Title: No problems
Scarlet Guest
I just signed up for joi internet and have had no problems, no disconnections, etc. as some people have mentioned.
Then again, I don't expect to be able to stay online all day with a dial up internet connection, or to avoid pop-ups. If this is what you're looking for - modern day internet isn't the thing for you!

I have been usuing Joi internet for 6 months, very few disconects. Considering my prevous isp's ,I have had alot better success with joi . 24/7 tech support at this price is a steal. Its a simple service , simple to set up and simple to use. No pop ups , no ads. So to say class action law suite? Let me guess you prolly dont know the diffrence between right click and left click yet. You ask for these things in other isp's and your charged like 17$ a month. Some people just shouldnt use a computer I tell ya. Pack your pc up and send it to your nearest geek, they will make better use of it.

Title: To much bitterness
rayber Guest
We have had Joi for almost 18 months and have had little or no problems with this ISP. Within the lat 18 months they have been down only twice for repair. This is usually done late at night when it occured for us. Look at the price at Joi and then look at AOL or Earthlink. Look at what you are paying and that should tell you something. Even the big boys can't promise you excellent service at those prices. Some times crap happens and well, let go of all the bitterness and just surf and enjoy.

Yes, the Hawk dialer software is indeed worthless. It doesn't help in troubleshooting either - all it says is "Transient error - do you wish to redial?" It never tells you what the problem was with connecting. They've got instructions on their web site for setting on the connection. Just follow those - it takes no more than 10 minutes.

Title: How can anybody live with a 5k mail box?
Gringo Madrileño Guest
It's 5 MB. 5K is like two or three emails all at once.
If you don't want to be limited by the 5MB, just use a POP3 email client like Outlook Express. It'll download the emails from the server, and then remove them from the server because the emails are stored on your computer. Being a Hawk user myself, I know that you can just as easily use Outlook Express as easily as you can use webmail.

Title: Connecting to Hawk
Gringo Madrileño Guest
I'm also a Hawk user. I've rarely had a problem getting connected. It usually involved me needing to:
(1) Reinstall my modem drivers.
(2) Reinstall my network components.
(3) Simply try a different access numbers.
I doubt that Hawk would still be in business if ALL of their useres couldn't get connected because of something on Hawk's computers.
Also be sure to get rid of the AOL or Compu$erve software. They use proprietary modem and network components that conflict with Windows' modem and network components. Hawk is a direct connection to the Internet, meaning it relies on Windows to provide the networking and modem stuff. If something's overriding it, you're going to have problems.

Title: Joi Internet
CMarie Guest
I have tried so many of the cheap and free ISPs, I absolutely refuse to pay more than $10 a month for internet access when the Big Guys give it away free oversees! I have been using JOI internet now for a little under a month. It seems to be wonderful. No problems at all. I live in Chicago and the truest test of a quality internet is "Can you get online on a Friday night anytime after 7 pm.?" I have every single time I tried to sign on. I have not once received an error or busy signal. So far I am happy with it. Contacted Support twice for general questions, got immediate responses to my emails. I would say, try it, if it works for you then you have gotten lucky! If not, there are so many others out there looking for the business.

Title: JOIMAIL internet service
anonymous Guest
I started with joiinternet a few months ago because I left JUNO after being with them for several years. It became aggravating because I kept getting kicked offline. I had the $4.95 a month service, and when they offered their $9.95 service it sounded as though it was a better service. I didn't get any better service and was paying twice my original price. I left them and went with JOIMAIL because I can't afford a more expensive internet service. I am also not on the internet very often. I thought joi would be good, but I'm changing now because I keep getting porn letters and I have never been to a porn site. I'm really disgusted because my grandchildren also use my computer

Title: Downgraded service
Green_Man Guest
Myjoi is the same company as Hawk communications. I've been using Hawk for a year and a half. I had no problems the first year so I renewed for a second year. Shortly after my renewal they "improved" their server (around June '02). Ever since then, I have had major problems with disconnects and to add insult to injury they instituted a policy of a 5k limit on my mailbox which was never there before. Tech support said it was always limited but it says nothing about this on their website and I KNOW I was able to let my mail back up before while I was on vacation so I would have 8-900 e-mails waiting for me on my return. I am currently looking for a new ISP and I intend to cancel my Hawk account as soon as I find one. If you don't want your e-mail bouncing all over creation I recommend you don't use Hawk.

Title: GOOD ISP, easy signup.
Jon in Tucson, Arizona Guest
I researched low cost ISP's for about 10 hours before I signed up with JOI. The primary reason I joined was because of their v.92 protocol on one of my local access numbers. This is important to me because of it's "modem on hold" capability. The signup process was simple and efficient (but make sure you write down on paper everything during this process) and before I could get to the email page my account was already up and working. It was a breeze to sign into the email system. By the time I could create a new Dial Up account it was already set up and working also. No ISP is perfect, but THIS surely beats the $17.95 I was paying to a local company for Internet service. My very next phone call is to my former ISP telling them to drop dead. And the time to connect to the internet now is about half of what with my former ISP. Genuinely, I can say I'm sure not disappointed thus far with Joi as my new ISP. Of course, it's a good idea for anyone to keep NetZero on their own computer just as a backup because not even Joi runs at peak performance 100% of the time. So to give Joi the benenfit of doubt from time to time when they need to do some maintenance I'd recommend a backup ISP for everyone.

Title: Title Bar name
Jon in Tucson, Arizona Guest
I don''t worry about Internet Explorer''s branded Title Bar because I use the Networker browser. I doesn''t have all those bad habits that are inherent with IE. Best of all, when Networker is closed it releases all it''s dll''s and other resources that with IE would end up choking the system to a virtual snail''s pace. I''ve tried every browser I can find and BY FAR the Networker browser is the fastest and most stable and user friendly with all the functions I need for 8 hours a day on the internet.

Title: don't download
John Stuckey Guest
if you sign up with these guys, don't download and install the program. I rarely ever use the internet at home, mainly on dsl at work, so seeing "Joi Internet" instead of "Internet Explorer" in the title bar of IE windows really "ticked" me off. Who knows what else that program changes (besides the default home page, that is). Not only that, but it's vertually impossible to uninstall. As well, the program doesn't include all the access number that it should, making it useless anyway.
Instead, use the windows dialup networking. That's a much, much better idea.

i am a freedomlist too Guest
they claimed to be an patial v.92 ISP which is very rare due to the cost of upgrading.
If they really support v.92 I will have a try next month.
Please give me some special comments on their fake or real V.92 numbers at
I am going to be really appreciate your comments about the isp!

Title: Telephone Suuport
joe Guest
It is Hawk Communations direct vs A4L reselling Hawk Communications service . You get telephone support which to me is worth paying a little more for but I don't like having to prepay 1 yr to get the "deal" vs month to month for A4L . BTW, the A4L physical address is a mail drop .
