!! pop.gmx.com at port 110 and smtp.gmx.com at port 587. Apparently, you are using the German / UK settings so I beleive you have not established an American GMX e-mail account!! |

Hi richc46
Thanks for your help and advice.
My ISP is ORANGE in the UK. Incoming is set at Pop. 110 and the outgoing is set as smtp.587 (25 doesn't work at all) all other settings are as per recommendations but it appears that although I get green ticks throughout the account testing process in Outlook, I get a problem with sending the test message. then I get a complicated message when sending myself (another e-mail address) It all seems to work fine but I get a message from Outlook telling me that all sorts of problems sending and receiving from GMX but the e-mails somehow get through - ? errr sometimes ? |

I don't use Outlook so I can't help with any proper settings. Have you gone to the GMX forums and inquired? I've gone a few times to read and get help.
You may find some other Orange users there who know exactly how to tweak GMX mail for your ISP. |
