Title: Senior Globe does a good job
|
I found Senior Globe in October, 2001 on the old Freedom List rating done by "Dr. Chaps". As a non-technical person, I needed to be led one step at a time. Back then, there were only a few ISPs that would let you pay by personal check, a benefit to me.
Prices have increased, but not that much. I use their $12.95 plan which provides excellent customer service over and above the Senior Globe realm. This provides 24/7 phone(if needed) or email response. They have a $9.95 plan, you'll have to visit their web site to see what services that covers. Am not too sure if they have a join fee. You do not have to be a "senior citizen" to sign up for their service.
Rarely am I cut off if I happen to read a long article(maybe once/twice in 4 years. Speed? My computer runs slow due to 'age', so I can not place any blame on Sr. Globe. I can visit my friends, review books, movies, get TV listings, weather - check out the latest reports on the politics of the day - and so much more.
What prompted me to write this, I was looking to see about PeoplePC, they advertise at a great price, but after reading the reviews, I'll forget about changing from Senior Globe. They have served me far too well to search a change for a few dollars.

SeniorGlobe is a great ISP. I have been using them for close to 2 years now. 800#s for both Tech Support and Customer Service plus email support as well. Well worth checking out.
And they just recently rolled the price back to $9.95 a month John. ;) How many ISP's have you heard of that has done that ?

I've been with them for close to a year. Tech support is via 888 number and is pretty good. Yeah, their webpage is lacking in design features but what does it matter what their webpages look like, you won't be using them anyway once you're online. I have been having probs with Quest network and they are very willing to let me switch at the end of my billling cycle, which makes sense. As a generic comment, if you have problems with a certain dial up number, its the network's fault, not the isp. If you use less than 150 hours/month I'd say steer clear from the Quest network in general. Also have to say that in addition to the 888 tech support they offer support via email which in the three or so ocassions I have written was answered within hours, not days. I was ticked when they went from 9.99 to 11.99 but oh well, its only 2 bucks a month.

Title: Decide
|
|
Lets See Guest
I have had seniorglobe since Dec. 2001 . This is Feb
2002 . I love the fact you can call tech support 24-7
thats wonderful , but sometimes I have had it be very
slow connection and days at a time. This has been very
frustarting for me because I am a high user of the net .
You decide if its worth having for the price ? Happy
surfing !?

Title: s-globe isn''t a good deal here in PA
|
|
dan Guest
They have the slowest network backbone they use here
with very poor connecctions--lots of drops.
Then they blame it on my line which worked fine when I
had the 4.95 plan from at&t which is no longer an option.
Also, my line is less than one year old and I am within 4
blocks of a regional Verizon center.
Also, they refused to give me another reliable backbone
choice without charging me and basically took the f.-
you attitude towards my problems with their service.
Steer clear of this outfit!

Title: 5 stars

Chuck Guest
After going the freebie route since 1999 and suffering the many disconnects & busy numbers, I decided to break \"free\" from all the hassles.
Seniorglobe is straightforward in their approach to internet service and the results show.
Keep it cranking SENIORGLOBE, we need resonable alternatives in this crazy world we live in!!

Simple sign up. Dependable and fast UUNET backbone.
Reasonable price. No software. No pop-ups. No
banner. I can surf the world. So someone tell me
again why I should pay more than twice the price for
AOL, MSN, Earthlink, etc..... Not this guy!

Title: Seniorglobe
|
|
A Simple Man Guest
After prior experience with AOL, MSN and Earthlink, I
finally got tired of paying >$20/month. I have no
complaints. The service is just what I want in an
ISP - internet service and email. I paid a one-time
fee ($10 I think) for a POP3 account, and I now use MS
Outlook for email. About the only thing I don''t get
is the daily update on Brittny Spears that AOL
provided.
Oh well.

Title: Read the instructions

If \"Laststop\" had read the plain instructions on the sign up form, he wouldn''t have charged himself twice on his credit card. This ISP is like flying coach, but it gets you there -- fast, comfortably, and cheap. Cudos to SeniorGlobe.

If you have Outlook Express, I suggest you try Hotmail for your backup e-mail server. Very dependable, can access through their website (www.hotmail.com) or OE. (It is HTML, not POP3)

Title: SeniorGlobe is Great!
|
|
Lea Guest
Signing up with SeniorGlobe was the easiest transaction I have experienced in the past 13 years and 7 ISPs. Their web pages are rather bland but all \"help pages\" are written so that even those with very limited computer/internet skills can problem solve on their own.
Regarding the 150 hour/mo limit...how many people actually use the net more than that OR stay on for more than 5 continuous hours?
I highly recommend this ISP to not only Seniors, but to newbies or anyone without \"high computer savvy\".

Title: SMTP Lock-In
|
|
Wildhack Guest
SeniorGlobe locks you in to their SMTP. You cannot send mail thru any other SMTP which you have legal access to (say, NetIdentity, or Mail.Com, or any of the free POP email services which have SMTP). If their mail server goes down, you do not have the use of another SMTP for backup. They do this because \"in an effort to reduce spam, we block other smtps.\" This is user-surly to the customer who wants an alternative route to send email during the occasional mail-server downtime.

Title: New Setup Fee Disqualifies for Listing Here
|
|
an_sg_user Guest
With their imposition of the $7.50 setup fee they now are disqualified from listing here since it now costs $126.90 for the first year. But it is too "political" to drop them so they won't be dropped (I bet).
But any new service trying to qualify for listing here would be refused listing... so it seems the strategy to use is to "lowball" the price to get listed here and then to raise the price.
That is unless the webmaster starts enforcing the rules.

Title: Hard To Believe
|
|
SoxFan Guest
Its hard for me to believe the post above. SeniorGlobe walked me through every step of the set up process on the phone. I e-mailed their support and they called me that evening. I found out that this is a family run business and the way they have treated me, I feel like Im a part of their online family. This is a good, solid group to work with.
