Post  Title: dialup.cc raises rates - SEE YA!

a_houstonian

Well, I should have seen this coming, dialup.cc has gone from $4.94 a month to $7.99. I already have SBC DSL and was keeping dialup.cc since I do have a couple of computers still on dialup. It doesn't make sense for me to pay $8 a month when I also have dialup included with my sbc/dsl package, so I guess we'll be parting. It's like mailaka.net all over again.

In fairness, dialup.cc has been good to me, good service, very few problems the last couple of years. Even at $7.99 it's still a good deal IMHO now that they've added 25 mb web space.

A friend I referred a few blocks away who has also been happy with dialup.cc will be switching to all2ez.

Oh well, a buck is a buck.

adios dialup.cc / wirestar, best wishes

I've been a dialup.cc customer for almost 2 years and have never had all that good of service. Repeatedly they would accidentally disable my prepaid account, and once a techy switched my service to a different isp, at $20/mo, and I had to contact the dialup.cc owner directly. to get enrolled w/ dialup.cc

Now dialup.cc has changed owners and raised rates to almost double w/ no notification at all!
And voided my 2-year prepaid CONTRACT by "converting" it to a $7.99/month "agreement" and billing against my prepaid amounts.

With no notice to me at all.

Post  Title: Dialup.cc still good for me after 2 years

Hi everybody. Been with dialup.cc for 2 years now, or maybe it's 3 years??? Well, since their beginning -they've been real good.

I'm sure most everyone is aware by now that they have been bought by wirestar Inc, and from what I've seen so far, they're committed to making the transition as seamless and painless as possible.

Although I've had DSL for a few months now (yahoo/SBC) and use it most of the time on two of my main computers, I still have 3 or 4 other computers in the house that are still 56K dialup and so I've kept dialup.cc since those machines are still set up for it, and it's only $4.95 a month. It doesn't hurt that dialup.cc has been rock solid either!

I pay by sending in a check/money order every couple of months, as I dislike the idea of automatic bank drafts. I called dialup.cc/wirestar's customer service to make sure I could continue payments the same way I always had, and if I should mail my payments to the same address.

I was connected to "Pierre", who was extremely courteous, conscientious, and determined to take his time and check with supervisors/co-workers to answer my questions.

The long and short of it is that everything stays the same, at least for now, with the exception that SMTP must be authenticated, but the pop3 and smtp servers stay the same, and I continue to use the same DNS servers that have always worked for me, and I continue to send in my checks to the same address in the same fashion.

I'm always a little nervous when companies make changes and "improvements". I was with mailaka ISP for quite some time and they made a couple of minor 'improvements' and after 3 or 4 years of paying $5.95 a month, they jacked up their price to $10.00 a month, which is when I switched to dialup.cc and been quite happy ever since.

So, we'll take a wait and see attitude with what happens with the wirestar transition.

I think it's been posted elsewhere, but there is a page about the changes at:

 http://www.dialup.cc/improvements.php

peace out

switch to LINUX
close the WINDOWS and keep the internet OPEN!

Hey Guys: I have been with Dialup.cc for 2 and 1/2 Months. As the dude below, from Cleveland has said- The Business Office is the best part of this I.S.P., I.M.H.O. VERY good at managing the Account, and the Financial aspects. VERY Economical. Connectivity and Local Phone Numbers... No Problem. And;
I usually get a 52,500 kb/sec. Connection Dialup, for my Win 2000 Pro. Op. System. Again no problem. BUT !! Their Real Problem is Service and I.S.P. dependability; with the Mailers- such as Outlook Express or Outlook, or any of your other similar E-mail Inboxes/Outboxes. It is usually O.K.; however- as an example, over the Past 2 1/2 weeks. I have gone from: only being able to Receive E-mails and Surf-with No Sending ability. They DO have their Online Web Mail as their Failsafe mailer, while Repairs/Tweaks are being made; however- Be Advised. If you are used to AOL or Earthlink; you WILL notice a difference. It's all what you can get used to. (c;} Get it ? Hope my 2 cents helped. Later Freedom List dudes.

I've had Dialup.CC for just two weeks, and although I was skeptical about the service since they only have one number in my city, the connection and service has been outstanding! Certainly an improvement over VTISP (Access the Net)! It's inexpensive and the signup procedure was flawless.

