1. Launch FF(v1) and type about:config in the address bar
2. right-click anywhere in the window and select NEW->Integer
3. type in browser.cache.memory.capacity and click ok
4. type in 16000 and click ok

The above value represents 16MB of RAM. For some unknown reason, the default in v1 is 51MB! I've done this tweak on my 98SE, ME, and 2K computers and it is working fine.
