While I'm in the Santa Claus mode, I'm offering a free copy of Knoppix OS to the first person who asks (It's already free on the internet but it is a very large download) Send me PM with mailing instructions. I'll pay shipping to any USA destination (or anywhere in the world as long as it doesn't cost more than a few dollars - I am frugal you know Big Grin )

Happy Holidays

I'm surprised and disappointed there are no takers on my free offer. This is a really cool linux distribution that boots directly from the CD. Just pop it in and turn on the computer - that's it. There is no setup or installation. Nothing gets written to your hard drive unless you change the settings. Easy and safe and fun. I would recommend at 256 MB+ since it uses a large ram disk, but other than that it would work on most computers. Shiny

First PM gets it.

I would offer to take it but that would be unfair to all on dial up, as I have a 5 Mbit cable connection - so I can D/L just as easily...

Great post/thinking. If you have highspeed or can get the CD easily from elsewhere then ignore this.

Vijay Thumb Up

You know, I made that offer in December 2003 and I didn't notice that this thread had resurfaced until today! Nobody ever took me up on the offer and I've still got an extra Knoppix CD I'd be happy to mail to someone. Like Johngalt says, please only take this if you don't have broadband already. Maybe we can get our own "Pay it Forward" going, and the recipient can reciprocate by making the same offer. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, go get the DVD down at your local Block Buster).

Same deal applies. I'll send it to the first person to send me a PM with their address. I'll take care of the shipping to USA or Canada (or elsewhere if it doesn't cost too much).

I think 3.4? For the fun of it I am downloading the latest edition 3.8.2 so I'll offer either one.

These distros can be purchased for about $4 + $3 shipping.  http://linuxcentral.com/catalog/?prod_code...Vf1i9QaKCc

Thanks for the response again. Once you download and burn the CD, can you check and see if Knoppix 3.8.2 has any E-Book readers other than adobe ?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know too much about ebook readers. V3.8.2 has a program called Kghostview (PS/PDF Viewer). Maybe there is something else that might interest you too. Alot of the programs are hidden deep in the menu tree so it wouldn't surprise me. I'm amazed at how many programs are included on a single CD. If you want the new Knoppix, send me a PM.

I tried the program Kghostview, that doesn't work for text readers. I have a slightly older Version of Knoppix. Besides, I am very good at settingup my PC for long downloads. In little over a weekend I can get the latest Knoppix if I wanted. However, I don't feel like upgrading now. Thank you for your offer. I feel it is best that some newbie notices and takes advantage of your offer.
