Given that Freedomlist is open for anyone to say anything about anything (within reason), it would be nice to have a few more categories, and the ability to block from view, if the member so desires, certain categories when doing a search or "viewing posts since last visit".
I'd like to see categories for "Religion" and "Politics" so I could block them and wouldn't have to wade through those titles when viewing posts since my last visit. I joined Freedomlist for computer related stuff, and while I wouldn't want to force my desire for technical related stuff only on the dedicated administrators of Freedomlist, I don't care for the many titles of non-technical rantings jammed in my eyeballs when the list of new posts pops up. The ability to block from view such posts would be a welcome change.

| Considering the nature of a lot of the "pending" posts recently, perhaps we should also have an "opt-in" catagory for spam. Only a new usergroup called "Valium Addicts & Other Druggies" would have access. |

How would you know that if you want to walk down a narrow path??

To avoid those who scream in bold text and don't read my original post
"I joined Freedomlist for computer related stuff".
Unlike many, the computer is not my entire universe. I don't go to a grocery store to buy automobiles. If I want to buy a car, I go to a car dealer. I go to a grocery store to buy groceries. I go to Freedomlist for stuff related to computers and computer security, ISPs, software. Freedomlist is becoming too much of a rallying point for anyone with a cause. |

Lena, I know for a fact this is a valid concern of many here.
Currently, the posts that are here stay because they follow the rules, regardless of the content.
Best advice I can think of is if the topic of the thread looks like something you're not interested in, don't open the thread. If you're reading a thread that's unrelated to religion/politics/etc. but starts leaning that direction, either hit the "back" button or post something pertaining to the subject, just not on that angle. _________________ Poetworld subscriber 2002-2012.

And how sweet it was when I returned from an extended weekend with the better half to find that registration is now required to post on Freedomlist.
We were discussing, as we drove to the mountains in Western Maryland, how Freedomlist has changed over the years, from a forum with a lot of helpful information regarding ISPs, software and computer problems, to a free-for-all forum where anything goes. I really felt it was time for me to quietly pull the plug on Freedomlist but I'm glad I took one more look before hitting the delete button on my list of Favorites. Perhaps now things will settle down once posters are required to register.
There are enough forums on the web, moderated and unmoderated, on every topic imaginable. Why should Freedomlisters be subject to the rantings of everyone in the world with a computer?
I congratulate the administrators of Freedomlist for taking this bold step in requiring registration. Thank you, thank you, thank you! |

You're welcome, Lena. The spam just became too much to deal with. However, as I've seen at numerous sites, registration won't prevent off-topic posts or off-the-wall posts. The quality, variety and information presented and responded to is still in the hands of the posters. _________________ Freedomlist.com (March 1, 2000 - 2013)
