Run like hell. I signed up, got charged, and was never able even ONCE to connect to the Internet. 6 weeks and countless hours of phone calls got me a refund on the $6.50 for service I never got, but they refused to refund my setup fee - they set you up with an account that doesn't work and charge you for it.

I've been a customer for about a year and haven't had any serious problems.
Yes having to call and get a temporary account if you go over 200 hours in a month is a pain.
But I've used it from several POP's in PA, DE and VA with no difficulty.
I don't, however, use their eMail. I have separate accounts with runbox and yahoo! for that.

Try speaking to them they are in India and if they think your done they hang up on you. When will business learn you turn people off when you can not people to understand you very frustrating.

Happy Camper Guest
Over all 650 is a great isp. Yes there reps are mostly foreign and I even asked if support was in India and was assured by an English speaking supervisor they were not. I downloaded Net Rocket and the pages load about as fast as DSL I mean I click there on it's pure amazing. You just have to not call on the weekends and keep calling back if you get a foreigner and they can't help get someone who can. Man other than there reps this is a great isp.

Title: poor customer service
|
|
ktz Guest
Since I live in an area that allows only dial-up for me and having had bad luck with a couple other ISP's I decided to try this cheaper service. I called on the phone and set it up with a live person. It was difficult but finally got it done. Then it didn't work. First it kept telling me the user name was invalid on the domain, etc. I called back and spoke to another rep. She had me change several things on my pc and I then tried it. It worked but I kept getting disconnected. I called again the next day and got another person. She was extremely rude and kept trying to rush me and get me off the line. After insisting that I was the customer she shut up and helped me. I again connected and it cut me off again. I called back and again got another person. This time a man who was even ruder and even hung up on me. I called back and finally got a man who was knowledgable and helped a lot. I am now able to connect without getting disconnected. I insisted that a supervisor call me back. I reported the rude and bad conduct of all the reps except the last man. I told the supervisor he was good. The trouble is that 650dialup has hired a whole lot of foreigners (which all of these were) who are difficult to understand and unwilling to help. I only signed up for one month at a time so I will see how it goes. Warning: if you want to try this company be prepared to sit on hold on the phone a long time and then have the stomach for the rudeness you will encounter. Also be sure you stand your ground and ask for a supervisor if nessessary.

Title: 650 dial up
|
|
dmengusa Guest
I too had all the troubles you name. I have over 35 emails to 650 dial up that have never been answered. I called on the phone and after 45 minutes on hold I hung up. I called the next day and was on hold 10 minutes told to leave a message and never heard from them.
If you have problems with the sending of emails you need to check your anti-virus program. If it is webtrapping the emails then they will never get out.
All of the ISP's are going with the new anti-spam and anti-virus software. What this means is that only short personal emails will get through all other emails that also include an unsubscribe will be deleted and you will never see any. If they keep this up the internet mail will be dead. I used to get 50 emails a day now I can only receive 5 all the rest are automatically deleted or returned to sender.
Wish there was hope for all this but the internet is dying and we will all have to go to the new cell-phone text messaging. I smell a conspiracy here.

I have been refering for them and had to call in each time to get credit! I subscribed for a year so when I travel I can get on line and so far that has worked good. I don't think much of there Mail, service & support and hardly ever get an answer to E-Mail's on questions about the service. (Bummer) I need dependable service and 650 keeps knocking me off-line !

Title: So far, not too bad

Connection speed is decent. Connecting at 46.6. Having some problems Sending (SMTP) mail. Pop works well (receiving). For 6.50 per month, you can't beat it! Granted, they do have problems, but for the cheap price, I'll stay with them until they fix the bugs.
They do, however, charge .05 per call to access the local server. That's fine with me, being that I access the account once a day. 1.50 additional isn't bad.
In the long run, it's not a bad deal!

Title: 650dialup works for me
|
|
Mark Guest
On the whole I've had good luck with 650 dialup.
I tried the 24-hour trial but couldn't get logged on. After two calls to technical support, I finally got the info that the user ID they told me (call it "XYZ") was actually ("XYZ@650dialup.com"). I wish they'd told me that to begin with.
But with that correction, everything worked fine. The conection seemed pretty clean--I was only disconnected once or twice in 5 or 6 hours on being online.
I went ahead and signed up for their service. I paid for 6 months in advance and got an extra month free. They wouldn't waive the setup fee but did give me another free month. So I got 8 months total for my 47 bucks.
I will say that getting this all set up took some time. Don't call on the weekends--I never could get a person. And they never called me back when I left a message. Call during the week--the wait was hardly even a minute.

Title: Our experience w/650
|
|
Traveler Guest
650 might be a good provider for those who do not travel, however we found that as we traveled, we had to call in to tech support in each city to be "authorized" to use our account from that city/phone number! As we would go from city to city, we had to call in each time we needed a new access number, and of course, one final time when we got home again.
Overall the service was good, and if we didn't travel so much, we would probably have stayed with 650.

Title: more on e-mail

650Dialup support e-mailed me (yesterday, I think) with the news that they were upgrading their mail service, and it should now be reliable. I don't have the note on this machine, but I'll post it later.

Doing a "test drive" with 650 Dialup. They gave me TWO weeks free! To do this, I merely went to their site and "spoke" with a rep on-line, and asked about the "24 hour trial." She said, "How about two weeks?" Went for it. So far, so good. The connection speed is eratic. Connecting between 36-47 bps. Was bumped-off once.
I am getting my mail from other accounts transferred well, unlike other ISPs. For 6.50/mo., you can't beat it! I'll see if I feel the same in about a week or so!
