Title: find another isp! you have been warned!
|
|
DON'T USE THIS FALSE ISP!!! Beware! This is NOT the same Phreego that was popular a few years ago. It has changed hands several times since. These latest owners are real doozies! Don't fall for their false advertising. Their changing-the-rules-as they-go, strong-arm billing tactics, and petty games they play against good customers are going to take what's left of this company straight down. It's just a matter of time. They act like they're the only ISP in town, and are about to get a rude awakening.

I have phreego but have not had trouble with it. I do know that if you have a business and are not using the business addition, it will be blocking things, You cannot use it for your own web pages or uploading to a web page or any business web unless you are paying the extra 4.95 for the ability to do so.

Well, thanks for your help. Yes, phreego does block you from using any smtp servers other than their own. But thats not the whole problem. I went to my parents house and used their wireless connections, and I still couldn't use my care2 account, still haven't been able to figure out why.
So I am just getting a new email address with care2.
I have gotten my care2 email to work, accindenitally , by re-installing phreego's dialer the other day when I really needed to send an email right away. Then I noticed again that phreego's dialer automatically installed phreego's email into Thunderbird, along with their server.
Phreego is fine to use if you want to use their email, or check your email online. Like another guy said , its fine for personal use, but not business, even small business.
I am still searching for another ISP, if anyone knows of a good one.

No, I don't work for Phreego or something. As previously stated, I've been a Phreego customer for nearly a year.
I've been thinking about your situation. Please be aware I may not possess the technical expertise to help you. Also, be aware I'm trying to help you with very limited information about your connectivity issue. In your original post you stated "...the email that I already had installed on Thunderbird, care2, doesn't work anymore for sending messages." (emphasis added)
Are you able to receive incoming (POP3) e-mail sent to your other (non-Phreego) address? If yes, it seems Phreego may be blocking port 25 to prevent you from sending outgoing (SMTP) e-mail from another domain. It's an increasingly common practice among Internet Service Providers in the ongoing battle to defeat or otherwise minimize spam sent from their server(s).
I don't know if Phreego blocks port 25 because I don't use their service to access other SMTP e-mail.

Do you work for Phreego or something?
Well, if I haven't been scammed , what would you call it?
A company's software automatically installs an email account into my email client, and changes my server to theirs, and then when I call for their help, they tell me that their software doesn't change any settings!!!
Well, if it doesn't change any settings , then how did their smtp server automatically show up in Thunderbird?
I can't use Thunderbird anymore now, and I even had a computer tech look at my computer for hours the other day, and he couldn't figure out what the problem was.
I don't think it's just a coincidence that as soon as I installed phreego, and then their email account showed up in Thunderbird, my old email stopped working.
It's very inconvient to not be able to use Thunderbird and have to log into the web to check my email, it takes much much longer to check my email.
If you don't think it's Phreego's fault , then do you have any suggestions on what could solve the problem?

Title: Phreego

While searching for under $10 Internet access for my sister, which moved to a Gawd forsaken corner of the continent, I found irieleshi's post...
Scammed??? That's a huge accusation. Geez, you weren't "scammed" by Phreego. You have a technical problem but I doubt it's Phreego's fault, as stated by their tech support. I've been a Phreego customer for the past eleven months. I use Thunderbird as my primary e-mail client. I didn't experience any problems when I signed up and installed the dialer and accelerater software. No Mozilla T-bird problems.
Every computer has a unique fingerprint (so to speak) with potential hardware and software configuration conflicts...
I noticed Phreego hasn't otherwise had a post on Freedomlist since October 2005. No news is good news.

