Unfortunately Newsguy's ISP price has increased.
Now: $12.95 per month or $99.95 per year ($8.33/mo.)

I re-upped nevertheless.
Solid service. Responsive to issues / queries.

Been with Newsguy.com for 5 months.
(I migrated from Stowetel to Dialup.cc, and now to Newsguy).
Being quite satisfied with the stability and connection speeds, I opted for the annual account ($79.95 = $6.66 / month).
Good deal.
I would recommend them.

Time for a new ISP, so I decided to check out Newsguy.com.
I figured that their being a premier usenet service, they should offer stability with sufficient server resources.
My first test to evaluate them was to try to contact them, to find out how they rate with respect to support (to see if “anybody is home”).
My email with a simple query was unanswered for 48 hours, but then I received a response from their challenge/response spam filtering system, to which I responded.
Within hours I received a courteous response with succinct answers to my questions.
I thanked them for their rapid response.
They replied again almost immediately with the “if you have any questions please do not hesitate....” and supplied their support email address as well as phone no.
So far so good.
Decided to take the plunge.
Signup was followed in an hour or two with an email containing all pertinent acct. info.
Login was troublefree. Speeds comparable with other ISPs with lots of local no.s.
What they offer:
Unlimited HighSpeed Internet Access
50 MB Website
5 (Spam Hippo Protected) Mailboxes
Usenet Newsgroups

$9.95/mo is not a great bargain, but they also offer:
$6.66/mo. ($79.95/yr). Not bad.

Their Spam Hippo Webmail interface leaves something to be desired, but I use my email client, so it's of no big concern.
Their “HiSpeed” requires software download, so “no thank you”.

Overall, I give Newsguy.com a thumbs-up.

So far, the service has been great.

Sign-up was simple and gave immediate access. I've e-mailed tech-support a couple time (they're available 7 days a week during business hours) and the reply was prompt and informative.

Their main business is Newsgroups, which I don't really use... but if someone was looking for that feature, this seems to be a great place for it. You can even browse newsgroups through their website, in your browser.

The access is unlimited in total hours, but I think I did get an 8 hour disconnect once...

The connection speed varies... sometimes I connect at 36000, but lately it's been 45000. The connection seems stable anyway, and they offer a free Slipstream-powered accelerator at no charge... I finally tried it out and was impressed by how much faster pages with lots of text load (such as these forums). I have it set to download images at the original quality though, since I don't like having image quality reduced.

The accelerator comes with what looks like a very effective popup stopper built in as well (it even stops the "web page dialog" popups that Google Toolbar misses), however, I ended up disabling it, because I can't get it to play a sound when it blocks something... so I don't always know when it blocks something I wanted to see. There is an option to beep the PC speaker when it blocks a popup, but it didn't seem to work for me.... It does log all the popups it blocks, and it is configurable with a white list...

You get 2 e-mail addresses, each with 25 meg of storage. The e-mail has worked flawlessly for me...
There is Spam Hippo software, which is user-configurable, for blocking junk mail.

You get 50 meg of webspace which supports features like PHP, MySql, FrontPage.... However, that space is divided up so that you can use "30 meg for web page storage, and 20 meg for PHP and MySQL..."

For $9.95 a month, this seems to be a good deal, and the company seems reliable, with an actual tech-support department that knows what they're doing.

I have been using this service for two days now with great results. I initially had a problem with the system not recognizing my pw, so I called support and got immediate, I mean immediate help. Turns out that your username needs to include the name of the service without the .com.........i.e. dufus@newsguy who would have guessed. Anyway, I have dailed up at least 15 times in two days and always got good, fast, connections and no drops.

I use a cable modem at home, but this has turned out to be a great connection for my office.

Add in the newsgroups, usually the weakest part of most ISP offerings and this service looks like a winner.

All for less than ten bucks a month.
