DTA = "Don't Trust Acanac"

I need to get the word out about Acanac. This is a warning to anybody interested in signing up for service with Acanac.

They offer great prices for service, but their service is horrible.

They can offer great prices because they use employees overseas that don't speak English. You may not notice this if you phone them to sign up, and that's because their sales office is here in Ontario, Canada, using English speaking employees.

They have below poor customer service. They don't care and never return phone calls. Once you've paid them up front, they've got their money, and they believe that their job is done.

I signed up for VOIP & Internet with them. Once I realized the mistake I made it took over 4 months to get a partial refund for service, and I'm still fighting to get back money that they still owe me. Truly it's 5 months now and they still owe me money.

I should also mention that they hang up on you purposely if you mention that you want a refund. Scary!

What says it best is the Better Business Bureau. (www.bbb.org) They've got Acanac at an "unsatisfactory" level.

Trust me, no amount of money saved is worth it. I'm working with the BBB to try and get my money back currently.

The complaints Acanac received were all different:

These complaints concerned:

1. Customer Service Issues
BBB Definition:
Service Issues - Claims of alleged delay in completing service, failure to provide promised service, inferior quality of provided service, or damaged merchandise as a result of delivery service. Claims alleging unsatisfactory customer service, including personnel's failure to provide assistance in a timely manner, failure to address or respond to customer dissatisfaction, unavailability for customer support, and/or inappropriate behavior or attitude exhibited by company staff.

2. Guarantee or Warranty Issues
BBB Definition:
Guarantee or Warranty Issues - Claims alleging failure to honor the terms regarding guarantees or warranties.

3. Billing or Collection Issues
BBB Definition:
Billing or Collection Issues - Claim alleging billing errors, unauthorized charges, or questionable collection practices.

4. Service or Repair Issues
BBB Definition:
Repair Issues - Claims of alleged incorrect diagnosis of a problem, delay in completion of repair, inferior workmanship. Claims of alleged delay in completing service, failure to provide promised service, inferior quality of provided service, damage merchandise as a result of delivery service. alleged incorrect diagnosis of a problem, delay in completion of repair, inferior workmanship.

I went 3 months without home phone because of them. Acanac refused to release my phone number back to Bell (which is illegal), but they didn't care.

My cell phone bills cost me $173.56 total and all calls were to Acanac to cancel service and transfer my number back to Bell.

Thank you Bell for bringing me back!

Save yourself the hassle.

Don't Trust Acanac.

Hi everyone,

I am from the Vancouver area in BC, Canada. I have read many reviews on Acanac and would have to agree with many of you out there who think that this company is a fraud. To begin with, they do not send you a receipt or an acknowledgement when you sign up for an account with them. They do not assign you a telephone number, no online billing statement, no contact phone number for customer service. They simply charge your credit card the full amount of $69.90. Then, it takes over 3 weeks for them to send you the modem (and this is after several calls to the company and their staff telling you that they have already sent it out), what a bunch of liars because there is no way that it should take 3 weeks for them to send the modem from Ontario. I know that many of you have experienced this same situation so it is probably nothing new here.

Now, it is 1 month later and the charge is still on my credit card. I have called their billing department at least 5 times and always get the same response. They say "we will put in the request, and the charge will come off sometime in the future". I have sent them multiple emails, declined the modem they sent me, notified them that I am not using their service, and yet I still get charged. Definitely stay away from these guys, THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU, they simply want to scam you out of your $60+ of activation fees and then tell you lies after lies in the hope that you buy into their scams. How can a company like this continue to exist and continue to defraud people every single day?

This is the worst phone company ever and if you want to save yourself the time and headache, consider Vonage instead, at least they care about their reputations and customer satisfaction. I just hope that I get my money back and that either the BBB or the CRTC will conduct an investigation on this company. No consumer should ever have to deal with a fraud company like this one.

Think twice before you apply for their business. Their customer service is the worst in history.

Cheap when it works! Blimey they are still operating this business from a basement and cannot cope with the amount of business but emply non-english speaking customer personnel.

This company will soon sink once the word gets round. No adsl connection for almost a week? Very painful and no one to take the the heat?

Sit up or sink. I am going back to bell or rogers.

It is better to stick with the big boys than this company. The technical support department is nothing. I have logged three calls and called up to 5 times to check my adsl connection without any luck.
I had to phone the sales desk to speak to someone but only to be transfered to the technical support group; this group will put you on hold and then cut you off.

I have already requested another service from bell.ca and definitely cancel my account with acanac.ca

I moved from England some years ago and this is the worst service I have ever come across in Toronto. Though they are cheap, it is not worth the hassle. I have been down for almost a week.

I have read a few reviews and have to agree with the disgruntled customers.

I applied twice online for the service, called after each attempt and was told someone would get back to me as they could not find my file. No one called back.
Also, they said the service I was applying for was not available until the weekend and someone would get back to me then, no one did.

I called today to speak with the sales department knowing that it is in India and I realise that when they put you on hold to check they are not checking anything they are just making you wait thinking they are.

I said that if this was the way the organization was run, I did not want to have there service as there was no service. They were speachless.

So I am looking for another VOIP service and checking my visa to make sure they don't bill me.

In addition to the below they bill you in Canadian currency so you will have a different billing each month and an additional bank fee on top if you are a US citizen. Service was very poor, but they were very prompt with the refund.

Did you try calling them toll-free? Two months ago I signed up and had a minor problem with my DUN settings - my error, not Acanac. The tech walked me through it and I was online a few minutes later. I found Acanac on Freedomlist and came back here to say so far I've had a good experience with this ISP.

Signed up for this ISP. First you have to wait to be called back for hours after you complete the online application. When set up I logged in. Worked the day I signed up and the following morning, but in the afternoon got invalid username response. As stated here there is no way to get support in less than 24 hours, usually longer. If this meets your needs good luck. Frown Hope I get my money back per their 30 day trial. Also note you will be charged more than listed on the site, probably tax but no explanation.

I have tried a lot of servers. The worst one to date is Netscape they have the rudest operater and also a lot of web sites don't come up at all on there service oh well. Now I'm with Acanac and so far it has been the best server I have had yet. Keep up the good work. So long for now Rich. Grin

Post  Title: http://acanac.com/Dialup.htm United States

50.6 bps connections in Southern California. Quick dialup connections in Southern California. Acanac's network seems to be quite reliable in Southern California. In Southern California, Acanac's network reliability is better than Earthlink's network reliability. No late-night network falloff or sudden network disconnect, and so forth. Acanac apparently employs polite people, unlike Stowe Telecom, Kamudi, and similar ilk. Let me say that again: Acanac employs polite employees, really polite employees. Imagine that. Customer service responds by e-mail in less than 24 hours; technical help responds by e-mail in less than 24 hours; toll-free telephone support responds with an immediate recorded message. Acanac does not publish DNS addresses that are sometimes required for Linux / BSD / Unix / Apple / QNX, so I provide the following current DNS addresses for Acanac:

209.210.176.9 209.210.176.8 66.49.194.253 64.141.32.202 64.141.32.202

For a dialup network more reliable than Earthlink's and just as fast, combined with their really polite employees, Acanac's price is right.

In short, I recommend Acanac Inc.

Thanks. JohnnyZ
