Signed up with Netzero mid 2008. Had poor response time, so after 3 mos., asked for DSL upgrade. Then began the worst experience in ever dealing with anyone's customer service. 2-week delay for DSL modem (std delay) took 4 weeks. DSL didn't "connect" properly, so reported prob to cust. svc. FIRST complaint: cust. svc is divided for no apparent reason into dial-up and DSL. Their computer tries to figure out which you have, not based on service actually provided, but service you have requested. So for 2 weeks, I get connected to DSL cust.svc. when DSL isn't working. If one dept. needs to hand you off to the other, cust.svc. to cust.svc. OR to tech.supp., computer "looks up your acct" again! 2nd delay in getting DSL working was NetZero had to communicate problem to local phone company. Finally worked. One week into using DSL, Netzero telephones me and says "your DSL line has low reliability and we thought we should warn you; do you wish to cancel?" Being that I was communicating with a person in South Asia, I totally misunderstood this as being a Q I had to answer, and since I didn't say the magic words, Cancel My DSL, they did not; however I didn't want to use an "unreliable" service, so I unplugged the DSL modem and stopped using it. They however, continued to bill for the DSL high-speed, and they never cancelled the DSL service. The extra charge appeared every month for 3 months, and it took a half-hour phone call to have that reversed. After "requesting" DSL, two other options also appeared on my bill EVERY MONTH despire my explicit statement, I DO NOT WANT THESE OPTIONS. One was called Family Plan (I have no idea what that is) and the other was Games, (which I am totally uninterested in). With another 10 minutes on the phone, I got the foreign based cust. svc. rep to cancel those extra charges. However, somehow they would reappear every month. Long cust. svc. calls were due to (1) low voice volume; the rep would press a button and volume would be boosted. (2) cust. svc. rep would always respond with a long script after every statement I would make. (3) reversal of charges always took a supervisors' intervention which is done with call voices muted. The final straw came when NZ instituted a mail security logon in addition to the signon logon to connect. I checked the box for 2-week "keep me logged on". After 2 weeks the mail security logon would not work. It said my browser wasn't saving cookies, which was news to me. So I reset the options. Then the pswd wouldn't work anyway, so cust.svc. (email) said to clear history and cookies and restart browser. I restarted Windows just in case. Now the mail security logon would ignore the pswd and request it over and over. Cust. svc. said "this is a tech. support Q; contact them." Since the mail security logon wouldn't work, I could not receive emails. However in case of a problem, the tech. support screen will SEND an email for assistance. In that rqst for assistance, I would say I CANNOT READ MY EMAILS. So, of course, they responded with emails. EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE MY PHONE NO. To talk to a tech supp person cost something like 1.47 a minute, and I can't afford that. Min. tech supp call was 15 minutes. I had about 1 a month when they were free. (You get free calls when you upgrade or sign up.) I went to a friend's computer and signed on to my acct and was able to get thru mail security signon. I was then able to read tech supp emails. There they said "change browsers". And they sent me advertising for Norton anti-virus crap. Advertising without justifying it! My last cust svc call was to request reversal of the $5 DSL surcharge, but THIS Time they refused. Of course, I'm getting out.
If you want dialup with poor response time, Netzero is for you. Don't upgrade; don't ask for support.

Advice: If you cancel your service with any provider, do not connect with them, at all, even if you have minutes remaining. Delete dialup software and remove dial up connections from your Network Connections folder so that anyone else with access to your computer does not connect in error.
Many companies that bill through credit cards act on a principle that, if you continue to use their service, you are by inference accepting their terms of service and they will see that as an authorization to continue billing.
Also, always get a cancellation number. You need some proof that you canceled. They can always deny that, though, so an email, or, even better, a snail mail confirmation (not likely) would be better.

