Post  Title: connection

I used dialup4less for about 6 months and gave up finally. We couldn't stay connected for any length of time and would get booted anytime we tried to download anything. One month we were late paying our bill and we got a rude phone call from a lady that asked us if we planned on paying the bill or did she need to disconnect us. The tech support man however was very helpful and friendly.

I have had nothing but problems from this company. Last night was the peak of those troubles. Let me start out by saying that if you want a dialup account in which you constantly need to change to a different phone number to connect to (because your connection keeps getting dropped on the previous number), this is the service for you! Otherwise, there are better options out there.

The events that happened last night concerning this company PROVE to me that they are shady and not as big as they like to pretend to be. When you call their support number you will likely get "Ron" or his "boss", Darrell. BOTH are complete jerks and their penchant for starting confrontations seems to make them better suited as credit card collectors. I suppose they like to argue about anything just to get you pissed off so that they don't actually have to do any technical support.

Yesterday I had called to find out why the different numbers I was connecting to weren't working. I'd connect, then immediately my connection would be killed. "Ron" asked me for the "exit error", but when I told him that I was using Linux and that I'd need to verbalize word for word what my screen output was saying, he became argumentative and said "hey! I'm trying to help you out here!" and when I mentioned to him that I was give him the best information I could if he would just let me talk, he then said "I wish you would". As we were about to disconnect I asked him whether I should call back to find out what they had come up with (about why my connection numbers weren't working, right), or if he would be calling me he said "I have your number". About two hours later, Ron had not called back. How's THAT for lovely customer service? Makes you scratch your head, doesn't it?

I really can't stand bad customer service, and ESPECIALLY not customer service that treats the customer like he is dirt. ESPECIALLY when I am paying THEM. Oh, did I mention that "Ron" was spouting off about how "over 95% of the ISP's out there don't offer free technical support"? LOL! You see, in this day and age it's not about providing a quality product. Quality often means it will be some time before the customer will be back to buy again. Today it's all about saving the money .... cough .... that would have been spent on creating a quality product and using that money to set up lovely "technical support" and "sales support". Good grief, Charlie Brown!

After calling Ron back and eventually getting upset with him over the way he had treated me in the first call, he started rambling on and on about how it takes 2-4 hours to check out every number in the state of Kentucky to make sure they are all working (YEAH, RIGHT).....yet he had no explanation about why he never bothered to communicate that to me in the first call. At this point I told Ron that they weren't providing a good service and that I would not have good things to say about them on the Internet. I hung up.

Later, "Darrell" called and was leaving a message when I picked up the phone halfway through and attempted to talk to him. Instead of working to resolve the matter, he immediately began jabbering on about how he was Ron's boss and that "adults don't hang up on each other". I then told him that "adults also are able to hold a civil conversation without raising his voices", and I hung up.

After that I decided to try again to connect to the Internet, and THIS time I was able to move further along in the process as now I was getting to the point in the connection process where my machine (Linux) would submit my account password. I kept getting "bad password" errors so I knew that Dialup4less had turned off my account. Immediately I called them up and "Darrell" answered the phone and I asked him why I was getting bad password errors and he said "Your account is due to expire in two days", and I told him that I had already paid for the service so they needed to turn my account back on. I hung up. After still not being able to connect to the different connection numbers because I was getting "bad password" errors I called up Darrell and told him "You can pay me for the two days that you took away my service", and hung up. A day later I am not able to connect using that account.

STAY AWAY from Dialup4less. They are shady and anytime you call about a service issue they will try anything and everything possible to show that it is YOUR problem, not their's. BAD COMPANY!

yes, dialup4less supports linux, but so do other ISPs like frys.com... and since dialup4less refuses to stop double-billing me even though i already canceled my service, i HIGHLY recommend against them.

dialup4less is great. it never goes down, it supports linux, and dialup4less never fills your mail box with ads. Pay them and they leave you alone.
