I also highly recommend Lavasoft's 'ad-aware' program. It not only gets rid of those nasty spyware devils lurking around in your system, but it's FREE!! I only wish I had known about it back then...

Title: Virus is right!!
|
|
luckylouise Guest
I never even got it fully installed, never used the service, and yet it was so embedded in my system that I could not fully get rid of it. (at that time they had you install their software before you even knew if there was an access # in your area) I tried to contact them via email as to how to uninstall and never got a response.
The only way out was when I upgraded from Win 98 to ME, but even then it came back to haunt me...they still keep sending emails to me, even after I had supposedly been 'unsubscribed' (although I never was a subscriber in the 1st place). Huh??
STAY AWAY FROM 'address.com' !!!

Title: Warning - take preventive action
|
|
David Guest
Address.com is a royal pain in the butt. It infects your
computer much like as virus. First off it installs spyware
on your reistry and monitors your internet use. I used
address.com as a back up when I reached my 10 hr.
limit with Netzero. Even when you go through another
ISP it still routes all your internet surfing through its
server. If you''re a computer wiz or brave enough to
install address.com, pre-load AD-Aware 5.63 from
lavasoft @ lavasoftusa.com, it''s free and will remove
the spy ware. Address.com blocks most virus detection
and ad stop sites! I ponied up and purchased Netzero
for $9.95/mon.

Title: ***!!
|
|
Desiree Guest
I agree w/ several of the other reviews. I tried several
times to install and my computer kept locking up at 65
%. I tried to get out to the internet to get customer
support and the computer kept shutting down. I was
finally able to get to the internet thru juno after deleting
from the computer. I don''t believe I''ve had problems
(yet) deleting, as the file was never fully installed.

Title: ADDRESS.COM ISN''T SO GREAT
|
|
ELISSA Guest
I signed up for address.com''s free service about 6
months ago. I know that when you''re getting free
internet, it''s not like the paid kind, but this is ridiculous!
For about the first month it was good - hardly any ad
pop-ups, reliable email, good speeds. Then all-of-a
sudden in the 2nd month, things got bad. My
connection speeds go way slower, sometimes I couldn''t
access my email, there seemed to be nothing BUT pop-
up ads to close before I could continue surfing, etc.
What was worse, when I tried to contact their customer
support, the line was busy!!! This has continued for the
past 4 months, and I''m getting really annoyed.
Needless to say, I am looking for a more reliable ISP -
even if I have to pay a few bucks for it. But I won''t pay
$20+/mo - that''s a rip-off!

I signed and never got connected to internet through address. Just
waste of time. It also looks to me that they want a lot from
subscribers. I would like to pay for my internet service after the
experience with address.

Title: Prepare for Mass Disconnection
|
|
Jei Guest
This wonker disconnects about every five minutes, and
will do so as long as you aren''t surfing, like a madman.
They also force you to use Internet Explorer, and if you
close the IE window, it will disconnect. If you try using
Netscape, it wil disconnect. If you get up, to do
something important, like answering a call of nature, it
will disconnect. This isn''t an Internet Service Provider,
is an Internet Disconnection Service Provider.
I say pay the 5 or ten bucks for a vanilla dialup service,
and avoid the hassle, after all, you DO get what you
pay for.

Title: Not True
|
|
Tom Guest
I''ve had some good ones and really bad ones, like
Address.com. But the best I''ve ever had is Qualguard.
It''s better than those you seem to like to pay through
the nose for, such as AOL and MSN. I''ve used them
both. Qualguard is simply better and I don''t pay for it.
Your lesson: seek and ye shall find. And thanks be to
freedomlist for their wonderful service.

Title: Getting the crap \"address\" of ur machine
|
|
Sam Norris Guest
I sympathize with those who had a problem getting this
thing off the system. No the uninstall wizard doesn''t get
rid of it. You must pay attention to where you down-
loaded it and after uninstall you have to go to where you
put it on your machine and right click and go down and
delete it or it won''t get off. I couldn''t get connected
after I downloaded and the helpdesk said \"this isn''t
working in some areas\". Don''t waste your time especially
if your the type of person that gets upset when lied to,
or if a product doesn''t work as advertised. If you are a
masochist....this will be a joyful experience for you!

Title: Agree with above.

KC Guest
Agree. I signed up because they had a bunch of
numbers listed under the free service for my area.
Then I never got to sign on because there really were
none. After uninstall, still come up as my homepage
even though I''ve changed it a million times and pop
ups
come to me constantly. I NEVER got to use the service
and I''m still suffering from it.

Title: DON,T INSTALL THIS CRAP ON YOUR COMPUTER!
|
|
Will Guest
This program is bad for your computer. It will not
uninstall, using their uninstall program, (more lies).
They tricked me into installing their software by listing a
dialup access number for my hometown. Once I
installed the program and tried to setup the dialer,
there were no local phone numbers in the Phonebook
property of the dialer. Uninstalling the software did not
get rid of it. BEWARE, these guys are not to be
trusted! Further they won,t help you get their crap
(contant popups) off of your machine.

Title: Instructions to remove their webpage
|
|
computer nerd Guest
i''m assuming they make your homepage their website,
and probably still does that after you change it.
Start/Run.../regedit (i think)
Edit/Find..
Search for the domain it goes to, and delete that
registry key, then hit F3 to \"Find Again\" and delete any
others that have that domain, or anything related to it,
just be careful not to delete anything important.
This will also work for other websites that alter your
registry, causing webpages to pop up out of the blue....
There''s no such thing as a totally free isp...not in
america at least. if there is, it''ll go under, like all the
others, or get bought out. somebody has to pay the bill.
