What are you people talking about??????
These 2 companies are the very best and you all are just haters. I had them both and had no problems at all. You all seem to want something for nothing or nothing much. It is in the service agreement about the account if you all will take the time to just read and educate yourselves about anything you purchase, things will be better for you.

Pros: price. It's hard to beat $9.95 a month for unlimited dialup service.

Cons: they've gotta make money somehow. So:
(a) they sell your eyeballs (i.e. display video ads) each and every time you dial up. And you've gotta watch the whole ad before the connection is completed. Ugh.
(b) they drop the connection randomly, several times per day.
(c) aggressive timeouts - they also drop the connection deliberately (and often) as their software doesn't seem all that great at recognizing when you're using the net in non-surfing ways (e.g. playing games at yahoo). At least for this, they pop up a window with a 30 second warning, and you can just push a button to maintain the connection. (When you see the window, that is. Sometimes I've missed it; don't know why.)

I don't know how many (if any) of these annoyances would disappear if I upgraded to their 'high speed' option for another $5/month, but at this point I'm sufficiently "ticked" off at them that I don't plan to give them any more money, so I won't be finding out. (At the end of this month, I'm going back home to my DSL connection anyway.)

Summary: no worse than any other megacorp that doesn't respect its customers.

If you have aol, you might try  www.poetworld.net  as it is great for speed and service. I have it along with some cheapies and it is probably the best of the under $10 a month ones if you like a no problem ISP. There are many to chose from but it sounds like you are ready for a change!

Post  Title: Dont sign up with NetZero under any circumstances

I made the mistake of signing up for Platinum Service with MegaMail. My wife and I both have email addresses and when I tried to establish the second email address on the Platinum account, I was told I had to set up a "Free" account for the second email address with none of the privileges for the main account, AND this account could not be accessed with any email reader such as Microsoft Outlook. The only access is via a web site.

I originally signed up with them because their advertisement on their web site states that you can have multiple email address for all of your family on one Internet account. A BIG LIE!

I immediately sent an email asking how to setup multiple email addresses and was told this was not possible. I sent an email asking that my account be cancelled and charges reversed and was told this must be done via the phone. All this occurred with a couple of hours!! When I spoke to the customer no-service representative, they refused to refund any charges despite their inability to deliver what their web site advertised.

They were curt on the phone and it was clear they had no intention of making a refund despite me telling them I would deny the charges. They did not care, and stated they would fight the denial.

I have tried to cancel my service twice. Mysteriously the charges keep showing up on my credit card every few months. Customer service says I authorized the account extention. No, I did not!!! They refused to refund the charges. When I asked to talk to the manager the rep hung up on me. I had to let my credit card deal with them and change my credit card account to keep Netzero away. STAY AWAY FROM NETZERO!!! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

For those of you who have not received credit for netZ's lack of response, if you used a credit card, you can call the credit card customer service, and in many cases, they will back charge the carrier (in this case, netZ) and credit your account. In addition, I was told by my VISA carrier that they would also attach a carrying charge to the back charge. If enough unhappy N0 customers can do that, N0 may get the message!

Post  Title: NETZERO

AMAZED

I'm amazed at how quickly I could get hold of someone to setup my account at netzero, but how long it took to finally get someone to pick up when I needed to cancel the account - 1.5 hours (due the high volume of activity which would really be no surprise). They do have a web site for cancellations; it is just always down. Seriously, try it - it doesn't work...ever.

So if you're thinking of hooking up with NZ but you're not sure you want it to be a lifelong commitment, try the cancellation site, then try the phone site.

By the way, they've charged my credit card three times since we cancelled the service (got a confirmation number and everything...after 1.5 hours you bet I did). The first time it was...well, maybe they have a 30 day cancellation policy. Last time they billed me twice in the same month.

- I ordered NetZero Internet Service in September,2004, at which time I was told that I would receive the necessary software in the mail.
- There was a promotion for one free month of service.
- I never received the software. I contacted the company by email. They apologized and said they'd send it.
- I still never received the software. I contacted the company by phone. They again apologized and said they'd send it.
- Billing started in October @ $17.45 per month. I still had not received the software.
- I again contacted the company by phone. They again apologized and said they'd send it.
- To this day, I have never received it.

- In January, 2005, I found out that I have been billed since October @ $17.45 per month. I contacted the company and requested a refund for 5 months, totalling $87.25. I was assured that I would be fully refunded.
- Today, March 1, 2005, my phone bill reflects a credit from NetZero for only $20.00.

- I called the company, waited 15 minutes on hold before anyone actually answered, and was told that another department would handle this matter. I was told that no-one in management was available.
- I was transferred, waited another 10 minutes on hold, after which a man answered and stated that they were having technical difficulties, and that I would have to call back in "a couple of hours".

-Can anyone help me get my $87.25? I am a single mom of 4, living on disability...VERY limited income. I cannot afford this.

I ;m new to having my own coputer and have noy tries another isp yet -started with net zero- and soon began to encounter problems; had to redial several times to get hi speed to work;; get connection corrupted messages- and have sluggish action on several web sites?? I'm not sure this is due to net zero- but a lot of the troubles i have are similar to those mentioned by everyone here. I don't have a bank deduction with them but go through the phone company--i hope I do not have problems canceling??? I'm seriously considering going to another isp because of what I've read on this site.

My son broke his elbow on 10/25/2004. My ISP at the time charged me Approx. $12.95 per month with my choice of limited access. In having my sons activities limited I decided to go unlimited with my current isp. The charge was Approx. $23.99 per month.

