I read that new ubuntu will be able to install as a file to a windows partition. Puppy has been able to do this for long time, but since Ubuntu is more widely known and popular, it will let lot more people try linux who didnt want to mess with partitions and formatting yet wanted more than a live cd.

Yes, the 8.04 version will let try before you buy, that's right (I FORGOT IT'S ALWAYS FREE) in windows.

This is only for test purposes and not recommended for extended use.

I went ahead and loaded the 8,04 LTS RC update today. After review with less than 48 hours, I would say this is the final. It will update to final after the 24th anyway. I downlaoded the complete package in 1 hour and created a disk. I actually used the online upgrade, it took more than 8 hours. This is on a broadband connection. I figure it was worth the time to keep from reconfiguring the whole layout again. On the 24th you can get the final release.

I expect the servers will be even busier then.

Firefox 3.b5 is faster, not yet sure how well I'll like though.

Well the final release is officially on distribution today. As I suspected it was finished and I did get the final LTS download, not release candidate.

I've already pretty much have this one tweaked out.