I'm really not happy with Net Zero. Their service is really slow and your constatly getting booted! Its not worth the money you pay them. Whatever you do don't give them your checking account number because I gave them my credit card number and they kept billing me more than they sould have more than a few times and even billed me when they said that they wouldn't. They still owe me about $50 dollars that they promised to refund me and they never have. They make it really hard for you to cancel their service and even when they do cancel it they never really cancel it because they give you so many free hours a month and if you use that service its not really free because they bill you anyway if they have your credit card number. You have to actually cancel your credit card and report it lost or stolen just to keep Net Zero from billing you. They will do whatever they can to keep you as a member even offering you free service, but don't be fooled because I took them up on it and they billed my credit card anyway. I found this website and I can't believe, but not surprised that there has been so many complaints. You're better off going to the library if you can't afford service because you get what you pay for and with the money they have taken from me I could have went with another service provider. They say they're so cheap and that much is true they're cheap and their service is cheap to the point that your booted and ripped off and not to mention goes so slow its mind numbing.

I decided to start a "free" trial of netzero in June 2007. They told me i would be sent a package in the mail containing all of the software for their package deal. It never came. I called and asked why I hadn't recieved it and some guy told me that it had been sent out but they would send another and it would be there in the next week. Again... never got a thing. I called back a week later and told them to cancel my account. They told me they would do so and that they are sorry for the inconvenience. A month passes and suddenly I am being charged 4.95 and 9.95 every month. Where did this come from. So i called back at least 20 times since then and each time my 2 accounts were "canceled" again. It is now November and netzero has cost me over 300dollars in overdraft fees from my bank account that they are pulling money out of and their representatives say that they can't give me any money back from it. Needless to say I am going to have to close my bank account that I have just to stop paying for their ignorance. I don't recomend netzero to even my worst enemies. They are a bunch of scammers that don't even speak good english and try to talk fast so that you agree to pay for something you don't even want. My attorney has been contacted and a lawsuit will be in motion very soon.

They do indeed ***. My privatephone account was disconnected, it took me 5 calls to 3 800 numbers that connected me to some office in India where the only staff member was a peon who couldn't even direct me to customer service, and my account is still disconnected. Don't use them!

Another reason NetZero ***: they ask for a credit card and charge you $2/minute if you call in with a tech support problem.

Fact: Any kind of valid credit/debit card number can be used, BUT: BY LAW banks and Credit Card companies MUST HONOR any kind of request to STOP PAYMENTS to this ISP.
It may take a while, and yes, you will receive many offers to "re-join", but DO NOT DO SO!! THEY WILL TRY to collect any monies from "past usages" even if you NEVER used their service before.
They are nothing but SCAM artists in my book.

This is my bad experience. I signed up for the $9.99 a month for my friend. He agreed to pay for it, and I would use the service. Everything was alright for about six months, then trouble. They sent him a bill every month which he promptly paid by personal check. Netzero claimed he never paid the bill and the customer service was nasty. My friend had a cancelled check from netzero, and they still claimed he never paid the bill. He mailed a copy of the cancelled check, netzero replied they had no record of the payment. This went on for four months, in the meantime I was trying to cancel service. I called at least once a week, only to be told they had no record of payment. After four months and lots of frustration, they finally agreed to cancel the service with no extra charges. Within a week they had the nerve to call and ask me to sign up again, this time offering one month free with the paid service. I had enough and wasn't the least bit interested.

PCWorld, found out NetZero is one of the worst to cancel.

Be very aware that NetZero owns Classmates.com so avoid that service also!

This is the worst experience I’ve ever had with an ISP; and it hasn’t ended yet!

It began with my needing an ISP for one weekend while I was traveling; so, I signed up with NZ for one month. First red flag: they billed me for a year instead of one month. When I received the confirmation and realized what they’d done, I called immediately and they said they’d corrected my account and that I’d be billed per month. Second red flag: The weekend for which I needed service came and all I got was the 10-hour free period as they had failed to activate my service. Upon realizing this, three days after initial sign-up, my concerns about their service were growing, so I called and canceled. I also didn’t expect to pay, since I was never activated, but they said that they “had” to charge me because I was activated on paper. This concerned me as I felt it was unethical to bill a customer for something they didn’t receive, but after arguing with several worker bees and finally talking to a manager, I was worn down and said, fine, bill me for one month but cancel me today. The manager assured me that I would only receive one bill and that my account would be canceled. I asked for a confirmation number and he said that I didn't need one. He repeatedly assured me that he had taken care of the issue.

