Well, I signed up for this anyway and after several days I've never had any trouble connecting (I only use it during the day though) and I've always connected at 52000kps. This is looking pretty darned good so far.

Title: Service in Edmonton?
|
|
stony Guest
Just wondering about the quality of service in the Edmonton area. I have cable access at home, but need a dial-up to access the internet while at work and this seems like a great deal. I'm paying $15 a month for 100 hours with Sprint right now but only use about 15 hours a month so am looking for a cheaper alternative and this seems to be the best deal going now that free isp's seem to have dried up.
Your advice would be appreciated.

These people are a NIGHTMARE! Their system constantly crashes, when you can get through. I closed my account with them in July, and they are still billing me in April.
Definitely not worth the small dollars, believe me.

Title: good but poor connection
|
|
carl Guest
I am also very satisfied with 295.ca. For what I need to do it is perfect however there is one downfall. As with all dial-up isps eventually the more users who sign up after you creates poor connections for the previous users. The price that arrives on my credit card bill is right however, sometimes not being able to connect and having to reconnect and reconnect time after time to get is good connection is very frustrating. This inconvenience always makes me wonder it is all worth while.
Thanks
Carl

Simple Rule for using 295.ca as your ISP...
- Use it if you can't afford more than 2.95/mo.
WARNING:
You pay $16.00 to sign-up!!
And it is non-refundable.
$16 = $10 (sign-up) + $2.95 (first mo) + $2.95 (last mo)
I cancelled this service 2-days after joining because I sick of waiting to connect. There are other services for about $13 cdn which connect immediately.
You get what you pay for. You eventually connect, but for me, it is not worth the cheap price.
Again... - Use this isp if you can't afford more than 2.95/mo.

I have been using 295.ca for just over a month, dialing in to the Toronto line. I had problems at first, but they were due to my phone line being noisy. Since it was repaired, everything works just as it should. I would highly recommend this service.

I live in Toronto and am considering 295.ca as an inexpensive dialup access for ocassional daytime use. I would welcome feedbacks from fellow Torontonians on their experience with 295.ca. Thanks.

Its alright, but I have found it slowing down over the last month. More people must be signing on. And between 6-8 its hard to get logged on.

I wanna cancel my account with 295.ca but where is the stupid call center number?!?!??! Their website doesn't have the phone number on there but it states multiple times that "If you have a problem, call us!" ARGH!!! But it seems there is no phone number. If any of you had already cancelled 295.ca ISP, please send me a link or phone number for Hamilton Ontario. Thanks!!

I will suggest to everyone that is dissatisfied with 295.CA to find yourself a reliable ISP and not even bother with 295.CA. Rogers offers hispeed at $19.95 per/mo; the first three months at $15.95. I'm more than satisfied with Rogers and not-to-mention, they've been in business a heck of a lot longer than 295.CA. It's by word of mouth by dissatisfied customers that will put 295.CA out of business.
In terms of a permanent fixed email address...I read in one thread where one gentlemen said he's tired of changing his email address constantly. Even though I use Rogers as my ISP, I used the web-based email services of Burntmail: http://burntmail.com Burntmail is surpasses Yahoo MSN Hotmail and any web-based email provider you can name. Burntmail does not support any form of advertising whatsoever. Burntmail offers a 30-day FREE trial to test the system to see if you like it or not. After the 30-day trial period, it's $15.00 a year and you get 1001MB of disk space. Burntmail even has it's own POP and SMTP setting that I use within Outlook Express.
I've used Burntmail now for 2 years and I can tell you honestly, Burntmail is the BEST! The interface pages of Burntmail is like you were using Outlook Express. And, it wholly Canadian, based in Calgary, Alberta.
Looking for a permanent email address? Check out Burntmail: http://burntmail.com
Cliff, the owner of Burntmail, is an absolute fantastic guy to deal with. I only use Rogers to provide me with a connection to the Internet, nothing more. And, it's worth mentioning, absolute no junk mail I receive. He has strong, STRONG, spam filters that you can set that no other web-based email provider has. It's truly amazing!! Burntmail even offers virus scanning of emails.
Regardless of what ISP I have, I never have to worry about changing my email address. It's always the same. My setting within Outlook Express remain the same for Burntmail, constantly.
Check it out!! http://burntmail.com

Waste of money |
I agree with you. 295.CA IS the worst provider I used, as well. Difficulities connecting and when you do get connected, constantly loosing the connection. In addition, 295.CA doesn't provide 24-hr Technical Support and they go on holiday, such as Christmas, for two weeks leaving their customers stranded.
I cancelled my account with 295.CA on December 27th and moved on to Rogers HiSpeed Internet. This saying holds true and bears repeating: "You pay for what you get." I don't foresee 295.CA being in business much longer with the difficulities their experiencing. Their a joke, as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather pay a little more money and get quality service than to be left fending for myself. I was with 295.CA from October 2003 to December 2004 and during that time I experienced nothing but one problem after another. Rest assured, I won't even recommend 295.CA to any of my friends.
