Title: i'm patient, but not a glutton for abuse
|
Today was 5 business days since I submitted my request for the email account, and still nothing. Rather than to email them again, I went directly to the phone. Last time, I gave him the benefit of a doubt and thought maybe he was just a lazy employee or young family member. It was the same guy this time, and I'm 99.9% positive this is the owner.
He gave me the same non-responsive answer, that it takes 2-4 business days to add an email account. I asked him, "What happens after 5 days?". He actually looked for the order this time and said that he didn't receive anything. Then he said that it would be "kicked out" if I chose 3 addresses that were already used. (One English and 2 Spanish? What are the odds?). Since he didn't seem to be helping much, I asked him if he could take the info over the phone and take care of it. No way...it's automated and the computer has to do it in 2-4 business days. Being a retired software engineer and web programmer, I began to question his con game. If it's automated, then it should be done in about 10 minutes, right? He gave me some routine about so many customers, ...requests, ...work backed up, ...yada, yada, then started the yelling, verbal abuse, and suggestion to find another ISP.
No problem, dude. There are plenty out there who provide service, and an email account, with a smile.

Recently signed up with SysMatrix on the $6.95 deal. Using the on-line sign up form, they had me up and running within minutes, and connection with my Linux system was no problem. So far, the up-time has been impeccable. Then, I tried to add an extra email account. Waited a full 24 hours+ after sending the form. Sent an email to see if they received the form. Half a day later and still no response. Called their toll-free technical assistance and was informed that it would take 2 to 4 working days to set that up. Gee, why don't I just drive there and do it myself and drive back again? It would be faster. I get the impression that this is a mom and pop operation and maybe the lazy teen-aged son answers the phone.

All I can say is I have used Sysmatrix for approx. a year and I have no complaints. There was one issue happening where I could not connect, sent an email using hubbys work pc and got an answer within 5 minutes. It was a issue with my computer, they told me how to fix it and Wala....all is well again. I was lucky to get it at a lower cost and am pleased.

They say their hours of support are 7 am to midnight but they must not check their email during that time. Or maybe their own accounts are down. Before deciding to sign-up I emailed with a couple of questions. No response either. For $8.95 I can recommend ISP.com which I've found to be a good service in the 2 years I've had them. Connections are good and customer support is as well. I get the impression Sysmatrix is a small "mom and "pop" family business without the support.

Title: speed drop dramatically

Since then the connection speed (both modem & download) drop. I used to connect modem speed between 48-52 Kbps and now 45.2 Kbps-50.6 Kbps. Download speed is suffer the most, being able to download @ 5.0 Kbps, now is only 2.5-3.0 Kbps. Some website won't load properly without clicking refreshing button. I'll keep checking the next few week whether they change the backbone again.

PANCNY Guest
I have just sent a cancellation request to Sysmatrix due to the following: I have been unable to access my email for weeks, and repeatedly get a web page error message that says I must be logged on to access my email. The page directs me to the log on page. I log on. I get the same error message, over and over and over again. I wrote them 3-4 times -- NO ANSWER!!! I have not been able to read my email in nearly a month. NO replies from my repeated requests for help!!!! I am running to my bank in the morning to make sure it does not honor the charges from sysmatrix for service I cannot use!!! How DARE these people ignore me like this. Subject: New Access Numbers
11/16/2005
Due to issues with our backbone network carrier we have been
in the process of moving to a new carrier to improve the ability
of our customers to connect. Some time this morning our primary
carrier began causing "Invalid Username/Password" errors for
most of our customers.
At this time we have REMOVED all of the primary carrier access numbers
from our dial up access list. We ask that all customers please check
the ACCESS NUMBER SEARCH PAGE
(http://www.sysmatrix.net/cgi-bin/access_numbers.cgi)
and change your dial up acces number to the one you find there for your local area.
If you cannot find a local access number on the current list please call
our support number (1-866-385-2121) and we will check to see if there is
a local number for you that has not yet been added.
We understand this is going to cause some difficulty for those customers who
do not see this notice until they are in a position that they need to connect and
do not have one of the new numbers already available. We are sending this notice
out via email so that those customers who read their email from work or school
will hopefully be made aware before getting home and trying to connect using
the old network.
The failure of the primary network today was beyond our control. It should
become active again when the problem is resolved so that our customers have
time to see this notice and switch to the new numbers. We will continue to add
new numbers to the current list as they are activated so be sure to check the
list occasionally.
We will update the downloadable .csv file of numbers as soon as possible. Please
do not download/use that list until you see a new "Updated" date on the download
page.
Thank you for your patience in this matter.