This month we received another bill, even though I canceled in January. Last night I was on the phone for over an hour with a total of six representatives. They refused reverse the fraudulent February charge, but acknowledged my January request to cancel. So let’s recap: they charge me even though I was never activated and keep charging me even though I requested to be canceled. Hmmm? Seems giving them a credit card number is a risky proposition.

Long, long story shortened, I think they finally canceled me but still refuse to reverse the February charge. I won’t pay the charge and will carefully watch my credit for any new NZ charges. I believe NZ is entirely unethical to the point of being criminal. I have sent a letter to my card company and will continue to dispute any charges from NZ.

On a lighter note, I had a completely different experience with Earthlink. Their customer service was wonderful, plus, they have never fraudulently billed me. I tried NZ because they were cheaper. My mistake. You get what you pay for. In this case, I didn’t even get that.

If you don't cancel before the "free trial" is over, you are billed forever!
To sign up for a trial, you must supply a valid credit card number. Once NZ has the number, you will be billed whether you use the service or not.

Post  Title: Net Zero installed spyware in my computer and hijacked IE 7

jimmykolo

My name is Jimmy Kolo and I am a certified security specialist. I design software configured for Windows and consider my personal computer to be 100% safe. My security system alerted me that their was a hijack attempt in progress on IE 7 and it also said that it was originating from C/Progrom/Files/NETZEROSEARCH.exe I ignored this warning as my security sysytem said it had blocked it. I then entered in mysearch box a query onusing my default search which is Microsoft.com and was told either "sorry their were no results found for you question, try these listings" and they were all net zero sponsers... also there was a net zero banner on the top of the page... What I did to resolve this is go to my computer, click then click on local disk C, click on Programs, and I found 2 Netzero folders. 1 was listed as Net zero search.. I opened it and clicked on one of then DAT files and sure enough there was malicious code so I deleted the entire folder restarted my computer and NO MORE HIJACK or redirected searches, I also noticed right away that I can browse alot faster and web pages even load quicker.. They should call themselves Netspy... anyway Beware of net zero they are dirty!!!

I've used the free Netzero Access as a backup for almost three years and have had no connectivity issues or any extra charges. I recommend it but I do recommend downloading Msn explorer so you will have a homepage to go with it because all you will get with the Netzero free access is a banner and toolbar with a search bar, mailbox and a connect button.

I own a laptop and desktop and use a network to backup my laptop files. I upgraded to high speed and Netzero's software disables the computer's ability to network (removes default shares). I tried install only the low speed version. It does the same thing.

Just say no to netzero.

Pasport of fun from what I turned up in my search isn't associated with Netzero. Search for them, call the number and opt out.

We've figured out why we continuously get booted off Netzero "for unknown reasons" as their little alibi popup claims, (usually right in the middle of an important download). They are selling way more subscriptions than they have servers for and must boot their customers off for so many hours per day to allow others on, even though we are supposed to be paying for 24-7 service. We are going to DSL and pay more per month because Netzero's 6-month $9.95 deal is now, after 3 months, costing us $17.95 with no extra service. Matter of fact the service gets worse. Their chubby CEO with the grump on his lip should be named Ponzi because it appears as if Netzero is grabbing all it can get before heading for the tall timber. They are getting to be as bad as AOL.

here is the answer to your netzero problems.

NUMBER ONE:
only use the firefox internet browser when on netzero.
do not use the explorer internet browser unless you want to get Automatically disconnected.

NUMBER TWO:
buy netzero gift certificates
and pay your netzero bill with netzero gift certificates.
no netzero billing errors occur when paying your bill with netzero gift certificates.
