|
I have been looking for new antivirus protection, and came across SpyZooka - does anyone have any experience using this antivirus program, and if so what did you think of it? I was attracted to it for it's promise of 100% removal of all virus's, etc..

Thanks |

Hi, prettiefly. It is good to see you again. I hope you've been well.
Please let me know how you learned about SpyZooka. Was it from a friend, email, advertisement? The reason I ask is I wonder if you did a search on SpyZooka? If you had, I'm afraid you wouldn't find much -- only their pages. Just looking at the search results, their description is as an antispyware application, not antivirus.
Believe me, NO antivirus or antispyware application can guarantee 100% removal of all spyware.
A reputable company that has reportedly been in business since 2004 would have more than two Google page results.
Smacks of a rogue to me and I have an inquiry out on it.
If you are looking for a dependable, thorough antispyware application, I strongly encourage you to try Malwarebytes. It is available free for personal use and there is a subscription version with real-time protection that is excellent. MBAM frequently updates the definitions several times a day. See http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
If, on the other hand, you really are looking for an antivirus software, please let us know if it is a free solution or subscription you are looking for. _________________ Freedomlist.com (March 1, 2000 - 2013)

SpyZooka was on the rogue list, but was removed in 2005
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/de-listed.htm#spyzooka_note.
It is not possible to guarantee 100% removal of all spyware.
Any program that promises this you should be suspicious of. _________________

Thanks, Katana. (Coffee would have suggested searching the name rather than the url. ) _________________ Freedomlist.com (March 1, 2000 - 2013)

Thank you Corrine, it is good to be back for a visit - still goin' strong with Go Big West....As to SpyZilla, I was just searching around for something different/better than the usual norten, etc...I typed in 'best antivirus' and came up with spyzilla and a few others. I have a new computer that I have not hooked up to the internet yet and I really want to protect it (don't we all!). I am willing to pay for good antivirus, protecting my new computer is worth paying for to me.
Thanks Corrine and Katana for the info, I will continue my search.. |

I'm glad to know you're still doing well, prettiefly (and that you remembered how to get back here to FL after all this time ).
The following antivirus software programs are free for personal use:
avast! 4 Home Edition
Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic
As to pay antivirus software, my favorite is ESET NOD32.
Since your computer is new, if it is a Windows system with Windows Vista installed, I would suggest you start your search at the link below to "Windows Vista Compatible Firewalls" in my Windows Vista Bookmarks blog.

Corrine,
Getting back to FL was easy, I spent so much time here in the past that it still feels like home
On my new computer I chose to get it with Windows xp pro (it's a long story...), so do you have any info for that operating system? |

| I believe that all the Vista firewalls and anti-virus listed are as well XP compatible. There are still some that haven't upgraded to be Vista compatible. |

In my opinion, SpyZooker is a terrible program. It slowed my computer and did not
remove nearly 100% of my spyware.
They have a 100% removal guarantee.
I have emailed these people approximately 20 times and like the first
poster, I receive emails that are irrelevent to the query's I asked.
Since they cannot even remove 50% of my spyware I am demanding
my service canceled and my money back.
I'm happy, yet also slightly sad, to report that I am laid off from my job and I spend
hours upon hours on my PC daily.
With all this time on my hands, my soul purpose will be to use these hours to
alert anyone, anywhere, anyhow how, on any website how poor of a service I found
SpyZooka to be until my money is completely refunded.
Beware: People on sites praising the services of SpyZooka are possibly employees,
affiliates and other people who have a disreputal connection to SpyZooka somehow.
My words are carefully worded to avoid slander issues so please read into this what
you will. |

Welcome back, prettiefly :
I think that something more on the scale of Spybot, Spywareguard and Spywareblaster would do better than this Spyzooka.
Like Katana said earlier, it was on a rogue list.
My Holy Triad of Protection should still hold up:
1. a good anti-virus program--e.g. Avast, AVG, AntiVir
2. a good firewall--e.g. Kerio, Zone Alarm and Comodo
3. a good ant-spyware program--e.g. Spybot, Spywareguard and Spywareblaster
And, of course, a good preferably non-IE browser like Opera, Firefox and Safari.
Since you got a new computer, this would be a good place to start.
And of course, we cannot forget WinPatrol--little Scottie, that little marvel from BillP.