I am so upset with this company, and if they charge my credit card I can assure you I am going to do something about it, and I would like to encourage all of the other people on here that have been scammed by phreego to do something about it too!
AS soon as I installed phreego , it created an email account for me and automatically installed it into my email client, Mozilla Thunderbird. After that the email that I already had installed on Thunderbird, care2, doesn't work anymore for sending messages. I have tried EVERYTHING, and cannot get it to work again! REal bummer!!! This makes it so much harder for me to reply to emails. I would reccomend staying away from any ISP that wants you to install their software. It is possible to set up a dial up account on your computer without installing software. Phreego's website looks right and says all the right things, but if I can't reply to emails , what good is it?
I just wish that they would be honest and supportive and help me fix this problem, but the customer service guys tell me that if it has nothing to do with a phreego email account , then they can't help me! Thats not the business I am looking for!

I have used phreego for nearly 9-10 months and never was billed incorrectly. i had their unlimited package with web accelarator and it worked fine. THEN, recently i had problems with their OUTgoing smtp server, wich really was bad, as an email I thought i'd sent, didnt go out and it cost me a lot of money and grief.
so, my best advice is, that if you are a business user to find a source with super reliable servers.
that said, im still looking, though i cancelled phreego and
tried netzero, which is no good either.
Netzero doesnt allow u to use an FTP prgram it seems.
Neither does Dialup.CC , by the way, which im trying now and get tired of real quick.
another note: Phreego's their customer service is just fine. call their 800 nr and you always get someone QUICKLY on the phone.
So, the bottom line with Phreego is :
ok for personal use, NOT OK for business users.
Not even small business users as myself.
same applies for netzero, aol, msn, and such large isps, who force you to use their proprietary dialers which disallows ANY use of 'their' internet...
I also want to use a program called ADVANCED SMTP SERVER and that too didnt work with phreego (or wont with any of the big guys)
I dont know what i'll end up with, but, it sure is a needle in a hay stack to find what i need! YOu'd think with so many choices out there, ONE would work eh!
I contacted isp.com BUT, on my 2nd try I was hung on the hold line for quiet some time and my 2nd email wasnt replied to.

I've been using Phreego for at least a year and haven't had any problems with it. It's unlimited access for $9.95 a month and it'd be hard to complain about that. They have free tech support and three local access numbers in my area. CompuServe and AOL only have one access number and charge over twice as much. The web accelerator is complicated and I rarely ever use it since I put my puter into hibernation when I'm not using it. This gives this accelerator a fit. Other than that, Phreego is better than CompuServe or AOL by far!

Guest again !!!
I downloaded their dialer and express software. once the internet connection is established using their dialer (with or without web-accelerator enabled) - I get a crash on lsass.exe (LSA shell) and my XP system reboots after 60 second countdown.
I sent an email to their helpdesk - it is more than 24 hrs - I have received no response. So I have canceled the account.

Today when I checked on their website - phreego express is $9.95 p.m which is web-accelerated service. And also I donot see 150 hrs/pm limitation - home page ad says "unlimited"

I have used phreego for a year and in general have had no problems with it. But in July I never logged on once and when I received my credit card bill I had a charge of $34!! So I e-mailed them about it and no responce. I then decided to cancel and I didn't get a conformation on the cancellation but I was not charged for August. So this company is mostly reliable but once in a while they may stick it to you.

Well, for 7.95/month the service has been mostly OK, though down every now and then. But currently, all their local access numbers have been down since 7/29 (3 days) and as yet no reply to my email asking when they will be back up. When it works, I've had no complaints, but they just charged my credit card on 7/30 7.95 for August and since I have no service, I'm not happy about that. That's why I am here looking for another ISP.
Too bad, Ramsey! But you must do better by your customers!

Title: ONLY 150 hours???
|

what are you smoking? Guest
I have a life, that's why I use over 200 hours each month.
I work online, I write relatives in other cities and states, AND
I post to newsgroups (like this one) and I shop at auctions.
Five hours a day is nothing when you only work from home.
I suggest you try it before you knock it. Earn more income!
I'll never clock in at another job. Home-based business rules!

I've been using phreego for about 5 months now with no problems. Had I known about the $1.50 per hour over charge I would have looked elswhere. In fact, I'm going to do that now.
