Hi, y'all!

I switched from dialup.cc about 5 months ago and have been satisfied with the service. But the one thing that bugs me is the long delay between the time my modem completes connection with Totalspeed and the time I can actually access any site. That delay is usually about a minute. Other than that, they are an excellent ISP.

I would like to clarify why I stopped using Totalspeed and went with Dialup.cc. After using Totalspeed for a few months I began to have more problems connecting, and had slower speeds on many of my connections, so I canceled Totalspeed, and tried some free trial dialups. I had the same erratic problems. Later I found that my modem was the problem. The problem was not with Totalspeed like I had first thought. By then I had started trying Dialup.cc and have stayed with them. However, Totalspeed would be a good alternative to try for someone looking for an inexpensive ISP offering good service and good customer care, and up to 300 hours a month. Thumb Up Thumb Up

** Limited to 300 hours per month with a fee of $1.00 per hour over the 300 hours. Unused hours do not carry over to the next month. (300 hours is roughly 10 hours a day)

*** Limited tech support after initial setup with unlimited email support only. Optional paid phone support at $1.00 per incident.
One thing that bothered me when I was a customer of TotalSpeed was the previous policy of "** Limited to 300 hours per month with a fee of $1.00 per hour over the 300 hours. Unused hours do not carry over to the next month. (300 hours is roughly 10 hours a day)" because I was a high user back then. However their policy has changed since then. I just received an answer from TotalSpeed stating: " We turn off the account when it reaches 300 hours. There are no overage fees." This is good news. With this policy, TotalSpeed is an exellent choice for those looking for a new ISP. I too don`t understand why TotalSpeed is overlooked so much. It is a good service with good customer support. At $5.95 a month for up to 300 hours with the first month free is a real bargain for a quality service like theirs.  http://www.totalspeed.net

I've had TotalSpeed for about 2 years. Nearly 100% up time and as fast as any other.

Since I have to have dialup, (cable is unreliable here these days) I'm a new TotalSpeed customer and very happy with it. I first heard of TotalSpeed in this forum when doing a search for free or cheap ISPs. Most of the posts seemed to be positive, compared to other posts for other ISPs throughout. That's why I'm leaving my opinion.

I had AOL for over a decade then went to cable and cancelled. Still needed backup when cable wasnt working so I tried Earthlink for ISP and cancelled it before its 3 mo trial was up. Totalspeed has a stable connection unlike Earthlink. I particularly liked not needing to download software, not being given yet another email account and not given another anti-virus software, and, to sign on a friend for a free month to me all they have to do is call. I am on Windows Vista Home edition, for those who are looking for Vista compatibility info, and I've had no problems with TS & WV.

Yes, add me to the satisfied customer of TotalSpeed list. I am going to pay a year in advance when renew time comes up.

Here's an email I just sent them.

Hello,

I've got a technical support problem. I am in the general Seattle area. From the first day (two months ago) that I started with this ISP service, every local phone number I've tried (Seattle, Renton, Maple Valley, Kent, Auburn) pauses about once a minute for around 10-20 seconds (or more). If I download a file or update from anybody (or just pointing and clicking on web sites), it just goes dead for the above specified times constantly and consistently. After the pause, the stream starts up again, however some downloads or updates have to be started over. This happens every time I've been online (no exceptions).

There is a free service called Nocharge.com that works far better than this paid ISP. I don't know how much longer I can keep this service.

Yes, I should have wrote sooner.

Any thoughts?

Thank You

Hi there everybody,
I've been a customer of TotalSpeed Internet dial-up ISP for a little over 4 years and I'm a happy camper with their service. I'm using their "TotalSpeed" plan service with 1 mail (10MB) account. Their web mail is POP3 and their SMTP/server info is available on their home site to integrate with your favorite desktop mail program ( i.e. Outlook Express, Eudora, Pimmy, I-Scribe, nPop, etc.).
Initial setup is easy and simple with a 30 day "try before you buy" peroid. No contract except for the 300hr/mo. limited account. Pay by plastic money, EFT, check, money order.
Yes, there MAY be momentary drops during 8 consecutive hour connections but then again I don't want to to anything that feels good for 8 consecutive hours at a time either. Just my little personal quirk.
Customer service and tech support are excelent. In 4 years we've had to phone tech support( in Colorado) maybe twice and always on Sunday night. After leaving messages, we got somebody calling back within an hour or less. Very polite, respectful folks.
Their service is to 43 states in U.S. but not in all locales so check on their web site for local access #s. Some offices offer a couple flavors of broadband DSL or ISDN/ T-1/T-3 for businesses.
Totoal Speed Communications is not a perfect ISP but for my purposes it just plain works and works well.

Cool

Since losing Access4Less to Earthlink, I've been very happy with TotalSpeed. No complaints, just compliments! I'm surprised that more dialup users haven't signed up as indicated by the number of comments--just 12 at this writing.

They are here:
 http://www.totalspeed.net/access.htm#WESTVIRGINIA

The ISPs mentioned for a state have access numbers for that state. There is no guarantee on any listing that you will have local numbers for you. The only guarantee is that there ARE some access numbers in that state.

Anyone have any info about TotalSpeed`s idle-time disconnects using their 56k dialup $5.95 account? Can one stay connected for up to 8 hours without anykind of disconnect? I`m usually on for about 2 hours at a time, but need not to be disconnected while I am on. I`m seldom idle, but have been getting some random, fairly frequent, disconnects lately with another ISP that has become annoying.

I've been using it a week with no disconnects, although I'm usually not on more than 4 or 5 hours at a time. If you sign-up online your first month is supposed to be free or you can cancel within 20 days with no charges at all. The news server's retention time is around 12 or 13 days. This is one thing that could be improved, but not bad for the price.

This isp does not offer pop mail. Does this mean that my Gmail account will not work on their isp?

Connection speeds vary on location. Depends on if your ISPs top level provider has updated equipment, and then also on your side, if you have updated phone lines in your house all the way to the telco with no major distortions.