I complained previously that several of their connections didn't work. Well, I found out after several months that they changed most of their dial up numbers. They didn't respond to an email questioning their dial up numbers previously, which bothers me, but I just tried one of the new numbers, and it is ROCK solid, which is unusual in the boonies.
sorta recommended

Yes I recommend them. Uptime is near perfect. You can phone them anytime but Sundays & holidays toll-free. Plenty of access #s, even in littler places, and now I'm getting to the good stuff. They supply you not five MB but TWENTY-FIVE MB web space... and that's an enormous boon. Five doesn't store much nowadays. And if you need another email adr, it's yours, period. Um, even after 3 or 4 yrs patronage, I say it's okay to invest there.

Ex Hawk customer here (no Earthlink for me!). I remember coming across these guys a few years ago searching for an ISP, but then wound up with Hawk for whatever reason. One of the many reasons for choosing these guys was they had two numbers in a little beach town in Florida I go to often.
I signed up with SysMatrix.Net Friday afternoon - used a promotion for 6.95/month with no setup fee. I signed up with my credit card, got my confirmation via e-mail and was up and running within 10 minutes. Immediately went to their site to add my wife's email address and had it within five minutes. There are a TON of numbers in the Birmingham metro area. I connect at 52k every time, but I'm surrounded with relatively new phone lines.
My speed may be just a tick slower than what I had with Hawk. I was ready to write good things about a couple of the other major reasons I chose these guys - 30 minute idle timeout and 8 hour session limits - but ironically I JUST GOT CUT OFF then quickly dialed back in. Not sure what that was... it didn't take me 30 minutes to think and type this but I won't pass judgement just yet.
I'll update in a couple weeks and see how it goes. Too bad about Hawk, I was happy with them.

Real Nice Small Town Crooks. I signed up in Dec 2004. Credit card payment was required prior to setting up an account. The automatic payment and account set up worked, but the account was never activated. I e-mail on three seperate occassions, called once (answering machine). By the end of the third day I e-mailed and requested to cancel the account and be refunded. I was charged for one month of service that I never received.

Problematic, but I'm staying for now. Of the 7 dial up numbers in my area, 4 are basically non-functioning, 1 is so-so, but the last 2 are rock solid WHEN you can get on. They have periods when they say I am connectd, but it will not download any URL. Try again in a half hour, and it's rock solid again for the rest of the evening. Good enough for now.

Title: 180 degree reversal!

Pay close attention: Sysmatrix has *FINALLY* and forever succeeded in identifying and correcting the pervasive user authentication snags that was plaguing their service for over two months. I'm not lying, and no one is paying me to make this avowal! I recind my earlier denouncement, and whole-heartedly back Sysmatrix as a worthy ISP. I'm sticking with them as a customer after all.

'Sorry to be so wordy but I want to make sure I don't berate anyone falsely. I take back what I said about Sysmatrix' PERVASIVE connection difficulties in the last 2-3 months being the fault of UUnet. I signed up with a different provider, isp-isp-com, and one of THEIR access numbers employs UUnet as well -- the VERY SAME local number here that I dialed for Sysmatrix -- and yet my connections to isp-isp are utterly fast and reliable every time. So the fault is likely with Sysmatrix after all. I've been patient, but 75 days of pervasive difficulties, without resolution, is more than I can stomach. I recommend isp-isp.com -- they're GREAT!!

Title: Hope expired
|
|
Connection difficulties and failures continue and *some* of the Sysmatrix staff are back to peddling that tiresome old lie: "re-enter your username and password and reboot and retry, because there's a capricious bug in Windows". Well I've been danged patient, but I can't abide this perfidy much longer. I'm sure to abandon ship anon, barring a miracle. There's no bug in Windows -- the 'bug' lies squarely within SYSMATRIX!

Title: Hope continues
|
At Sysmatrix, they're well aware of the UUnet problems and are no longer peddling that "bug in Windows" excuse. Maybe -- and I'm hopeful -- just maybe, their service will someday soon return to its previous *PERFECTION*. They continue to be very courteous, patient and helpful. I'm sticking with.
Hey! plenty of other alternative ISPs employ UUnet as well, so there's probably no point being anxious to go elsewhere.

Title: Sysmatrix thumbs up; UUNet thumbs down
|
Sysmatrix was *PERFECTION* for ten straight months! But in the last 2 months there've been lots and lots of problems connecting. I've learned this is due to problems with one of their intermediate signal carrier, UUNet. UUNet is on a total self-destruct path. Connections are slow or impossible, long outages, frequent and pervasive difficulties of late. A Sysmatrix tech rep told me that UUNet contract won't be renewed -- but that might be years away, not sure. So unless Sysmatrix can pipe you through one of their other carriers, which in my local dialing area they cannot as yet do, I no longer recommend this ISP.
Really though, they're fine people, always courteous and bright... my compliments. But I didn't like their frequent claims that my connection difficulties were somehow due to a capricious "bug in Windows", necessitating that I should have to "reenter my username and password, and/or reboot" -- UTTER NONSENSE! and it never helped one single bit.
