Title: Net zero works for me.
|
|
Mousi Guest
I have had net zero for several years now. I have not been disappointed with their service. However, I do have a computer that supports their software. Pages tend to load quickly, and very rarely do I ever get dropped. I am looking into broadband internet, and have read about the issues with trying to cancel. I will inform my bank if they decide to do something stupid like bill me after cancellation. Thanks for the info on that.

$9.95 a month, I did the thirty day free thing and after a week I canceled, that was in January and they have been charging me $29.90 a month since then until today when ,I hope , they finally removed me from their rolls. How can I get my money back, he wonders.

Title: netzero and Firefox
|
|
coltharp Guest
I enjoy Netzero's web acceleration. It bothers me that they are unwilling to support more web browsers and e-mail clients. What bothers me more is that they feel there is no problem with their softare changing your defualt browser it eith IE or Netscape.
I have a small remedy for Firefox and Netzero users, that complain about the default browser Issue
I created a Firefox extension that makes a toolbar button available that evokes Firefox's algorithm to set itself as the default browser. This will set Firefox as the default browser with just one mouse click.

I have been using NetZero for at least four years and I highly recommend their Platinum plan to everyone who needs an ISP. I also recommend their free plan to everyone to use as a backup means of accessing the internet. Why not? When the cable is out, I can still get online for free. Otherwise, with the platinum plan, I've been paying $6.95 per month for years. I found a deal for $3 less than normal($9.95) that was supposed to revert to $9.95 at the end of one year, and each time it came around to renew, they extended the deal another year. Twice now. I recently was awarded 6 months hi-speed cable service for free from Charter so I wanted to put my Netzero service either on hold or back to Free. They couldn't be nicer. They said to just continue to use the Platinum as necessary but they suspended the monthly payments for six months. I can't remember being bumped off unless it was overnight. I only use two access numbers of theirs, and never, ever don't get on within 30 seconds. No banners, popups, etc.-just a full screen of their home page to quickly dispose of with my own browser preferences. Now that I've been using cable for four of my six months, I definely will go back to NetZero once this deal ends. The difference in speed is not that noticeable except for large downloads. Not a frequent occurrance for me that often.

Title: stay away from nz

I've been using Netzero for far too long, and am currently searching for a new ISP until I can switch to cable. After reading so many complaints about Netzero's inability/refusal to accept cancellations, I'm prepared to call my bank (and perhaps Visa as well) in hopes that they'll prevent Netzero from continuing to charge me after I cancel.
For anyone considering this poor service, please allow me a few minutes of your time. My reasons for wanting to leave include:
-The heavy dialer software that forces you to sit through ads while connecting. In the early days, it wasn't that bad, but recently these ads have grown longer & longer, full-blown commercials, that keep going after connection as been established & you've logged on. The dialer is always "on top" and you can't close the window (that merely disconnects you). You must wait for the commercial to end for the large dialer to leave the screen.
-You will have trouble doing much of anything on the internet while Netzero uses your bandwidth to download new ads to your computer (without your permission or even notifying you that it's happening). You will get new ads about every week or two.
-If you worry about spyware/adware, Netzero will make you sweat, as you have no control over what they're sending or taking from you. From their TOS: As part of the NetZero Service, NetZero may from time to time download software owned by NetZero or third parties to your computer. Your use of the NetZero Service constitutes your consent to such downloads....Netzero will collect, store, compile and utilize information about you, your computer, your phone number and your use of the NetZero Services including, without limitation, information regarding the Web sites you visit...
-Once you are connected, an ugly Netzero taskbar will appear and remain for the duration of your session. You can minimize it or dock it. However, a Netzero box will always be present in your bottom taskbar along with your other browser windows.
-Netzero would like to force you to use Internet Explorer. Upon connecting, IE immediately pops up & is directed to Netzero's user page. You will have to close it every time you connect if you use any other browsers. Firefox users - every time you close firefox completely, you will have to reset it as your default browser upon opening it again.
-After a short period of inactivity, a notification will pop up warning you that you have 30 seconds until disconnection unless you click the button to stay online. With any big downloads, plan to hang around your computer for the duration.
-There is mandatory disconnection after 3-4 hours. They feel that is long enough for one session. It does not matter if you are downloading something at the time, your connection will drop no matter what, without warning.
-Your connection will freeze intermittently and you will have to manually disconnect and reboot your computer before you can reconnect. Sometimes this happens after ads/spyware/adware has been downloaded to your computer, and you must reboot to install whatever you've unknowingly downloaded from them. Other times the software simply stalls or causes an error and you must reboot to fix it.
-Sometimes you won't be able to establish a connection after dialing out. When this happens, you'll get a message to try again, or dial another number. Every time you dial out, you must watch an ad, whether or not a connection is made.
-And still other times, you will be randomly disconnected for no reason at all, as when you receive an "Error code: 20" (connection dropped for "unknown reasons").
-Remember, every time you are disconnected, you are forced to watch an ad during reconnection. You will catch on quickly that the more they disconnect you, the more ads you'll have to watch. It's usually the same 2-3 over & over, until they're replaced with new ones.
All of this and more for $9.95. Granted, while some of these problems are present with many dialup services, the increasingly intrusive nature of Netzero has rendered it more frustrating (and dangerous) than others. Especially if you include the cancellation problems so many people have shared here & in other forums.
I realize this is long, I apologize, but I feel if I've discouraged even ONE person from signing up with Netzero, it was worth it.

