Title: eircom.net

corkonian Guest
I use Outlook Express for Mac & (reluctantly) Internet Explorer. I have very little trouble & have found their helpline very friendly & helpful. they have been invaluable at times. Friends trying other 'free' services have ended up of the net altogether for indefinite periods. Despite tempting offers I am sticking with eircom.

Title: Dreadful ISP
|
|
emptytime Guest
€ircom are a dreadful company. Terrible, over priced service, terible support. They are without a doubt the cause of Ireland still living in the broadband darkages. They stiffe competition and refse to allow competitors to use their lines even though they are legally obliged to. Steer clear of them. Nothin but a bunch of useles money grabbing, greedy fat men in suits.

Why not provide the actual set-up info on these pages, for those who can't download set-up files?

Title: 1892!
|
|
A wary user Guest
1892 is not a premium number... it is charged at local rates... this is a change to ALL internet dial-ups reccommended by the telecoms regulator.
Check your info before you publish it!

Title: Eircom email ***!
|
|
personinBostonUSA Guest
My friend using eircom.net cannot send emails to me under any email address I have. I can only send to him. Tech support at eircom could care less about fixing this; its an smtp problem and they will not help even though I've offered money to pay.

Title: Eircom Web Space
|
|
Tekkie Guest
Pleased with Eircom, except for their free web space. Cannot connect using http://upload.eircom.net or Cute FTP. Anytime we want to change anything, have to phone Tech Support, some of whom don't have a clue what's going on. Only solution it to email files to be uploaded by obliging Tech Support people - there are a few !

This shouldn't be listed here as Eircom have deviously channeled free access through a 1 892 premium rate number. Wait Until you see your phone Bill !!!!!!

Title: Eircom web access
|
|
Martin Nitram Guest
I agree... Eircoms dial up access is OK, their webspace
and tech support is abysmal.
Why advertise free websape when it simply doesn''t work!
If you set up new webspace from a new eircom.net free
account., it is possible to get access to their
upload.eircom.net system and view your default
index.html file but can you change this, upload new
pages or create directories?? NO. The same is true for
ftp access to your homepage.
Another note, you must access your upload area while
dialled into eircom as your ISP otherwise you will not
even get to the directory listing above.... all very
useless really!
Signed
Another disgruntled customer.

Title: Eircom on, make the effort
|
|
Hugh Hicks Guest
For ease of connection to the web Eircom is much more reliable than other Irish ISP'S. In almost a year as a subscriber to Eircoms free service I have never, repeat never had a problem logging on to the net although connection speeds do tend to vary. The E-mail service although fairly basic in operation is at least reliable and easy to use.
Big let down on the web space side of things though. 20mb of free web space is available to eircom subscribers but for beginners to web publishing the service seems to be very unreliable and confusing. System would not accept ny username/password. Two calls to technical support @58p per minute and even a change of password and I still can't access my site.
For day to day use ie web surfing, E-mails the service is very good but the web space side of the operation is very annoying and will put a lot of people off contributing to this revolution in communication. 5 out 0f 10