I, too, had problems like this with isp's but it was/is a telephone line problem. Recently the phone company has been upgrading to DSL and my dialup speeds have increased so I'd advise that you have the phone company check the line quality (even though they don't always admit to a problem). I was only getting 36.0kbps until recently when they started upgrading and my speed increased to 44kbps. Even then, I had problems getting consistent connections at 44 until I switched modems to a used one (the 3rd modem I've tried). The "new" used modem dials, negotiates and connects faster than the other 2 which I'd purchased brand new!

After trying several isp's, even a higher priced local/national provider my speed increased to 44kbps which is the best I've had in over 2 years (I've never connected faster than 48kbps since I've been on the net)! I found out that the phone company was upgrading which accounted for the better speed so I dropped the high priced isp and gave Dialup.cc a try and have been getting consistently good connection speeds over the one month I've been with the service (even though I'm back on Level3). I'll admit that I was reluctant to try Dialup.cc because of the Level3 problems I'd had with another isp and for the constant drumbeating and praising of their services here on FL. I know that if I'd tried them a few months ago, because of my phone line quality, I couldn't have given them a good review but I have encountered no problems whatsoever with this isp. If you're looking to save a few $'s each month and are online more hours than the "other" isp offers, give Dialup.cc a try. The only minor problem I've noticed is that a couple times the pop3 email didn't seem to be working but after a few minutes I tried again it worked fine. Not enough of an inconvenience to even complain about! Though my credit card has only been billed twice - there has been no problem so no complaints there at all!

It's only been 1 month for me but it's been a quality month and if the service keeps perfoming as is has over the past 30 days, I'll be with them for quite awhile!! Thumb Up

Both  www.dialup.cc  and  www.all2ez.net  are very good ISPs. The speed issue is usually local phone line issue. It is possible one "backbone" netnwork may be "better" in certain areas than others. However, 36.0 is not good when the majority of dialup users connect at 49.9 - 52.0 which is the result the quality of the phone line.

I almost always get 49.9 - 52.0 in Northern New Jersey with BOTH of these ISPs!!

I am located in Northern California (Area Code 530). Dialup.cc has 3 local phone numbers. All 3 numbers have similar problems:

POOR connect speeds!! I often need to re-dial SEVERAL times in order to get a connect speed greater than 19.2kpbs. Then it is typically 36.0kbps (which is satisfactory).

Even when connected at 36.0kbps, the observed speed will deteriorate to about 19.2kbps after about 20 minutes, and remain there until I reconnect. Sorta like it is being throttled somehow. Ticks me off!!!

This is in contrast to All2EZ dialup. All2EZ also has 3 local dialup numbers, but I always connect at a reasonable speed (~36.0kbps), and I NEVER see the throttling that occurs with Dialup.cc. (All2EZ has a 200hr/month limit.)

I'd complain to the dialup.cc Help Desk, but they no longer accept email (what's that about??), and I don't want to deal with their "American" tech support via telephone...

I'll tell you what Freedomlisters- I agree with NE_guy as well. I have been with about four (4) I.S.P.'s since I got my first Win 95 Computer in 1995. It came New, out of the box, that Christmas morning. (c;}
ALL the I.S.P.'s I have used, along the way, were Expensive and somewhat Quirky at times. The Commercial A.O.L. was perhaps the worst. Natisp the best. But, Dialup has been there - for me, at least. Very Reasonable. No Problems OR Time Outs. Always Connected in a Timely matter- usually in seconds ! The Local contact numbers were Several and Free. NO connection problems. I am highly recommending them to ALL. Right now, I am using a Win 2000 Pro. Op. System and Dialup has handled Everything perfectly, so far. As far as the Business Office is concerned. They IMMEDIATLY gave me a transitional account right over the phone, on their 1-800 Number. I spoke with a guy named Denver. A polite man. I paid for the whole year with a Business Check. No problem as it cleared. A Very Good Outfit. IMHO The Doc in Cleveland,Ohio .

I've been with them for a little over a month now. They provide 2 more mailboxes and the same service as my old provider, for less than half the price I was paying...and they give me more hours each month, not that I use them. My password became corrupted (not the fault of Dialup.cc for sure) and I called the toll-free help in the middle of the night; the knowledgeable tech rep put things straight in no time at all, and he was courteous. What's not to like about this company?

We had a slight radius issue.

We have upgraded our support team. We now have SLA's in place for %80 of calls to be answered within two minutes, and a 2 hour SLA on %90 of emails. You should no longer experience long hold times or email responses.

Hi, y'all!

