When highstream sold me like a slave to peoplepc I warned my son (who uses my dialup) and he checked out peoplepc and said from the reviews he read it had obvious problems. I suggested isp.com which I kept as a backup for several yrs and only cancelled because I bought a satellite system. He loves it with the accelerator service and I loved isp.com too during the years I used it. Not much need for tech support since we have our own domain and email so can't comment on those things, but it was dependable service and no problem whatsoever to cancel. Isp.com acts like professionals (unlike peoplepc) and were pleasant about the cancel.

We went right back to isp.com rather than get stuck in peoplepc hell

I had ISP.com as well and had been pleased with them too. But I agree with "the Captain" as I also cancelled. Their service seems to have taken some steps backward over the past several mos. And I too have found others just as good as or better than ISP.com had been previously.

I was a customer of ISP.com from 08-15-05 to 02-27-07 and, for the most part, was satisfied with the service. During the last 3 months I used their service, I encountered many disconnections after about four and a half minutes and it became annoying that I contacted customer service by e-mail

While using my ISP account, I am very frequently disconnected after only 4 minutes 35 seconds while using the Level3 numbers in my area. It makes no difference ... if I use DUN or the ISP Dialer! My backup isp uses Level3 in the same cities and this never happens when I use it... (ie: Juno)
I added that for a couple days their mail server wasn't authorizing my account. I received a reply the next day stating that there had been a problem with their e-mail server but the disconnection problem was never addressed except for "... If the box for hang up after send/recive is checked then uncheck it." They ignored the fact that I only had problems with their isp and not with any others!

I sent a reply stating
Quote:
"This has nothing to do with the disconnection problem ...It happens when I'm surfing the net but ONLY with ISP.COM as my provider...I won't be calling Customer Service and paying a big phone bill just to hear that it has to be a problem on my end...It's much easier and cheaper to send a cancellation notice..."
This got no respose at all - it was if I didn't matter to them so I sent the cancellation notice a few days later and received a prompt reply via e-mail on 02-16-07: ...It will be closed as of 2/27/07... On the 27th I sent e-mails to every address I could find for ISP.com/Ikano support and to the CEO of Ikano - forwarding all correspondence with ISP.com's customer support with the message I'm down to my last few hours with ISP.com as my internet provider... Had I been taken seriously, I would have stayed with ISP.com and would've recommended them to friends and family... after my complaint being taken so lightly and my followup being ignored completely, you can bet that I won't consider making any recommendations.

This e-mail got noticed and I did receive replys from Ikano and DialupUSA but still nothing from ISP.com customer support. DialupUSA sent this response: Here are all of your logs for this month. You can look at it and analyze it as much as you want...If level3 is kicking you offline, then so be it.... - totally ignoring the fact that I had no problem with Level3 numbers with other isp's. The Ikano customer support was more interested in finding the problem - asking for more info and stating: the Stop packet we receive could be erroneously sent from L3's NAS... but, by the time I got the reply, my ISP account was terminated.

ISP was a good isp but the first time I encountered a problem with them - they ignored the problem! Only when I bypassed their CS and contacted Ikano did I receive any response which suggested that there might be a problem. I'd suggest that you look elsewhere for an isp because there are better ones who don't charge for phone support, who will address any problem you might have and you can save $'s, too. I'm currently using another isp which uses Level3 numbers and haven't had any problems at all.

Some months ago ISP.com started to charge for tech support by phone. [They say that there's no charge for help if one submits a problem by email. I suppose their answer to one's problem is sent by email. You'll of course have to go to the public library to use an Internet computer to read their answer if your home system isn't working due to your problem.] If one calls their support number and doesn't leave a call back phone number, no one ever answers the phone-- you just wait, and wait, and wait. When you call their support number, a robot states the rates for tech support help.

