Thanks Guys,
I was about to install it until I saw their email about what it does to your browser. I thought maybe I could default it to Opera5, but that won't work. Seems to me their trying to be like Juno. Thanks for the warning.

Post  Title: Outrageous Takeover.

I wanted to get address, com ISP as a backup ISP. Boy did I regret it.
What I found most outrageous is that their pesky ADS will KEEP POPPING up every too often on your IExplorer (5.5 in this case)EVEN WHEN NOT USING Address.com ISP at all. It not only becomes your home page, it also becomes your default search page. And disable many security controls. Also its Uninstall did not properly clean up after itself and did not reset all alterations that had been made. I had to manually hunt for all the bugs it left behind.

Post  Title: Auto-Disconnect

Yes, Spinway disconnects me after about 30 minutes to an hour of use. I recently befriended a person who does some techwork for bluelight.com from time to time (which if memory serves me correctly is powered by spinway) and he said the following after I commented about getting disc'ed so often:

"Yes, their internet service ***. They do have an auto-disconnect."

He then added sarcastically:

"But they are working on it".

I tried address.com and boy was that a mistake ! As a result of the software you have to install, now and then I get error 404 messages that it cannot find a site and redirects me to address.com's site eventhough I removed address.com completely from my computer ! I guess they included some sort of virus. I tried removing and reloading netscape and my other isp but to no avail. Now I have trouble finding something simple like HOTMAIL !!!
STAY AWAY FROM ADDRESS.COM

I signed up in Dec. 00, and have not yet been able to sign on. They sent an email stating they were having problems with authentication, and to please be patient. As of Jan. 22, there is no improvement

Commercial webvertisement, indeed! At least on TV they only occur every 15-20 minutes or so, not every THREE!!! If you launch a new window..an ad. If you click on their ad...an ad. If you click on a link...an ad. If you DON'T click on a link...an ad.

BTW...all these ads? You can't operater around them. If you're redirecting to another location, they grab the URL, launch their ad, make you sit through their ad for 8 seconds, then make you click a "continue" button to clear the page, THEN it redirects to the original URL.

Gettme outta there!!!

well, I downloaded address.com and I cannot get it to connect to the internet at all using its own dialer....it uses my bellsouth.net dialer instead...well, duh, I guess it is not going to be in business very much longer....I can get the homepage to come up but as for its own dialer and all it just keeps saying that it cannot connect please check connections....so I am thinking about this one and using my bellsouth.net instead.

this was on my address.com homepage:The free internet service you have been receiving through One Ramp, NBCi, Address.com, NetTaxi.com or OurHouse.net will no longer be available effective Monday, December 4th. You can continue to enjoy free internet service by going to  www.bluelight.com/freeinternet  and registering for BlueLight.com's Totally Free Internet service. You will be given a new Yahoo! email address that will allow you to take full advantage of both Yahoo! and BlueLight.com's free member services.
5 down in one shot, what's next?

Post  Title: Spinway drops Canada

Joe
Guest
Up here in Canada we were having the same problem being disconnected. Final result was that they dropped access to Canada. What really gets me is that they never notified canadian customers about this. If Americans keep having the same problem being disconnected, it could be because they're about to go belly up like so many other ISPs have been doing lately.

Address.com/Spinway has been doing that since a lot of people are signing up for there service and the connections are getting busy because of the Holidays coming up. A lot of users are going on line ordering online and they just want to give other poeple the chance to get connected. Got the info from a inside source( buddy that works for address.com in S.Cal).

Same problem in S. Cal. Been experiencing the same problem with 1stUp, which by the way, is being sold by CMGI. There may only be two free ISPs after next year, Juno and Netzero.

Lack of access is the first warning sign of bankruptcy.

lately i have been having serious problems staying connected to address.com.after about 30 min,i get disconnected for no apparrent reason.i have had the same problems with blue light as well,so it must be a problem with spinway.this is really frustrating, since i use spinway isp's for napster downloads.

Post  Title: Auto disconnect?

Sutandiono
Guest
I've been using address.com for some time, and i think it's comparable to other free isps.... however these few days i think the service auto disconnect after some time (i was not idling or anything). i checked my dialup setting, everything is fine. other dialup that i use is working fine without auto-disc, so i'm sure it's not my modem. anybody has the same problem?
