With your ISP can you use incredimail with it? Do you also have area code 239 as one of your area codes to use for Flordia?
Thanks

Title: So how is mailaka?
|
|
Quack the Duck Guest
I've been with them for about 3 months now, and the service has been great. Lots of access numbers, but I've only needed to use a couple since they have very rarely been busy or down. Dropoffs have also been very rare - especially since I switched from a v90 to a v92 modem. Much better than Netzero and Juno, and you don't have to put up with their ads or "convenient" toolbars taking up your screen.

Absolutely, but I am biased. Our servie is excellent along with being one third less expensive. We have more access numbers. We have much better support and our connectivity is fantastic.
Give us a try. I know you will love us.

houstonian Guest
yes, I pointed out in the post that you replied to that "for a fee, yahoo will let you use POP3". They use to be free, but stopped the free POP3 access quite a while back.
There are several free POP3 email services out there, I won't advertise them here, but you can find them with a google or altavista search.

Title: 3 months, so far, so good

houstonian Guest
hehe, well, I use windoze when I absolutely have to, I do a lot of internet stuff in DOS and Linux. Btw, all you netzero'ers and juno'ers are stuck with whingedoze because you have to use their proprietary software. I won't go into an anti-windoze rant, but I feel sorry that anyone would limit there horizons by using a service that only let's them use what they are told they can use.
Mailaka has a true ppp connection and pop3 mail so you can use ANY operating system and minimal computer hardware if you so choose. Too many perfectly good computers end up in the landfills, but that is another forum.
I've been with mailaka for about 3 months now, I signed up when they had the $5.95 special and things are overall pretty good with only an occaisonal bump in the road. Sometimes I will lose connection for no apparent reason but I'm able to reconnect right away, so I can live with it, for the price, I'm a happy camper :)

if you do get this ISP, add ports UDP ports 137,138,139 to your firewall.
for some reason, the dns server they use runs netstat between 20 seconds to ten minutes, there's no real reason to do this, if it's intentional that's bad news, if it's just accidental, well, they need to hire someone who knows how to properly configure BSD.

that is debateable -- I have a 56k modem w/win98(updated) and i get 45.k and 50 k I was getting 53k BUT, if I took the same line and connected to my "NEW Sony with a 56 k (luciant) I would get 12,18, 20 ,26, 28.8, and several 40 k .if I looked for my Email or on the net it would not find the page.
I put in another 56 k and it gets on at 48-52k. Same phone line. . I wont be back to see this , I am just browsing

I always want to know what our customers and potential customers are saying. That is why I review bulletin boards on an almost daily basis.
Unfortunately, we do not have any plans to offer the $5.95 again.

You are correct. It is basically compression and it does not workon streaming video. You are also correct in your (assumption?) that Mailaka and Netzero, among others use the same software, not just the same type, but the same.

We always check all of our software for viruses and worms. The software we sent you does not have a virus or a worm. Chances are you downloaded something else that had the worm you got.

I agree these *faster dialup* softwares are just doing compression on both ends.
BTW POP access of yahoo is not free anymore. I think now they are charging $10/year.

Title: Faster access
|
|
Rhoniel Guest
I think these new so called 'high speed dialup' software from Netzero, Malaika and such may be using compression on both ends. I mean they are compressing the data on fly before sending it to you through modem, and their softare is decompressing the data after receiving it. They cannot speedup streaming media because its already compressed. Just a guess, I cannot prove it though.

Title: I'm Impressed
|
|
SurfingforanISP Guest
Just wanted to say how impressed I am that the President of Mailaka responds to the freedomlist comments. I make my living by purchasing server hardware and fast and reliable vendor response to problems is important. I've been searching the web for ISPs for several days as my Compuseve account expires in a few days. Mailaka seems like it would be the right ISP to go with. I just wish it would make the $5.95/month offer available again.