Since tech support help went from free to costly help (when it takes some time to get the correct solution), it's clear that greed has become part of ISP.com's bad character.

very good and reliable.no charg for tech support unlike netzero who sunk me for 300.00$ for tech support. if netzero has access to your credit card #you are SUNK!! I had been with isp.com(til i got satellite)and had absolutely no trouble and no surprise credit card bills.

I had ISP.com and the connections were rock solid. Customer support was A ++. The price for such reliability is awesome. What I did not like about them and what eventually caused me to look elsewhere was their lack of a spam folder. Which means unless you are going to set spam filters so lenient where you receive tons of spam, you otherwise risk false positives and can miss legit mail without knowing it. And their 15 minute idle timeout is inconvenient when composing longer webmails or posts.

I've had ISP.com for nearly four months now and have nothing but compliments for this provider. And zero problems. A great value @ $9/month vs. $21 with my old isp. Called tech service and got the call back within two minutes. Speed is @ 44000 bps with no busy signals (only one access number here, rural Minn.) and no disconnects. I've recommended ISP.com to all my friends.

It now ***! Mad
I used to have 5 access numbers in my area...
We now have ONE!

Most of the time, I can't get past 45,000. One time, I was on at 9300!

Customer service recommended I go to their access number page, when I did it was the wrong link. When I figured out what it was, and went there, I was only given ONE access number...the same number that I already have!

Have been with them about a month and their dial service have been great. I live in NYC - land of many people and computers and I have been able to connect to their access number immediately everytime at 48K.

Keep up the good work. Wink

Great ISP for the money. I've been with them for 2 years now with no problems. Connections are always great especially after I tried another access number. Of which there are 8 for my locale. A whopping 450 hours are allowed. Spam filters include user individual settings along with white and blacklisting options. 10 email accounts are now offered with colored fonts available for writing emails. With free phone and email support. And I can attest to their prompt email replies.

I agree. All of that for $8.95 just might make ISP.com the best value around in internet service. No spam folder to check for false positives might be the only negative. But I'd much rather have the spam controls and whitelisting/blacklisting options. If you are expecting an important email and are afraid it might be mistaken as spam, you can always loosen your filter selection to allow more mail. Then when you receive the email, whitelist the sender's address and return to your usual setting. And besides the fonts, webmail now has smileys too. Big Grin

A few months ago I would have given isp.com 5 stars. I'd used them for a couple of years and had a really good experience with them- never had any problem connecting, good speed, no billing hassles. When I quit it was only because I was going on the road for a few months. I expected the usual wheedling to get me to stay, but there was none of that and it only took a few minutes. I was very impressed overall, so of course when I settled down again I signed up again with isp.com.

This time around I'm having a lot of connection problems. Things like there was no answer, the connection was refused, username wasn't recognized, etc. Not always the same error, but every day it'll happen a couple of times. I'm in the same town, so I'm using the same numbers. To their credit, there are a lot of numbers to choose from, so if one is acting up I can ususally get through on another.

I hope my previous experience with them was more typical, since I had reccomended them to lots of people.

I have been using ISP.com for over a year now. Good service for the price. I had a free trial from AOL and used it while with ISP.com and AOL connected me at 25,000 bps while ISP gives me over 45,000 bps. After updating my modem I get a steady 49,296 bps. I get disconnected occassionally, but not often, and it is only after I've been on a long time. I would not suggest using the accelerator as it actually seems to SLOW the loading of web pages. (That could be a 'me' problem, but I don't like it.)

I had been an AOL user for over 15 years, I just didn't want to change, don't know why. But when AOL went up to over 30.00 a month I had it. So I looked around for a new ISP happened to find ISP.com started using them andhave not looked back. As far as I am concerned you coundn't find a better service (and no I don't work for them). Been with them for about two years and won't switch unless they go out of busniess.

This ISP *** big time! I've had nothing but trouble with them from the beginning. My web space still doesn't work and after numerous emails they still haven't fixed it. I've had it with ISP's that don't have a clue. They're taking my money but they aren't giving me what I'm paying for. ISP.com- you ***!