Title: NetZero will Scam you out of $9.95/year after cancelling!
|
|
tyguy Guest
I signed up for NetZero two years ago for their $9.95 dialup account. Then a few months later I cancelled from them because I got high speed DSL. They assured me that everything was taken care of. Two years later they charged me $9.95/year for this MegaMail email thing that I supposedly signed up for. They said that even though I cancelled out of my dialup account, that they still charged me $9.95 for this MegaMail email to maintain this email account. I NEVER signed up for anything called MegaMail and they refused to refund me. When I asked them to send me any documentation that says I signed up for this MegaMail email, they refused to send it to me. I immediatedly told them to cancel anything and everything related to NetZero, and put a stop payment with my bank from anything related to them. I even reported this to the Better Business Bureau. If anyone is thinking about signing up for NetZero, I'd think twice about it. I don't know if Netscape has any scams or anything but they do offer a $9.95/month unlimited internet access deal too.

IT your fault if you downlaoded the wrong software, there are 2 one for free an done for a monthly charge, read your download code,
I used the free download for 4 months and was never charge because they don't ask for a credit card, so how did they get you credit info.
You you the law suit for false statement, be where of what you say.

Title: netzero better then aol

userinwv Guest
I have been using Netzero for about 3 months and no problems, Pages load fast, and also they offer PC TO PC calling free and also PC to any phone , land or cell, National; or International at a reasonable rate.Plans start at $3.00 for 100 min, no added equipment needed. Down load the software and you are ready to make calls.
They also offer free web page
I do get some disconects but you will if you have older phone lines, this happens with any dial up service.
Yes Netzero is better then AOL.

Title: Singing the same blues
|
|
ginger Guest
I can sing the same blues about Netzero as those I've read in this thread - being disconnected for no apparent reason (sometimes they claim it was for unknown reasons ?), having billing issues (I use a debit card and they charge me fully $1.50 every month for doing so), the adware/spyware makeup of their service, on and on. But, when I clicked on their link to obtain information about who to call to cancel service, they went above and beyond! They sent me 14 emails to my Netzero account and 14 more to my Yahoo account offering me free accelerated dialup for a year! Woohoo! Like I'm going to bite on that dog. So, be aware that they do track your surfing habits and they probably also read your email. The question is, where to go from here.

I like them. they seem to work really well with mac and their software is the best I have seen. For mac atleast. I usually just use the dialup thing built in, but I have found myself using Netzeros software and their connection speeds are fast. I switched from pplpc b/c they didn't support mac at all, even when i configured the dialer it connected really slow but netzero rocks on my ibook. I dont use it that often b/c of the network at school but when i do it is great