In researching I found NETZERO.COM.
Unlimited service 1 month free for $14.95 per month!!
SUPER!!-- SO I THOUGHT!!!!!!!

I entered all the appropriate info to have the NETZERO.COM downloaded.
I.E.-name,address.DEBITCARD NUMBER,etc...

As the download (supposivly) downloaded I waited wanting to sign on.--again to try for my first month free.

When it was completed I sighned off my current ISP and went to try NETZERO.COM.

I clicked on the icon and was told no such program exsist!!
I thought it was within my computer so I signed off and that was it.

Then balancing my check book I realized I had been debited for $14.95 for NETZERO.COM. - Thinking I would be automatically credited due to Billing cycles I waited.

Then the next month I was not credited I was AGAIN debited $14.95-!!
This without a doubt raised red-flags!

In TRYING to rectify and/or communicate with NETZERO.COM
leading to "dead-ends" I was then DEBITED AGAIN--FOR NO SERVICES RENDERED!!!!!

They have no "live" Billing consultants and or a valid contact E-mail online access!!!

I did obtain a netzero # for technical and/or Billing However I was on hold for a WHILE and was after being on hold was ""DISCONNECTED""!

In determination I called the ZETZERO.com number of 1-888-349-0029 and instead of selecting the 'billinb' option thru automative phone system I picked, technical support.
I spoke with a women named suzanne She was very nice!!
However Being a 'loud-person" as I can be she stopped the conversation and said stop yelling at me- I replied I'm not-. ( I have a minor hearing problem and without knowledge speak loud)...I apologized and she suggested I speak to a supervisor.
I agree-, Since she can only refund a partial part of my DEBITED FUNDS FOR SERVICES NOT RENDERED!!
After being on hold I quoted from the supervisor named Jerry that I can be refuned for the two months and not 3. He then advised me to contact a wesite for NETZER.COM for the remainder balance of $14.95.
He stated that I would NOT be DEBITED any Further....

--ALL THIS FOR SERVICES NOT RENDERED!!!!
(not to mention the catch-phone live support of 1.99 per minute)

If you have read this message so far -thank-you..But I have contacted the Better business bureau, Media, and about ready to send an E-mail to the General Attorney......
Currently I lost $44.85 dollars for services NOT rendered...This may be small to some and big to others but the bottom line is ITS NOT RIGHT!!!!!!

If you wish a copy, please give an email (don't put the at in it, list the name on one line and the ISP on the next; I'll figure it out but the bots harvesting data won't Cool ). It must be an address that can accept lare attachments.

We've had netzero for a while, used to like it. They've upgraded us to 7.0 (the last version was a 3* or 4*). Yep, I get the same HUGE uploads, sometimes half my bandwidth is taken up by them either putting stuff on or taking info off my computer. Yep, the damn thing stops working like other folks say, the other day I had to restart 7-8 times. NOPE, it is NOT a virus: I've scanned with both my anti-virus software and no virus. It's netzero itself.

The first time they updated without my permission was the time I discovered that "there are no numbers available for your area". I live in Philadelphia, PA, and formerly had 6 dial-up numbers in my area code. Guess what-- they're still there, the update just nuked what I had without providing new ones.

...Somewhere I managed to find an old version of Netzero, what I had before. I nuked the 7.0 p00p and re-loaded the old one, and voila' Netzero worked again. But since then I've nuked 7.0 4, maybe 5 times. I saved my NZ 4.* in a separate folder, otherwise it kills it when they upgrade. ...Well, last time I forgot to do that, and have since been searching for SOMEBODY who has a copy of an old Netzero setup, 3.*, 4.*... if you wonder how much difference it makes, just check out the folder after doing setup, and compare to the 7.0 folders.

...Can anybody point me to an older NZ file? PLEASE???

Post  Title: NetZero - Fraud, Theft by deception

Tomkeman
Guest
Netzero conducts illegal activity such as fraud, theft by deception, deceptive business practices and on and on and on.

After two weeks, about 10 phone calls, 6 emails, netzero refuses to address anything.

The problem was created when I used Microsoft Internet Connection Wizard to connect to the Internet.

The wizard connects you to 1-800-857-3121 which is an online "Refferal Service" where ISP advertise and allow you to sign up.

I did click on Netzero to see what they were all about. I started to fill out the Netzero form to subscribe and changed my mind.

At the end of the form I clicked the "Back" button, instead of the "continue" or "subscribe" button, and was signed up without my knowledge or approval. So beware the "Back" button is programed to sign you up.

I know this happened because minutes later I was ready to sign up for Netzero and the screen name was now taken.

I have also found that Netzero had programed the "tab"button on other screens incorrectly so you become confused or frustated.

They also had their "contact us" screen called "Personal Assistance Ticket" programed to error so you could not contact them. Although you were led to believe you had. If you call up that screen try using the tab button and you will see.

Today I am still trying to communicate with Netzero but can't understand what I'm talking about.

So BEWARE OF netzero and their scams.

Tom

LOL! Took me 25 mins on a Sunday night (due to high call volume) RIGHT!
Then was "Hard sell" all kinds of other BS. Came across this website and started reading (while on hold) could not believe my eyes! Twice while holding a recording came on giving a web address to cancel -but- she says it so fast you can not jot it down in time to remember! Geez I'm glad I got this done! GOOD LUCK NETZERO ***!