I've been with DIALUP.CC for about a day and a half now. I went with them after being satisfied with Allvantage for years but they got out of the dialup business so I was sent to PeoplePC where I was NOT happy. Anyway, I lost my ability to reach any URL about 5 this morning. Nothing I tried worked. After about an hour I gave up and went to bed. Woke up at 11 but couldn't get back to sleep so I tried DIALUP.CC again. Still could not log on. Tried their toll free number half expecting no answer. Got to talk to a real person after a surprisingly short wait. They were having a problem and I was told to try again in 15 minutes. I thought to myself "Yeah, right". So I used my backup free ISP (NetZero) to take care of some essential business. When I was done I tried DIALUP.CC again. Back in business.

I wish there hadn't been a problem. But there was. I think DIALUP.CC's response was excellent.

Post  Title: dialup.cc is worthy of praise after 8 months

a_houstonian

I haven't posted here in a while, and thought I'd stop by with some comments....

I signed up with dialup.cc october 2006, and my experience has been completely positive in the 8 or 9 months I've been with them.

I can probably count on the fingers of one hand I've gotten a busy signal or was unable to connect. My 3 pop3 email addresses work fine and have never had an issue.

I've referred a couple of friends, and received a free month for each referal.

I use multiple computers, and multiple operating systems, and internet in windozes, various flavors of linux (mostly slackware, ubuntu, BL3,) and even DOS (yes good ol' DOS) on 'legacy' pc's, 386's, 486's, early pentiums - using arachne browser, lynx386, doslynx, pc-pine email, ms-dos kermit, etc etc etc.

If only the other aspects of my life were as problem free and uncomplicated as my experience has been with dialup.cc

I WAS with mailaka.net for a long time, and while their service was good, I had signed in at the $5.95 rate, they then 'upgraded' their service with features I didn't need or care about (more email address / windoze accelerator bs) and raised the rate to $10.00. They ignored my reasoning to keep me grandfathered in at the rate at $5.95.... when I signed up I could have sworn that rate was never going to increase....... Also, I referred MANY people to mailaka and never received so much as a thank you, let alone any free months of service.... I'm not badmouthing mailaka, just presenting the reasons that are valid for ME to have switched.

at any rate, I made the switch to dialup.cc and have never looked in the rearview mirror.

For $4.94 a month, it meets all my needs for internetting and email.

perhaps someday I'll get cable or DSL, but right now it just doesn't make sense to spend hundreds of dollars a year for internet access at home.

On a somewhat less than positive note, I feel I must express the following:

For the few who are posting here (and on other ISP's reviews) with certain types of negative experiences, I suggest you take a little time to read help files and actually learn something about computers before blaming the ISP and expecting 'tech support' to wave a magic wand and be at your beck and call when you crack the whip. It's not that difficult to set up a windoze DUN - and there's no shortage of information on how to do it. It's not that difficult to go to 'properties' and uncheck the box that says 'auto disconnect after 20 minutes' before blasting an ISP for constantly disconnecting you. etc etc etc. If the small things like that are beyond your time limits or you are unwilling / unable to learn, perhaps you are best suited for aol or netzero where all your decisions (i.e., loss of control) are made for you. Then you will, at lest IMHO, have something to REALLY bellyache about.

THANK YOU dialup.cc for the contiuing great service, you are a credit to what dialup service should be!!!

I just connected at 49333!! NO problems! You either have spyware or a phone line problem. The problem is at your end. Try another ISP, I am sure you will have the same problem!!!

Seems dialupcc is very selective on there dialup numbers. I live in a town of about 40,000 yet there is no number. The surrounding area has another 15,000 people yet still no number in any of the cities. Good thing other cheap isps cover this area.

I just went to sign up with with dialup.cc only to find out that the only state in the continental US they don't have any access numbers for is Maine. What's up with that?

Needed to find replacement for belly-up allvantage.

I have been using dialup.cc and have had excellent service, but there have been irritations.
1) I was getting 99% SPAM before giving out my new email address, and when I asked to change the address/userID, they referred me to Management and it tokk weeks before it changed.
2) They have had server problems which denied me service, but they never tell their custServ. I had to insist that they check with the server "engineers" or admin staff before they believed me.
3) Many times I am responding to email taking about 5-8mins and when I click send the dialer comes up and I have to redial, thus losing my response which by then I forgot what I wrote.
4) I complained letting them know that people have homebased business and they lose money when they are disconnected without warning. Thye promise to correct that, so I am waiting.
For a $5/mo service you cant ask for much more, at least they outdid earthlink.
